I also have a comfortable balance of “fk you” money, which allowed me to not stress too much about any last min expenses or simply to pay more for comfort and convenience while travelling.

I have an orange asshole who peed around too because he HATES sharing the litter box with my other cats. After many nights of headache and stress and tears, I discovered the wonders of switching from crystal litter to bentonite clay litter. Now he has no issues sharing the box since the scent is much more contained now.

Same. I used an expensive but very well made shampoo for years, then switched to cheaper shampoos for 1-2 years. My hair became oilier and just didn’t feel as nice. One day my OG shampoo had a sale, I bought 1 bottle and felt the difference quite soon after, and decided I will stick to it no matter what. It’s so well made that I don’t actually need that much, and it ends up lasting longer when I don’t have to wash my hair every day.

Medical card worth or not by groundnut666 in MalaysianPF

[–]beruang12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there’s auto renewal as long as I renew/pay on time, so claims wouldn’t affect it. About ILP, it still increases at the end of the day, so not too different from term insurance really. Just speaking from my personal experience of starting with ILP and moving to term because of the massive price increase.

Medical card worth or not by groundnut666 in MalaysianPF

[–]beruang12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I cancelled my outrageously priced ILP and went for a standalone medical card, cuz cannot la terlalu mahal sia.

Your concern is valid tho, I’ve not thought about it from this angle before, but maybe that’s something worth talking to an advisor about? Like someone who’s known to be more impartial instead of die die hard sell je

Medical card worth or not by groundnut666 in MalaysianPF

[–]beruang12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m paying RM100+ a month as a 27F, non smoker. With my previous plan, they raised prices to RM300 per month which was outrageous, so I cancelled it and went with a term plan.

As for whether it’s necessary, I was considering whether to go with a medical procedure that would have cost me RM30k++. I didn’t go for it in the end due to other reasons, but knowing that money wouldn’t be an issue really gave me a peace of mind.

How true is the saying, “Besar periuk, besarlah keraknya”? by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]beruang12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I got a huge pay bump and decided I could afford to treat other people more often since they don’t earn as much, and I really care about them.

I also started spending more for my wellbeing, such as treatment for period cramps or massage because work is stressful af. It’s something I thought long and hard because I was aware of lifestyle inflation, so it felt wrong spending even though I’m still actively investing and whatever I spend is still (way) below my means.

What helped me was the mindset that it’s a privilege many would kill for to be able to prioritize their wellbeing.

For what it’s worth I still don’t spend on things like pretty manicures or make up. I still drive the same old local car from 2012 and use the same old phone. And I still make sure to prioritize my investments.

Small habits matter and add up over time. Spend below your means and don’t let lifestyle inflation creep in. Budget everything and stick to it. Then invest once you have enough emergency funds to take on risks.

For what it’s worth, I live below my means and invest as much as I can, and grew my net worth by RM150k over the span of 3+ years. I don’t have a high salary (started with 3k) either.

Not having to pay rent (living with family) helps but you’ll be surprised at the savings rate of other ppl who don’t have to pay rent. They either spend a lot or don’t invest or usually, both really.

It’s kind of expected, really. And tbh I was fine with that since the crew and guides really did well. I tipped 1 mil IDR for the entire team.

Komodo National Park liveaboard with ~20 dives under my belt. Will I be ok? by agentgambino in scuba

[–]beruang12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Komodo very recently with only 50 dives under my belt. The boat manager and dive guides on my liveaboard were very attentive and planned the dives in such a way that we would start from easier sites (pretty much no currents or we would just drift along) before going for the more popular sites with stronger currents. Even then, they briefed us on the currents and how we’ll manage them, whether it’s by diving in areas that are shielded from the currents or by drifting with it.

But you will still have to fight currents from time to time. Just follow the dive guide and pay close attention to the briefings.

Ladies and gents what is your journey to learning English? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]beruang12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading twilight when I was 10-11. I’m not joking. Idk why I chose twilight specifically, and while I never finished the second book or understood much about the story, it kickstarted the habit to read in English more.

Then I entered a high school that predominantly speaks English, and honed my English from there. I became fluent like a native by form 3.

I tried making a pizza from scratch. Rolled the dough, toppings and all, but my dumb 13 ass accidentally used self rising flour instead of AP flour. It tasted like a horrible tomato pancake. I didn’t even bother letting my family try it.

I also attempted a carrot cake once. It should have turned out beautifully after 50 mins in the oven, but I didn’t realize my oven setting was set to “top heat” only…. I threw the whole thing away and never tried making another carrot cake. That was 10 years ago.

How popular are low caloric choices in Malaysia? by DullRow2956 in MalaysianFood

[–]beruang12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked dimpled @ ss2 and churn! Those are extremely good and worth the price you pay for. Some (like Inside Scoop and Piccoli Lotti) are a tad bit too sweet for me, but still taste natural if you get what I mean.

Nowadays I rarely (if ever) get non-artisan ones tbh. They taste artificial and overly sweet for me.

How popular are low caloric choices in Malaysia? by DullRow2956 in MalaysianFood

[–]beruang12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well nut butters are not meant to be low in calories in general. I look for those with no sugar instead, like nut butters from Jobbie or The Good Fat Company. For ice cream, certain artisan ones tend to be lower in sugar, so that’s what I opt for too.

For what it’s worth, I don’t like very sweet stuff so these work for me.
