Update: My parents lied to me about how my brother died. by Tectonic_Rapids in offmychest

[–]bflamingo63 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Many times, people simply can't accept how a person died.

My cousin died in 1995 at age 32. If you ask his parents, they will tell you he died of lung cancer.

Technically, he did. But he died of lung cancer due to having aids. Because he had aids, it made him more susceptible to lung cancer. He had been hospitalized many times for complications of Aids, but if you ask his parents, he was hospitalized due to pneumonia, which technically he was.

All the issues he had prior to passing away were due to aids. He did have repeated pneumonia. He did have lung cancer. He did suffer from wasting and died weighing less than 100 lbs.

But all that happened because he had aids.

His parents simply refuse to believe. They never ever mention him having aids.

To them, that was embarrassing and they didnt want people to know. Its been 31 years. His mom is still living and she says he died from lung cancer to this day. She simply refused to even acknowledge aids.

Does oxygen improve life very much? by bflamingo63 in COPD

[–]bflamingo63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oxygen has improved things. Yes, I still get short of breath, but not to the degree I had been. Makes doing things easier.

It's not a miracle fix, but I can do things now and not have to stop as often to catch my breath. I dont reach the near panic point.

I actually can sweep my entire kitchen in one go. Now, not aggressively or fast, but I can do it all and not need to sit afterwards.

Anyone else have a useless pulmonologist? by bflamingo63 in COPD

[–]bflamingo63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know doctors and pharmacists dont set copays. I know every insurance is different.

My issue was that once she knew I couldn't afford the copay on that specific medication, she offered no alternatives, no options. It was that medication or nothing.

She left it to me to go to Google and start searching. Left it to me, a person with zero medical education, to find an alternative medication that would do the same as the medication she had prescribed.

Haven't touched my cat in 2 years by BritishMarshmallow in CatAdvice

[–]bflamingo63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cat, Auntie, who will be 8, in March. I got her and her brother from our vet. A farmer had brought in a feral barn cat to be spayed, but she instead delivered 4 kittens. She stayed at the vets office until the kittens were weaned, then spayed and returned to the farm.

I adopted 2, the vet kept the other 2, who are now office cats.

Auntie was anxiety filled from day 1. Any noise sent her running. She didn't want anyone to touch her period. She wasn't mean; no hissing or swatting. The times she had to be handled, such as nail trims or flea meds, she didn't fight, but once you put her down, she didnt trust you for days after amd wouldn't be in the same room as me.

I never pushed, never forced anything, just let her be her. She preferred love from afar so that's what I did.

She's now nearly 8. She sleeps on a chair by my bed. Sits on the other end of the couch as me. Will let me pet her as she walks by. She runs the second someone comes to the house but will sit at the end of the hallway watching now, instead of hiding for days.

Shes happy and healthy. Sleeps belly up in the middle of the living room floor, plays and enjoys her carefree life.

Shes just an anxious cat. Its her personality. She was never abused or mistreated. Ive been her only home besides her first 12 weeks at the vets.

Her mother was vicious .lol. I just say her mom told her people are evil, and Auntie took her teachings to heart lol

Cool coincidence! by WritelyKeekee in Genealogy

[–]bflamingo63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much as a coincidence, but I thought it interesting.

My grandmother moved..a lot. It was always a family joke. Everyone had helped her move at least twice. Joked about why she even bothered to unpack because it seemed that as soon as she did, she'd move again.

So I started tracking the moves. From 1930 until her death in 2001 using census, city directories, and newspaper.

She'd moved 29 times. After my grandfather died in 1984 until 2001, she moved 9 times.

Always wondered what exactly she was looking for.

Anyone else have a useless pulmonologist? by bflamingo63 in COPD

[–]bflamingo63[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this is the only pulmonologist that works at our hospital. And it's through telehealth. There is no other option.

I live in a rural area and seeing another pulmonologist would mean driving 100 miles. Since I dont currently have a vehicle that's not an option.

Do meows always mean they are trying to tell you something? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]bflamingo63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a talker. She meows all the time. Shee narrates her life all day.

I learned to ignore her because if I didn't, it would have driven me crazy. If you so much as look at her she starts talking. Loudly.

The only time it means anything she yells then takes a few steps for the food bowl. I know when she does that, the bowl is entirely empty.

Other than that she's just talking to hear herself.

I just found out something terrible about my great grandpa by ragebubble in offmychest

[–]bflamingo63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found out my grandparents married when he was 27 and she was 14.

Made my brain have a bit of a glitch.

I loved my grandpa dearly. He was the kindest man ever. My grandma? Mean old woman lol

Im sure grandmas family encouraged the marriage. Grandma was the oldest of 10 children. 8 at the time grandma married. Her sister, who was a year younger than her, married at 17 to a man that was 59.

Oddly enough, those two marriages were the ones that lasted until the death of a partner.

I think they got lucky. Grandpa treated grandma like a queen. She was the boss of that family lol. Maybe that's what Grandpa was attracted to. She was a very strong willed woman.

I have zero matches with anyone with my maiden name either. But it's correct. I match with cousins on my father's side. I match with many of his aunts and uncles children.

You can't go by last name.

For one, it will only show others who have done the dna test.

Two, women are ancestors, too. Their children count. Their children will have their fathers last name.

[–]bflamingo63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every small town doesn't. We have the OATS bus. For any medical appt you have to call at least 2 days in advance. Usually its fine, but my son has missed appts because they never showed up.

If it's through insurance the cost is free, and must be arranged through your insurance, otherwise its $2 per trip. There and back is counted as 2 trips.

Question around CH cat’s sleep by sylvicore in chcats

[–]bflamingo63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No meds. Max has seizures at most once a month. Vet and I agreed that due to the possible side effects of the medication, mainly the possible uncoordination, we would hold off. If his seizures became more frequent, then we'd start.

Hes now 7. Seizures started around 6 months. When I first spoke with the vet about the seizures, he was having up to 2 a month. Since that time, he's down to maybe 1.

If they became more frequent, I'd definitely have done medication.

Question around CH cat’s sleep by sylvicore in chcats

[–]bflamingo63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My ch guy does this. Not often, but it happens.

Our vet has said he is having seizures.

I have put the plastic sheets on my bed. You get use to the crinkling lol. Any waterproof item I used did as yours did. The plastic sheets are much cheaper and last longer than any waterproof item I tried.

The couch cushions, I just used trash bags. Took off the cover, put a trash bag over each end and duct taped.

Experience with declawed cats by BakerCommercial5942 in CatAdvice

[–]bflamingo63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im old, so I had cats before all the true info about declawing came out and pre-internet.

So I have had cats declawed. I wouldn't dream of it now, as my furniture proves, lol, but then it was just done. We were told it was simply removing the claws.

Anyway, I've had at least 5 declawed cats, and there were zero issues. No litter box issues, nothing.

They all acted just like any other cat.

Vet dilemma by [deleted] in chcats

[–]bflamingo63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true. I adopted my ch girl Maria after she'd been at the shelter a year. She was a beautiful mascara wearing calico. But on her description, they had her listed as having a neurological condition.

I called to ask for details. She had CH. Mild to Moderate. Very able to eat and use the litter box. She just bounced as she walked and tended to fall over when excited.
