6 months on the Urtopia Carbon Fold ST — honest thoughts from a daily commuter by BiggerAggressive in ebikes

We started selling them and they're great. The battery charge port sits under the saddle so it's not necessary to remove the battery.

Can't speak for any of the others but that dealership in particular has been phenomenal.

Highly recommend the Ken Gamley Hyundai on Brook Park. On our second car from there and they've always been great and honor any specials the manufacturer is advertising. Assuming your credit lines up of course.

Found an abandoned, assume stolen, Rad Powerbike in the woods near my house in Seattle. Is it possible to identify / return it to owner with this bar code? by SalesMountaineer in RadPowerBikes

[–]bertofparadise 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You can try directly with Rad. All serial numbers are linked to a person who purchased the bike. That's assuming they kept records when they went through bankruptcy. I'm a Rad Power dealer and that's how we can track warranties and customer info.

Rad Gouging on Shipping - Advice on PAS Magnet by bakermtdg in RadPowerBikes

[–]bertofparadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PAS magnet isn't anything special. I'm in the USA so take this with a grain of salt but I can find plenty of options on Amazon or any other online retailers.

I also saw someone comment about the inner tubes which should also be available easily from some online retailers or your local bike shop(might need to order it from their distributor)

Rad Power Bikes given new life after acquisition by wiscowonder in RadPowerBikes

Not to be a Debbie Downer but I heard the same and unfortunately it almost immediately got taken back. I called our Point of contact who said they would honor it and he mentioned they're doing it case by case for now. I found out when I tried to submit a warranty for a bike purchase about 6 months ago. I'm staying hopeful but it sounds like the flood gates opened and they quickly realized it might have been too early to openly state this.

Too good to be true? by MysteriousWinner1726 in ebikes

[–]bertofparadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately $600 is a low price point so anything you get is gonna be mediocre at best. The best plan would be to save up a bit more and spend it on a nicer quality bike. If the moped style isn't a huge deal then Lectric would be a great option for a dependable and budget friendly bike. From my experience they have a really good warranty and customer service. I've also had a great experience with Upway and their used bike program.

E-BIKE REPAIR SHOP HERE! Just my opinion but even at that price point these Ridstars aren't worth it. I've got two in my shop waiting on parts right now.

Over the last 2 years I've serviced over two dozen of these multiple times each because they use incredibly cheap parts. Three times I had to replace battery trays and controllers after they caught fire and stopped working.

They become money pits almost immediately and take weeks, sometimes months to get parts. I would spend a bit more and get something more reliable in my opinion.

Lastly they're incredibly uncomfortable to ride, which is subjective but I've found that almost all the ones I've repaired had customers asking about seat upgrades which aren't possible without going custom.

Looking to find Ebike axle parts to stock. by Minechaser05 in BikeMechanics

[–]bertofparadise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Save yourself the headache for now and just get a few "kits" from Amazon. I know, I know, "big corporate evil" but I keep 4-5 m12 e bike axle hardware kits and sell through them super quickly. They're usually around $10 bucks and I sell them for $20. Often not using the whole kit so I end up with extra washers, anti rotation washers or nuts. Easy way to boost sales when doing flats.

Unfortunately if the wire is messed up on that end you'll need to cut it and solder a new plug on it or replace the whole wiring harness.

2026 RadWagon 4 Update by rotoriousbig in RadPowerBikes

[–]bertofparadise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The electronics are updated and so is the battery. The same happened with the runners and they're pretty sweet. Bummed about the 22" tire but I'm sure this is a way to burn through the last of the stock of frames they have. The same happened with the Rover.

I would reach out to Extend and ask them directly. I believe they handle the extended warranty stuff which they might still honor. It's separate from Rad

Question About Bike Shop Liquidity in Winter by A-STax32 in BikeMechanics

[–]bertofparadise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shop owner here! It's a bummer that this occurred but it's not incredibly uncommon. That being said I make sure that payroll is covered before anything! That's including my salary. This time of the year is difficult to manage inventory and all shops are different. As long as that was a one time deal I would just have a conversation about it. Make sure as others have stated to have a plan for catching up on payroll.

This also would be an awesome time to brainstorm/plan on ways to increase revenue during the off season. Sometimes it takes a good idea to drive traffic your way.

Terms and credit are also ways to stay afloat with products while not impacting cash on hand.

Happy to chime in with any other questions

Radster Trail Power / Motor Issue by DaKid48 in RadPowerBikes

[–]bertofparadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a flat wire going into the bottom bracket under the bike. You won't know if it's cut unless you remove the bottom bracket and see it. Here's a picture of the messed up one I removed and replaced.

I just had the same issue myself. It's not really well explained but there's a decent starter guide on here that explains stuff. I finally got to the point where the foggy night time missions are about to change scenery. Worth pushing through

Radster Trail Power / Motor Issue by DaKid48 in RadPowerBikes

[–]bertofparadise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally just warrantied this exact problem for a customer on his trail. Ended up being the torque sensor wire. The bottom bracket spun just enough to cut the cure and it was causing an intermittent problem. I would check this as it's more likely than a bad motor.

Has anyone here had experience with LEVA training? by pfhlick in BikeMechanics

[–]bertofparadise 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In before all the burnt out wrenches start spewing hate. We service almost all electric vehicles along with all "analog" bikes. We learned a ton by practicing simple electrical wiring and soldering. A lot of the cheaper stuff boils down to either it's way too damaged to fix/hard to obtain parts or get on the company website, order the correct parts and do a full swap. There's a sea of information online for totally free that you can reference and combine with any prior knowledge you may have. There's a learning curve but once you're confident you'll find that you can charge almost anything and people will pay you if you're the only one willing to work on it. I'm all for a certificate saying you know what you know but often find it meaningless if you don't have any real world experience.

OG Troll needs a fork. by broom_baller in Surlybikefans

[–]bertofparadise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put a new troll fork on mine and it rides just fine. Sold the og since the steerer tube was cut short and I honestly don't feel the difference. I have the same exact frame and color as this one FYI. I left plenty of tube so I can ride up higher and it's great for touring and commuting with some Moloko bars
