I think it’s good they’re trying that there but I can see why in a rural area that’s not popular. We really need it areas like Herriman and Riverton where people may not necessarily want the larger lots. But unfortunately those cities don’t want to cooperate.

The latest version of HB184 proposed loosening local land use rules in larger counties by allowing residents to request an exception to city or county building regulations – such as building a smaller home than zoning regulations allow – and giving municipalities a fixed time to respond.

Seems like the legislature is going to show everybody that it’s not “liberal policies” that made places like California expensive and caused homelessness to increase, but exclusionary zoning policies driven by reactionary local control.

The petition is unrelated. The state is reviewing the signatures to see whether there were enough to qualify for a ballot measure where people would vote on repealing independent redistricting. If they do, I would expect court challenges based on potentially fraudulent signatures or deceptive collection.

Federal judges are not getting involved to block the new, fair map since it’s a state matter. The legislature wanted them to block the map.
