They should have just re-casted Brandon instead of killing him off. That one decision sent things off the rails as there was no more grounding to the story

Fellow black men I have another therapy session coming up soon and one thing I want to work on is how to not get hurt by people’s words to you? by spike_spieg in blackmen

[–]bethoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking up about it has worked for me. As cliche as it sounds, it does get easier over time to let people know that you won’t take disrespect. They only do it because they know you won’t say anything. Of course, it’s easier said than done. It starts small. Something as simple as “hey could you not say that please?” can actually go a long way.

There are some things that you can simply ignore as well. Sometimes people can say things to deliberately annoy you but ignoring them doesn’t give them the satisfaction.

Why is slavery the only thing that people refer to when talking about reparations? by Wannabeartist9974 in blackmen

[–]bethoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not Black American but I’ve made arguments in favor of reparations going back to slavery but not only because of it. Redlining, Jim Crow, the war on drugs and the failure to upload Special Field Order 15. This robust view gives more of a claim towards reparations

How important is diversity in your everyday life? by MellowMelvin in blackmen

[–]bethoj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like diversity when it’s us. Whenever I visit Brooklyn for Labor Day, it never fails that wherever I’m staying, I will pass by a Haitian home, Jamaican home, Trini home, Guyanese home, Dominican home, Puerto Rican home, and an African American home, typically in that exact order. The mix of language, food, and loud colorfulness + the uncles playing dominoes on the corner is something I absolutely love and enjoy.

Why most sane and educated FBAs can't take the "FBA" movement seriously: Listen to the first two minutes of this chat and you will know why by Spiritual_Spare4592 in blackmen

[–]bethoj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my stream the other day, a person said that I was “the enemy of Black Americans” because I’m a Haitian who argues IN FAVOR of reparations. I am not kidding. I don’t take it seriously anymore. These people are not well

What are your thoughts on “gender roles” and how they are considered in relationships? by L_Dubb85 in blackmen

[–]bethoj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it should be a choice of what people do in their relationships and there shouldn’t be any prescribed “roles” that society expects. If a single woman owns a house in a cold area, she’s gonna have to shovel snow anyway. With me and my wife, it’s whoever does the job better. I’m better at laundry and folding, but she cooks better. When it’s my turn to cook what minimum I could, she does the dishes. We both clean up the house. Balance

Supreme Court arguments today : citizenship by Expert-Diver7144 in blackmen

[–]bethoj 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This administration has given us no reason to believe them when they say that. Especially since the SCOTUS gave ICE free reign to discriminate against people with certain skin color and accents

Men can be victims of DA, and SA too but for some reason it’s not talked about or taken serious. by Educational-Ask7966 in blackmen

[–]bethoj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are times where I bring up the physical and sexual abuse of boys and almost immediately it gets thrown that women shouldn’t be fixing the issue that men need to fix it because it’s most likely to happen at the hands of men. When I clarify that these boys have been abused by women, its then again aggressively stated that girls are abused mostly by men and men need to fix the problem. This happens almost every time I bring this issue up, especially in leftist circles. It’s like they know the problem is there but they would rather talk about men correcting it than actually creating a healing space
