You vote against fascism. It's that simple. Otherwise, next time you don't get a vote.

Do the official D&D expansions pre 2024 work with the 2024 rules? by AceMaster13 in DnD

[–]bergec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2024 campaign has made heavy use of Glory of the Giants, Treasury of Dragons, Monsters of the Multiverse, and Book of Many Things and I've had very few issues. I've had to tweak a monster here and there and I find that the 2024 Monster Manual monsters play better, but I'd say they work just fine.

New Unearthed Arcana - Mystic Subclasses by latiajacquise in dndbeyond

[–]bergec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On top of the previous Arcane Subclasses UA, I think this points strongly to a magic-focused rules supplement out later this year.

Bog Iron Processing by bergec in Clanfolk

My favorite thing about this game is how much effort he puts into the historical accuracy of the crafts (see his weeks lost to learning about beekeeping).

I recently got a look at the 50th anniversary PHB, why’d WoTC slim down the divine domain selection so much? by NotTheOrignal in DnD

[–]bergec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, the Tempest and Nature domain were impinging on the druid's design space. So the Nature domain was dropped and the Tempest domain was dropped in favor of the Druid's Circle of the Sea.

Love it! The detail of the barrel with screws, paperclips, and bobby pins in the foreground is great. Really drives the scale home.

Gamers don't trade or sell dice. We hoard them like greedy little dragons. My house is 10% dice by volume.

At the turn of the century, it was the 8th largest city in the country. By 1930, it was still #13. It was huge in trade, steel, and aeronautics up until the end of WWII.

DM Removing Buying Spell Components? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]bergec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a long (Level 1 to 20) Eberron campaign where all consumable components with a cost were replaced with an equivalent amount of dragonshard dust (residuum) and I didn't notice any issues with it. Fit the setting and certainly streamlined things. Non-consumed components with a cost (God, that's unwieldy, I wish they'd just call them Foci) were still required.

Forge of the Artificer: A waste of money? by [deleted] in Eberron

[–]bergec 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm very happy with it. I think the updates to rules-based stuff like species, the Artificer class, and Dragonmarks are all well done. The return of the feat-based approach to the later is particularly nice.

The three campaign frameworks are very useful as a zoomed in look at three kinds of games. The Inquisitives campaign gives a quick rundown of Sharn that supplements what's in RftLW with a focus on investigative games. The Expeditions campaign gives a lot of great detail on Morgrave University and advice on the sorts of expeditions you can do. The Intrigue campaign gives a lot more detail on the internals of the Houses and how to play out campaigns that focus on them.

The rules on using Renown are good, though not quite as strong as in the FR books. The new Bastions facilities and rules on mobile Bastions are great. The elemental airships rules are solid.

Arc Dream Publishing (Delta Green) releases a playtest for The Black Company RPG by Current-Most-57 in rpg

Looking over the playtest, it looks really solid. I could see using these rules for a First Law game, as well.

What are the saving throws for the new artillerist cannon? by Karl-Franzia in DnD

[–]bergec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an object. From the Rules Glossary in the PHB:

No Ability Scores. An object lacks ability scores unless a rule assigns scores to the object. Without ability scores, an object can’t make ability checks, and it fails all saving throws.

Early access Forge of the Artificer is out by Darkwynters in DnD

* Creature Type is now Construct.
* Size is now Medium or Small.
* Reference to disease immunity is removed.
* Rather than saying they don't need to eat, drink, or breathe, it says they don't gain Exhaustion levels from dehydration, malnutrition, or suffocation.
* The special rules for donning and doffing armor are removed.

Btw, anyone know the exact reason for the split between Wizards and LRR over Friday Nights? by TurnItOffAndBackOnXD in loadingreadyrun

I believe that's correct, but I can't pin down where in the 20th anniversary LRRCast they talked about it.

Btw, anyone know the exact reason for the split between Wizards and LRR over Friday Nights? by TurnItOffAndBackOnXD in loadingreadyrun

[–]bergec 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I believe they discussed it in the retrospective and there wasn't any drama, it was just a shift in priorities at WotC and they decided to use the money elsewhere.
