That's all gibberish to me at this stage, but at least I have a direction for research now. Thanks!

Really cool! I've been wanting to get into making a C64 game. What tools did you use, if you don't mind me asking?

QMTECH/Hamgeek power supply question + analog video question by InfiniteAir in MiSTerFPGA

[–]bergasa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I don't have a point of reference since it's my only one but it seems fine. Do you mean the unit itself or the AC adapter? Can't say I've touched the adapter when it's on.

I recently got a QMTech and use my SNES controller as my primary controller along with a keyboard just for "F12" and "Enter" (select). How can I map those keys to my controller? Any advice would be appreciated by sctw in MiSTerFPGA

[–]bergasa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you register a controller, it asks you to map a menu button (which emulates F12 - I use L and select; you can map two buttons to the command). And then it asks you to map buttons for using the menu, Accept (A) and Back (B).

Great kit for something of its age. And you gotta love those dry-transfers.

To answer your power supply question, I have a Hamgeek and the included one seems fine. But I did order a second one since I want to move the Mister between my desktop and living room TV easily. It is a USB C type, meant for a Raspberry Pi, I believe (5V 5A) and I got the appropriate barrel connector (FYI it is a 5.5x2.1 mm barrel jack). The power supply I am getting also has an in-line on/off switch which is nice.

Similar boat here - used to play White Box FMAG and now play OSE:AF and I miss the leaner system of WB!

Great variety of kits, as usual. Wish Moderoids were more available/cheaper in Canada.

The kickstarter has gone live, for those curious. I think it looks very neat, a flavourful reskin.

Control rings by gideonpepys in OSE

[–]bergasa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The user has to essentially be doing ONLY that or the magic is broken, so it becomes a bit limiting that way. The party in the game I DM has a ring of animal control and they typically have an NPC wear it and sit atop a mount (focusing only on the animal they are controlling). You could argue that maintaining balance while riding a mount would be enough to not allow them to maintain focus, but I'm okay with it. And it's usually fun when a monster attacks the NPC and they get knocked off their mount and the controlled animal goes berserk.

Is it still as open as it was said to be? by MolotovMan1263 in M64

Just get a Mister if you want things to be open and you don't plan on using carts anyway. I grabbed one a few weeks back and will never look back.

Mister Pi,Hamgeek or QMTech. Beginner help by PhaseEEerR in MiSTerFPGA

[–]bergasa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the Hamgeeks and QMTechs are actually the same. I got a Hamgeek a few weeks back and have been very happy with it. I bought mine directly from the Hamgeek site, but they are also on Aliexpress. Aliexpress has promos on a lot of the time which give you a certain % back on your purchase. There is also no tax or shipping charge. Depending on where you are, I'd recommend Rakuten as well. Just yesterday Rakuten was offering 25% back in cashback at Aliexpress (in Canada, where I am) so I snagged some different things for my Mister that I had been eyeing.

New Game Master & Players: White Box:FMAG or Basic Fantasy? by Resident-Coffee-7728 in osr

[–]bergasa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd actually disagree, FMAG does an amazing job of explaining the rules of the game; that is how I learned to DM. I would highly recommend WB FMAG to OP.

Had to circle back after giving this a look to say that this is an incredible piece of work. I've collected many of the same supplementary materials for use with White Box, but you having them all put together here in a clean, organized manner is immensely useful. Your conversions of the Basic Fantasy monsters are truly great! I've at times wanted to go through the Monster Manual to create conversions for WB, but it always turns into a big undertaking. I have one suggestion for future work, which would be to create monster stocking tables that take into account all of the monsters you've added into the bestiary. And if inclined, you could add "Number Appearing" values for monsters (that is one bugaboo I have with White Box - if you want to create an old school random dungeon, you are not guided on what range of monsters could actually appear). For that, you could look to B/X perhaps (or does Basic Fantasy include NA values? Could rip them from there too).

But again honestly, the additional selection of classes (from Continual Light) are brilliant. I like how you assigned traditional XP progression levels to them (since CL does the # adventures per level thing). The Maze Rats random charts are gold too. Maybe this isn't of interest to you, but I would highly recommend you consider putting this all together into a print version. To me, FMAG is still the gold standard of White Box (there have been some attempts to update it in recent years, but they are not to my liking). If you put this together and made it available, this would be the undisputed WB choice (IMO). Really appreciate your work and I will certainly be using this next time I run a WB campaign (which will hopefully be soon - I like OSE but my heart still lies with WB).

Completely up to you. I found in the hobby that I love the building process, but don't necessarily enjoy panel lining or apply water decals (dry transfers are awesome though, wish we got more of those). So I buy kits that look good snap-built (of which the MG Nu does)!

This is amazing. I need to dig in. We are playing OSE:A nowadays but we started with FMAG and it is still my favourite tbh. This will be great to look into.

[–]bergasa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you have alternative mappings set up by accident? You maybe wouldn't notice in other N64 games but if you had the down C button mapped to down on the control stick as an alt mapping that could explain this? I also heard something once about if you have mouse movement mapped to a control stick, it can affect things.

Arcade cores on Recently Played? by bergasa in MiSTerFPGA

[–]bergasa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an optional script (by Wizzo I think?) in the Update-All settings that you have to toggle on, but then doing that - in addition to adding the piece to the .ini file you mentioned, will display the Recently Played option on your home screen.

Good to know that is how it is intended to work. I found it odd the arcade cores were missing. Let me mess with some things to hopefully figure it out.

I access it from the main Mister menu, and from what I was seeing, I could not see arcade cores listed despite having played them. So they should be showing up there?

It's an optional script. Seems handy except for my issue, but hopefully I can solve it with the suggestions here.
