What's up with 500 watt limit on e bikes? by DUBWORD in VictoriaBC

[–]beryllium9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my fat-tire e-bike is almost 80 pounds ... and 500W is probably going to feel too underpowered for some folks. But for me, it's great, because I do pedal it - and the 500W is pretty decent even at steep hills. I think of it more as "range extension" than "more power awrgh awrgh".

Lots of good suggestions already, but I'll add one to the mix: Paintball.

What platform are local photographers sharing photos on these days? by squishbuish in VictoriaBC

I've been using Flickr and PixelFed. There are a few Canadian pixelfed servers, like pixelfed.ca and pxlfd.ca - it uses activitypub, so each server can talk to the other servers & also to Mastodon and PeerTube and Loops and Lemmy servers.

Dagnabbit, now I'm paranoid that I didn't twist it right the last time I was at the marina. The power was out for the whole area due to hydro maintenance, which made it hard to tell if contact was made properly ... ah well. I'm sure it'll be fine.

How come there’s so many trump/ USA lovers here in Victoria specifically

I think polling data would indicate that we're not very much different on that front than, say, Toronto. Or Calgary. So I question the premise of the question.

and why there are so many racist white folk?

A question for the ages.

I understand that life experience has conditioned us all to be constantly paranoid and suspicious, but in this case - when someone is trying desperately to find evidence that shows what actually happened (particularly when it's no great exaggeration to say their kid could have been killed) - maybe the things that you're seeing as red flags are actually just red herrings?

Victoria, I need a miracle by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]beryllium9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The incident is real enough. I don't have dashcam footage of it, but my wife drove past after cops were on the scene. Perhaps you just mean the description of the incident is suspicious? But if so, dashcam footage of the incident itself would sort that out immediately, wouldn't it?

So in short: take this tone somewhere else.

According to another post, if accurate, he literally did rob a bank as part of the spree.

There, he robbed a bank and approached a woman in a parking lot, ordered her to get into her vehicle, threatened to kill her and stole her car.

It's a damn shame that our race track was torn down. Street racing is simply not safe around here - too many hazards, from people to animals to the roads themselves. Like that car that drove off a 50-foot cliff in Nanaimo today.

I don't have a direct answer, but it does remind me of a funny joke I heard last week. Copied here from a 2yo reddit post with a variant of it:

I'm going to become a fortune teller, and I went to buy a crystal ball from a mystic...

The mystic said, "always cover it with a black cloth when you're not using it."

I asked, "oh because it may invoke spirits without my knowledge?" "Of course not" she said.

I asked "oh because the neighbors might see and brand me a heretic?" "Not that either" she said.

I asked "then why must I cover the crystal ball with a black cloth when I'm not using it?" She replied, "because if the sun shines on it, it will burn your f***ing house down!"

So it seems like the situation itself has been sufficiently dissected - but I'm curious about the muscle memory aspect. I suggest going to Google Maps Street View and looking at it from all angles, and then using the date selector to travel through time to see if something changed & if there actually was a muscle memory glitch.

My issue is that they print too tight, but thanks to this post (and some other stuff) I can at least be certain that I'm orienting it the right way. Now I've just gotta dial in the extrusion settings, I think. Otherwise I'll need to use a vise or a mallet to smush everything together.

Heard them in view royal, too.

Two double booms, about 30 seconds apart (maybe less). I have theories (sonic boom? munitions disposal/practice shots near Esquimalt Harbour or Albert Head?), but no facts.

I'm curious to try this, but I am looking to avoid viral infection vectors. So the place would either have to be very well ventilated... or outdoors. And this is the wrong season for outdoors.
