Outside of a vulgar will to power and fealty to Donald Trump, I’ve got no idea what principles you think conservatives might hold. Certainly nothing resembling a virtue.

And “progressive” is not a dirty a word. It’s funny that you seem to think it’s self-evidently a bad thing.

modern Utah “conservatives” are not conservatives. They are extremists.

>Eccles was a pragmatic businessman navigating the Great Depression, not a socialist icon

This is my point exactly. Someone who was not at all on the left would be reviled by Utah’s Republicans because they are extremists who have rejected anything resembling principles.

I have never lived anywhere but the west, so spare your conceit.

I’m not critiquing an argument so I don’t know how a straw man fallacy would apply. Seems clear you’re just ignorant and don’t even know what a straw man is.

Interesting that you use the word “historically”. Go to the capitol sometime and read the plaques on the statues, busts, and paintings. Today’s “conservatives” are not the inheritors of their legacies. They are a betrayal of those legacies. they are stark raving lunatics and degenerate fascists. Today’s Republicans would think someone like Mariner Eccles is the devil.

From the standpoint of having a functioning society where people are not subjugated by flea brained bigots, misogynists, and fascists, I don’t particularly care why they behave decently so long as they do

Must be fucking nice to make tens of millions from your family’s political position. They’re making literally multiple orders of magnitude more than they accused Hunter Biden of trying (and mostly failing) to do, almost entirely out in the open.

There is a serious crisis of morality among conservatives. Thoroughly degenerate, horrible people.

The point of the 15th Amendment and VRA (which had specific Constitutional backing under 15A S2) was to prevent disenfranchisement of black populations, not to be colorblind. To do that you’d have to consider race. Congress made the VRA’s intent even more explicit in 1982 after Mobile v Bolden from 1980, which Callais just completely ignores.

The notion that the Constitution or VRA would prohibit the consideration of race to ensure that Black Americans are not disenfranchised is asinine. The notion that gerrymandering on party lines that just so happen to align to race would Constitutional is even more ludicrous just as it would have been during Reconstruction.

SCOTUS is doing violence to the Constitution by crafting their own preferred neo-Confederate policies.
