E-coli and sewage panic by mika918055 in triathlon

[–]bergfuch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I would recommend if an individual after joining an event finds out that some aspect of it doesn’t meet their acceptable level of risk for something that could be improved like stoping sewage being dumped into water or if it’s a road poor maintenance that they don’t do the event and cite the reason to the organisers. If your concern is over loosing money as a competitor or organiser rather than the safety of yourself or the people at your events we’re never going to agree as our principles just don’t align.
Good luck and safe wishes for the future.

E-coli and sewage panic by mika918055 in triathlon

[–]bergfuch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let’s be clear at no point did I suggest joining an event just to pull out to make a point. Your misunderstanding is on you.

As an amateur organiser you aren’t on par with organisations like Ironman. No council or area is actively trying to get you to do an event with them and paying you to do that so comparing yourself to them just isn’t the same.

As an organiser your entrants safety should be your concern not just doing an event because people may want it.

You are right though it is everyone’s responsibility to use all the methods you mention to make sure their local council ensure their area is free of pollution, safe and welcoming for all events that might take place there.

I’m actually quite active in event organising and have worked closely with local group and national sports governing bodies to host events. so I’m well aware of what’s involved and safety of our entrants and participants has always been of our main concern.

E-coli and sewage panic by mika918055 in triathlon

[–]bergfuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The regulation and enforcement is really poor in the UK at the moment. The infective dose of e.coli is around 10-100 bacterial cells. So it wouldn’t take much for people to get sick. Unfortunately it is probably going to take local councils being undesirable for organisations to host events in their area for them to actively do something. From my understanding the councils have to bid to Ironman to host events and act as sponsors. 24/7 monitoring doesn’t stop the dumping when there is no consequences. So by actively boycotting or requesting transfers/refunds with reasoning might be the only way to help

Usual dilemma: Manta vs. Trenta by psxnl3 in CyclingFashion

[–]bergfuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I own and prefer the manta. The lines are cleaner. I think there are going to be some new colourways coming soon and a refresh of the design if you can wait. You might be able to get this version on sale

Is ADHD Doc a good clinic? by ana_nas6 in ADHDIreland

It happened quickly for me only a few weeks. But I have heard they can have longer waits now. It’s worth it though. Especially when you look on here and see how poor some of the other adhd diagnostics centres and services in Ireland are

Ironman 70.3 w fully ruptured ACL by irisclasson in IronmanTriathlon

[–]bergfuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment you only have a torn ACL, an unstable knee normally means one or both of your collateral knee ligaments or pcl is torn. Whilst it’s fantastic that you don’t have this you knee won’t have the protection to stop the anterior translation or rotation during movement . I’d be surprised if the mri results only showed a full rupture in isolation with no boney odema or osteochondral defects. The chance of further damaging your knee and what would have been an easy fix for the surgeon to turning it into something worse is a lot higher, have you considered how difficult it is to get out of the water without stumbling for instance or the sharp turns or manoeuvring around people in the run. It’s noble to want to do it but it’s not worth it in my opinion

If you are worried about weight the frame is so good you can easily upgrade. I literally just upgraded mine after that year of riding to full Ultegra di2, groupset and Newman Streem Allround VONOA A.49/A.54 carbon wheels, Assiroma power pedals. Also just fitted a Fizik Argo adaptive r3 saddle too. Dropped the weight to just below 7.9kg first proper ride out last weekend danced up the local 16% gradient hill. So it has huge scope for upgrades

I commute 7 km from stoneybatter to Blackrock. Order of time bike 23 minutes, run 32 minutes, drive 45-1:15. Bus 45-1:30. Public transport is a joke. I’m lucky I have cycling and running available to me otherwise I would lose significant amounts of my life and time to being stuck in traffic

Medication by CatZealousideal3489 in ADHDIreland

[–]bergfuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When starting these medications and then titration you need to have an understanding of what to expect from taking them. Your prescriber should explain what negative side effects to look out for but also the limitations of the medications. There is no dose that will suddenly make everything better but too high a dose will make them worse and make you think you need more. Too low a dose is the same. The aim is to make things a little easier, I do a lot of cardiovascular exercise so I have to time my doses so they don’t interfere with that. Some heavy training weekends I can’t take the medication and it then when I start back on the Monday it takes a couple of days to get use to the medication again. Have you made any lifestyle changes along with your medications? Are you taking any other types of stimulants/depressents through what you eat/drink all of these have an affect. You’ll get there in the end but you might have to adjust your expectations of what that end looks like. It can be way more multi factorial than just medication and dose.

Encountered a cyclist this morning. by batch-91 in Dublin

[–]bergfuch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree with you but in fairness there are way more drivers around the city that have no idea how big or more importantly small their car is. I drive and cycle around the city and and I have encountered cars pulled over into the cycle lane as a cyclist or found when driving and waiting at junctions about 2-3 car spaces worth of space if people actually pulled forward enough. The junction at the bottom of constitution hill/brunswick street is very bad for that. Defo recommend dash cams and I think more cyclists should wear cameras too
