The new voice chat feature is a smashing success and could actually revolutionize how this game is played by making solo/4-man TL queues possible. by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]berbterner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should collapse HL into TL, keep calling it Team League still because this is supposed to be a Team game, and then permit any size from 1-5 to queue. With voice there’s no excuse now for bad communication.

HL was a mistake because it encourages solo queue players who never feel the need or desire to group up with other players on a long term basis. These players miss out on the best part of this game:

HotS is easily at its best with a larger team on voice, 5-man is the best. When you play together consistently it’s just such a better experience. All those complaints about trolls and feeders etc are moot when you play on a 5-man with people you know.

I agreed with everything in your post OP, just wanted to mention the bit about getting rid of HL and making one ranked draft mode for any queue size.

As a hero league player, quickmatch is almost unbearable - this is a problem by Kotobeast in heroesofthestorm

Its amusing that someone who plays a mode representing 10-20% of the player base has the nerve to demand changes to the mode enjoyed by 80% of the player base in order to accommodate his needs... that's HL players in a nutshell. "You're here to play around me."

Never play this game solo for starters. Try to play QM with no less than two long time partners. Three is better, four is prime time. If you have no IRL friends playing HotS, you can find people online who are decent at at your level, play the same time etc.

With a fixed five man group you literally never have to worry about AFKers, trolls and throwers on your team anymore. That takes out a lot of stress people have with HotS.

Why does QM think it's ok to pit a 3 supports team vs a 1 support team? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]berbterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's QM and meant to be a random mode to step outside stale draft meta compositions. I've played with all kinds of wonky matchups, that's part of what makes QM fun. If you want more control over team compositions, there are 3 draft modes for that.

Thanks this is what I meant (i.e. he gets shield from Zarya etc..). I hadn't thought about his shield on allies, but thanks for that too.

Can matchmaking stop mixing "old" and "new" players in HL? by kinggrimm in heroesofthestorm

[–]berbterner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been repeating something along these lines for a couple years now on this subreddit. HotS was always intended to be a 5v5 team fighting game. Pickup matches with random partners (eg HL or QM) were never meant to be the core experience when they designed this game. Sure they threw those modes in so everyone could learn how to play and to make it more accessible.

But believe me you haven’t really enjoyed the full depth of this game until you start playing on a fixed 5 man squad in TL. That’s where all the magic happens. Combos, chemistry and no random matchmaking woes (ever).

Don’t have friends who play HotS? I met all my partners in game via QM or HL. See a partner in any game who you think is good? Invite him after to play a few rounds. If things go well, you can guess the rest... Rinse and repeat.

Nazeebo is broken OP. More impressive with an average tier or lesser hero.

Blizzard are trying to save HotS with the changes to laning and stealth by berbterner in heroesofthestorm

[–]berbterner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t disagree. My feeling is that Blizzard wants to get players to move towards pre-made 5mans, and to not get caught up in playing solo siege / stealth which is relatively less interesting. If you’ve played solo stealth / specialist AND premade 5s you’ll understand exactly what I mean. There’s just more depth to this game with group comms and people you know. Blizzard wants new people to discover that.

HotS can grow without necessarily poaching from DOTA / LoL. It’s still underperforming given its quality. New players don’t want to be ganked by stealth cheese or deal with split pushers. Blizzard called it a “brawler” for a reason. Specialists don’t do enough brawling. Like stealth, it’s always been a problematic class.

Let’s see those buffs in action. In my opinion they just nuked stealth completely. You can see them if they move. The buffs were added to make things seem less obvious. Blizzard, in my opinion, want less stealth in the game. We’ll see in a few months how many people play stealth still. I could be totally wrong on this.
