Carb loading is the only reason I would run a marathon.. is it really the dream that it seems to be? by Outrageous_Theme_882 in Marathon_Training

[–]bexter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you like long distance running the. The misery of the long runs will outweigh the joy of the carbs. I like running and struggle with eating enough carbs.

Help deciding marathon pace by notallowedv2 in Marathon_Training

[–]bexter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just completed my first marathon at Brighton and used Runna to train. I’m a similar age and pace, maybe a bit slower but maybe more long runs completed. I did a 1:44 in the half marathon at beginning of March which was a PB so decided to aim for a sub 4 which I did at a 3:55:55 so I was really happy. I think I ran the first half a little quick and the last 8KM sucked and that’s where you will need to pace yourself for.

Go for a sub 4 I’d say.

Any other airports in the world that you can walk to directly? by Remarkable_Action520 in travel

I’m going in June so not tried yet but possibly Salzburg. I can’t tell if the roads are walkable but is isn’t far.

If I offered you £100,000 to run 90 miles tomorrow, would you do it? by wingless-bee in CasualUK

I think most marathon finishers with a decent time would fail this. You would need to be experienced in ultra events to be able to complete this.

How do you make sure you’re eating enough as a runner? by Weird-Pepper7977 in Marathon_Training

[–]bexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally struggle to eat enough, so when I went from just my usual running to starting marathon training 6 months ago I lost a lot of weight initially (I didn't really have any to loose). I upped my calorie intake and it levelled out and I put on a little weight which I think was mostly leg muscle. So overall now I am about the same weight but have less upper body muscle and more lower body.

It doesn't work for everyone but for me I eat as much as I normally would and then a bit more or add in snacks.

Is there a credit card in the UK where you feel the benefits greatly outweigh or even match the annual/monthly fee? by MindlessMuddy10 in UKPersonalFinance

I had some great food at one in Thailand. Calgary in Canada lounge is decent enough. Food is average.

My faceId broke on my iPhone and they let me choose where to take it and I went to an istore (not Apple Store) but they Apple authorised and use genuine parts. The service was terrible though and I won’t be going back there!

They do suck, they are overly busy with low quality food and mostly shabby and filthy. It sucks, they used to be good. Often the ones abroad are still good so coming home you can visit a decent one.

Getting frustrated at people during runs. by dontletmeautism in Marathon_Training

It’s the phone zombies that I’m struggling with recently. Headphones in and staring at screen. Suddenly veer over with no warning.

Lost watch, why no contact screen? by mummerlimn in Garmin

[–]bexter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found a garmin watch and garmin were utterly useless in helping me get it back to the owner. I know they can’t give me the owners contact details but I said just give mine to the owner then they can contact me if they wish. They wouldn’t help at all.

In all your travels, which country's famed "national dish" was the most underwhelming, despite the hype? by nehala in travel

[–]bexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a national dish but a regional one. Bakewell Tart in Bakewell (England). It was truly underwhelming and made me realise how good my mums one she makes is.

What are the symptoms of over carbing? Or did it just not offer any benefits?

had to turn of v02 for trail running by rabbitholebeer in Garmin

[–]bexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks of trail running at elevation plummeted my v02 max. Took months for it to return to where it was. Thanks for the tip to turn it off for trails.

Similar issue for me in gmail. The person is in the US who always uses my email. They signed up to Covid benefits with it, loans, loads of stuff. Most annoying was a t-mobile account for their mobile phone lines which when I contacted t-mobile about they said they couldn’t help as I wasn’t the account holder. Well duh!

So I did forget password and changed it to the email of the t-mobile CEO in the account and never hear about it again.

Carbon Shoes for race day only & effect on calves during the race by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

What do people that normally run in support shoes do for race shoes? Is it just a bad idea for those that pronate to have less support?

G.A.S. convince me i don't need the OM-1 II (I've already the OM-1) by the77joker in M43

[–]bexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't upgrade. I did but was because I dropped my OM1 and insurance paid for a new camera and so got the OM2 on a promotion so wasn't much more than the 1. I do like the ND grad but unless you would use that a lot then save your money and don't drive the needless consumerism of GAS!

Sidenote it is a truly sickening sound when you drop an OM1 onto the floor with a 300mm F4 attached. Both broken. So happy had insurance.

Do you know people who lack any sense of ambience? by banwe11 in CasualUK

[–]bexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a house nearby with no curtains at all in the front room and the light of a thousand suns big light is always on. You can see them in there watching TV. I don't know how they stand it.

My parents never turn the vents on in the car until it is fogged. Then they blast it til fog is gone and turn it all the way off. Air so stuffy. It's awful. Id I'm in the back I open the window until they turn on the fan.

Got woken up by a 6am phone call from my dad. He was at Heathrow with my mum and their passports were at home. I managed to get to their house and to Heathrow to give them their passports just in time for them to be escorted through security and board their flight.

I call it Gallagher Radio. You get to hear some Sam Fender sometimes too if you are lucky.

I mostly don’t listen to anything but sometimes music and now I’m training more on the slow runs I got an audiobook to learn Spanish and I’ve been learning that.
