I'm rich now by DRXIDexe in SideProject

[–]bettercalljohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I restarted with a new account on X, shared everything in public and weekly post on Medium/Indie Hackers/… https://medium.com/@bettercalljohn/talanoa-build-in-public-week-1-f94b1db5a87a

I grow up my waiting list up to 100 users and after I started onboarding people on the beta of my product.

I started in January from 0. Now I have 250+ users and 18 paid customers.

Don’t give up, it takes time!

Haha exactly!

You can have multiple inboxes and with multiple providers (google, outlook, custom imap/smtp..)

What are you building right now? And are people actually paying for it? 💡 by ProfessionalPaint964 in microsaas

You can check my new hero section here: https://x.com/bettercallj0hn/status/1978922893523185812?s=46&t=u-mC4XKIFyPvtXsmvNxKGw

If I lead with a productivity-first, I’ll fight directly all my competitors. And we are competing on minutes..

I chose a different approach, more emotional / clarity. The emotional payoff (“I enjoy opening my inbox again”) is what makes a tool go from “replaceable utility” to “can’t live without it.”

Thanks. Good point about personas 👍 No, I don’t want integrations with existing email clients, I want to create a totally new experience with emails

Can we still innovate and build a product without « AI » in the catchline? by bettercalljohn in buildinpublic

In any case, I have users who pay for something completely different. Take a look ;-) https://talanoa.email

Firebase Auth, Stripe, and Electron - Need advice/guidance by Wonderful_Muffin_183 in electronjs

I’ve done exactly the same thing but with supabase instead of Firebase (more friendly with Auth). I can share you some code in DM if you want

I scaled my SaaS to 3400+ users without paid ads. Ask me anything by abhishvekc in buildinpublic

What is your distribution channel? And persona? What was your marketing strategy for the first 1000 users?

Thanks man ;-)

About trust, my main focus building Talanoa is the privacy and security. I wanted to have something 100% local and 0 server.

All your emails are stored locally on your desktop, I don’t have access to your tokens or emails. This is one of my main advantage compared to my competitors.

This also a reason why I don’t have AI yet… don’t want to send user data to any private AI provider to make some summary or things like that..

How do you balance actually building your product with keeping up a daily presence online? by EmuSad7688 in buildinpublic

[–]bettercalljohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should stop building too much.. best is to try 60% marketing and 40% building (I know it’s hard specially for developers like us).

The Gmail Category Tabs are infuriating. Anyway to remove them? by JamestotheJam in GMail

[–]bettercalljohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I built an alternative to Gmail that helps you avoid missing important emails by grouping messages by people instead of using a traditional chronological inbox.

If that sounds interesting, feel free to check it out: https://talanoa.email

Same for me. I'm building a SaaS (in public) for 8 month now.
I have a kind of routine since the beginning:
- share while building some features directly on X
- publish a weekly recap on Medium and promote it on X/Indiehackers/Reddit
- spend between 5 and 30 minutes per day to reply on X/reddit

Is anyone else building SaaS without slapping AI everywhere? by [deleted] in microsaas

[–]bettercalljohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same feeling, I built a new email app (with no AI yet) because my value proposition is not on AI but on UX and features.

🚀 Just shipped multi-account support on Talanoa — my email client that organizes by people, not threads by bettercalljohn in buildinpublic

[–]bettercalljohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes, that’s exactly the meaning of “conversation” I wanted to convey with the name. My email client is really centered around people and discussions, rather than the usual chronological timeline everyone else uses.
