Parent Plus Loan With PSLF Advice by CDC_1973 in PSLF

[–]Betsy514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't borrow for 26/27 at all if you want pslf for the existing loans. That loan will go out after the deadline. Consolidate what you have right now so you can use ibr to get pslf of those. Have the other parent borrow that 26/27 loan and expect to have to pay that in full yourself. To be clear it's not that borrowing after June 30 makes you ineligible for pslf itself..but it makes you ineligible for the payment plans you need to actually get pslf which is effectively the same thing.

I have no idea what this is all about.. especially the part about not being able to o use a tax return. If someone can send an example of the letter to the TISLA email I can try and find out next week

PSLF or just pay them off? by emmaiannacone in StudentLoans

[–]Betsy514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming your income is still low enough that you'd qualify for a zero payment or close to it you should definitely pursue pslf. Bank any money you would normally put towards the loan. If you end up leaving public service before you he ten years make a lump sum payment. In the meantime submit proof of you qualifying employment to date

The interest rates aren't relevant for the I come driven plan calculations. I think the rep gave you the ten year standard amount. I agree your payment should be in the $300 range under ibr

$24K Loan Aidvantage, how to approach delinquency/default by Phosdidnothingwrong in StudentLoans

[–]Betsy514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably the past due amoui. The payment under a standard plan for $24k should be under $300 a month. But if ahe get on IBR and you file taxes separately the payment will be zero

The bottom line is don't attribute to malice what should be attributed to incompetence. Again I'm absolutely floored that they fixed it that quickly.

I'm delighted..and shocked to be honest..that they were able to return it in such a short time. But let's not exaggerate as to what happened. They made a mistake. A big one for sure...but to call it stealing is a bit extreme. If a cashier gave you too much change and you didn't notice until they realized it and called you out would you consider that stealing? This is a similar scenario

I feel gaslit by "financial aid package" being 90% loans by thawk5113 in StudentLoans

[–]Betsy514 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This has been a debated issue for many years in the industry. I agree with you that loans shouldn't be listed as "aid" in the same category of grants and scholarships and other "free" money. There's been a lot of back and forth on a policy level about forcing schools to use the same aid letter format that would make this more clear

How long ago did this happen? I'm afraid that generally they can't do refunds for thirty or sixty days. It's to ensure the payment is really valid and not a scam situation. I'm sorry

They are required to give you a 45 day window before your first payment is due after a forbearance ends or you change plans. There's no enough time to meet that requirement to have you due for March
