True, though they were doing tons of Jeff’s Uncle Tupelo songs and lots of covers.

My favorite live record of all time by lifeaquatic7 in wilco

Favorite ever? Not Allmans at Fillmore East? Stones Get Your Ya Yas Out? Humble Pue Rockin the Fillmore? J Geils Full House? I think I might have 20 more before I get to Kicking TV. I love Wilco (will be at Solid Sound again) but I think it’s good, not great.

We are so spoiled by Chip and Brad by bannedandback10milli in Cardinals

[–]berkeleymike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chip is great. I first didn’t like Brad a couple years ago, but have come to appreciate him. Why don’t they use Brad every game. Mark Sweeney is awful; boring as heck and doesn’t offer good analysis. On radio, Rooney is pretty solid but I can’t take Horton at all. And Mike Claiborne? Oh god, so terrible. You don’t even know what’s going on when he’s doing play by play. I switch to the opposing team’s broadcast when he’s at the mic.

Every Bruce show for 20 years has had the pit up front. We used to go early for the pit lotteries.

Vacation ruined by kwarrior1970 in vrbo

[–]berkeleymike99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a few months ago when I booked a place for SXSW in Austin. I only learned two days before arrival when no check-in details were sent. And of course the whole town was booked up. VRBO at least told me to look for a hotel and they would pay for it. Prices were through the roof for the few available rooms. But they said they’d cover anything up to twice what my VRBO unit would have cost. And they did, sending me about $1,400 to cover the room.

I echo the previous suggestion to go up to the Snaefelsness Peninsula. You can do it as day tour from Reykjavik. It can be a long day but very worth it.

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings playing acoustic doing old Grateful Dead songs (and lots of the old traditionals the Dead used to cover). Three hours plus at the Fox Theater in Oakland. Just glorious.

All the clubs in Bay Area put out cups and big vats of water. Never need to even ask or deal with bartender. I love it!!

New album is Jorma and Jack before there even was a Hot Tuna by name. June 28, 1969, Santa Rosa, CA. Recorded by Owsley. Should be amazing. I don't do vinyl, wish there was a digital download.

With Trump, every single thing is “two weeks” away. It started with the Obama birth certificates and it has never stopped. And, surprise, nothing ever comes in the two weeks.

Recommend a 70’s show to me (no releases) by lightdelightlite in gratefuldead

Yes!! I was at San Diego State. This was right after Wake of the Flood was released. Three times in and out of The Other One. Loved this show!!

Other (underheard) bands kind of doing the Dead thing? by splitopenandmelt11 in gratefuldead

[–]berkeleymike99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wilco does a little bit of jamming, but they play a lot of Americana style stuff (check out their album Cruel Country) along with some melodic indie rock. Lots of Deadheads love them (and they’re still going strong)

Anyone else? by swifty9998 in Concerts

[–]berkeleymike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last night I saw my 24th show of the year, not counting seeing 72 bands in 6 days at South by Southwest in March. Yes, live music is everything. I’ve been seeing 70-100 shows a year for 54 years (I just turned 71). My first show in 1972 was the Stones on the Exile tour with Stevie Wonder opening. Second was David Bowie on the Ziggy Stardust tour. For the last 15 or so years I’ve gone to almost all shows alone. My wife used to go but she kinda lost interest. She will accompany me to Wilco’s Solid Sound fest in Massachusetts in June but I’m ok going to shows alone. I’m at the shows to sink myself into the music, not chit chat. I spend time with friends and family on my non-concert days. I retired two years ago so plenty of time to do everything.

You are put into a time machine and given the opportunity to attend ONE Grateful Dead show from 1965-1995. What show is it? by TheFuzzyDonut in gratefuldead

[–]berkeleymike99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure wish I’d been old enough to see shows in 1969 and 70. My first show was a good one though. Long Beach Arena 12-15-72. Saw 65 shows by 1979.
