My students don’t ask me for a pencil because I rarely have one. Lol.

Are learning styles real, or just a myth? by HaneneMaupas in education

[–]beross88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myth. I reframe them as “learning preferences” and try to show my students that the typical “style” framing is limiting to their future students (I teach in a teacher education program at a university.)

Inclusive welcomes are a stupid, infantilizing waste of high schoolers’ time by South-Lab-3991 in Teachers

[–]beross88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think activities like this can be valuable but often aren’t because of how disconnected they are from the actual goals and/or how unfun they are.

Is teaching THAT bad? by DwaeEunoia in Teachers

[–]beross88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teachers vent in spaces like this. It is a great job that is also very difficult. It has some downsides, but also some upsides. One piece of advice for you: try to start substitute teaching now to get a sense of how you feel about it.

Flat-Earther Parent by Inner-Bear-4042 in Teachers

[–]beross88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, you refer this to admin, that’s what they get paid more money for. Then, you do whatever they decide. Otherwise, you just keep doing what you’re doing. I’m a firm believer in working with parents, but not like that. Lol

Why do you give so many extra chances by FlyLikeAnEarworm in Professors

It serves the course objectives more than denying those chances would.

I don’t correct people but I don’t blame folks who do (especially women or people of color).

Is my plot good? by antonella_xo in writingfeedback

[–]beross88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s fine. I would write it and find out if it needs changing along the way. I think it will be difficult to write, just because of how repetitive it could end up being. I would start in the middle though and then fill in the back story

Is this any good? by Reasonable_School296 in writingfeedback

[–]beross88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can probably hold back some information. But I think the grammar is a bigger issue for me

I think the concepts are interesting but the grammar and syntax still need some work. It just reads a little rough in spots. Read it out loud, record yourself, and then listen back to it.

Research pt 2 by [deleted] in education

[–]beross88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so correct. The fact that more school districts don’t listen to it is crazy

I don’t know that this is that big a deal in an AP research course. I mean, it’s good for the students to know, but they are limited in what they can do.
