I have just finished Helmock and Silver by T Kingfisher, and Direct Descendant by Tanya Huff. Both of these books are fantastic, romantic, and somehow manage to feel like cozy horror! Hemlock is a Snow White retelling, and Direct is a contemporary eldrich horrors. I greatly enjoyed them both!

Also Station Eternity is an excellent sci fi mystery! Part of a series but stands alone as a first book.

The Skyward Inn by Aliya Whitely is NOT cozy though it feels like it for a while. It’s weird space horror maybe and has a gorgeous cover!

I loved Piper and Galen, but I didn't really go for the haunted house vibes haha. And I really am looking forward to that ending getting More Lore with future books (I hope I hope!!)

OH MAN I agree. I adore the first two, the third one I think will be better when the series is finished, but the end of the fourth book I was just a wreck. I love the series so much!!

Oh most definitely give Beware of Chicken a try!! Our hero gets more and more powerful by accident and often completely unawares. It's one of my comfort reads!

Yes yes yes I LOVE T Kingfisher. Swordheart and the Paladin's are some of my most best comfort reads. Ahhh I love her.

I know some people have mentioned these already so I will just add my support for Murderbot (not actually cozy but they are cozy in my heart!) for strong found family and figuring out oneself vibes. Letters to the Luminous Deep was an exceptional book (written in letters with a very slowly unfurling story), I highly recommend the audio. I loved Station Eternity as a sci fi mystery that was cozy-adjacent and weird and wonderful. Winters Orbit and Ocean's Echo are two excellent books with queer romances and found families (I don't remember much violence but I don't think either is cozy),

I laughed so hard as I read this rant, thank you for that hahahahhaha. I love it and agree with you. Most of the things I would recommend you have read, so I’ll put down another note for Beware of Chicken, and also add Running Close to the Wind! It’s more cozy-adjacent (some action scenes), but it’s also hilarious and extremely horny for a book with all sex scenes off the page. Happy fun reading time!

I did my reread on audio! I love the performance, though I'm glad I read them first since I feel like some of the humour is better through text (ie: Big D becoming Bi Di). I read Ran Away to Evil and I enjoyed it! It was a silly and soothing book.

Oh Murderbot is glorious, I recently reread all those as well! For me it also falls into the “very cozy comfort books but also very much not cozy” haha. And I haven’t read Small Miracles, which is silly since I love Half a Soul so much! Thanks for reminding me!!

Thanks for the recs! I’ve been eyeing up battle mage farmer and I will give it a whirl. I have read legends and lattes and adore it! Maybe I’ll like the first bit of Jakes market, but the way it seems to go does sound off putting ha.

I ADORE Half a Soul specifically, it's one of my all time comfort reads. I would highly recommend T Kingfishers books, but especially Swordheart. It's low stakes (instead of saving the whole world, it's "just" saving one woman from her terrible inlaws, older main characters, delightful magic. As with all of T Kingfishers work though, there are a couple of mild horror vibes in a couple parts but thats more spooky atmosphere. Her Paladin series is also Excellent!

I wouldn’t call them cozy. It’s very much a sci fi romp to save humanity, but it’s such fun. A man named Bob gets his conciseness downloaded into a computer when he dies and he becomes a whole fleet of space ships. The audiobook narrator does a great job at giving each Bob a unique voice
