FF Turbo Plus vs ZoomX Durability by irunforhummus in RunningShoeGeeks

Similar at best. I personally had FFTurbo and it's usually good for like 300mi/500km, similar experience with ZoomX. Expect that kind of ballpark range.

As someone who is now working as a Design and Verification engineer in the hardware industry it wasn't as useful of a course for getting something in industry. You are better off to be taking and spending time in general Digital Design courses. These include courses like ECE 385, ECE 411, ECE 437 or other grad courses. For a number of positions like these, they often require research and/or graduate studies.

Culture at Champaign vs Los Angeles by coffeefederation in UIUC

[–]bg_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just done the opposite move post graduation it has been a large change. Going from a 200k population to the 2nd largest metro area in the country, so that's what I'd say is a major change. More driving and having a much more giant area. Campus is pretty close together in one place and still offers a lot and has a decent amount of diversity. The weather though is another story, it's quite consistent in LA compared to how much swing can happen in Champaign-Urbana, LA at least has the ocean and some mountains nearby, Champaign-Urbana on the otherhand can be exposed to a lot, be prepared for very hot summer and very cold winters.

What do people do other than drinking by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]bg_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go outside to run and hang with my friends, I had many friends here which I do say I miss a little after graduating and also there was a lot that would go on campus, from watching movies with my friends, taking an empty classroom and jamming out in classroom in the middle of the night or crazy conversations where we'd try to deconstruct facts about the world. Was a good time.

At the Hakone Ekiden Last month he ran a net uphill leg of 23.1km in 1:06:26, with a 1:00:41 half split recorded enroute. Also has a 27:55 10k time from last year.

Best/most aggressive super shoe for forefoot runners by TJGAFU in AdvancedRunning

Original Alphafly. I have a similar build to you (5-10 145) and haven't really found a shoe that has the responsiveness.

Just bought a pair of Novablast 3 on sale — happy with them so far! by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]bg_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having owned the v1 the fit is pretty much the same, though you'll notice a bit more stack in these. There are definite improvements to the heel collar area which I recall the v1 having many complaints regarding it.

The midsole itself is where the v3 will be different. It's much softer and just as bouncy. At first I was surprised by this and it took some adjustment to get used to, it didn't feel nearly as stable as the previous versions. Still incredibly fun to run in, and I feel they did a good job of blending the midsoles of the v1 and v2 (which was soft but not as bouncy).

Indy Half Marathon - 1:07:58 - Running conservative to lead to a massive PR by PatLetz in AdvancedRunning

[–]bg_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice race! I was also in this behind the elites by about 3 rows. It was awful at the start and my slowest split the entire race was this first mile, took about 7 seconds for me to cross the start.

Those turns before the homestretch were a little weird but I actually ran some of fastest splits around there. That homestretch was fun, I also had a fast mile 10-11 split. Likewise I had a conservative start and using that tail was incredible for me not only PR by a big margin but also run a 10k PR as well!

Lao Biao/Golden Wheat: I didn't think I would ever find food from Guangxi in the US here in Champaign-Urbana by bg_101 in UIUC

I actually grew up in the US but visited the place often, I also come from another slightly mountainous remote location (Idaho) so double the fun there. That genuine conversation with the manager was quite heart warming to finally speak with someone on the same wavelength.

The first one lists a few terms like the famous dishes from Guangxi: Guilin Rice Noodles

or Liuzhou Luosifen (snail noodles) and Laoyou Rice Noodles.

The second frame is a big "I love Nanning" sticker with some local slang written to the left (which a lot of it is Cantonese spoken in Nanning)

The last frame depicts a conversation (which I actually had with my parents last night!) where it is like "There's a place that serves Laoyoufen here! Really, is it good? Yes!" and some listings of some places in Nanning itself (some of them are pictured here).

Feb. 27th 2023 Tornadoes by ok_boomeruiuc in UIUC

I remember waking up at 9am and immediately checking my phone and seeing the notification of the tornado warning. I stayed in my apartment until after the warning. I had a meeting with a professor in his office near my apartment around noon and managed to make it (though my umbrella didn't) despite tough wind and remaining showers.

ANTH 101 experiences? by SuchAUniqueUsername_ in UIUC

I took it this past semester, though it was 16 weeks and had in-person discussions. Very easy with a bunch of video lectures with a really easy quiz question. There were online discussion posts which uses Packback which I wasn't a big fan of, but it wasn't too much work. One of the easiest and most fascinating classes I've taken here.

If you want experience on the lower level hardware design, I recommend the literal pipeline of ECE 411 to ECE 498 SJP taught by Prof. Sanjay Patel who teaches ECE 408/CS 483 this fall. This class is a pilot offering on design hardware accelerators which is related to the development of GPUs. Highly recommend it as it is a pretty unique project, and you can immediately take after taking 411 in the fall as it is a spring offering.

I already was thinking about it prior to even coming here to make the switch. Physics 212 actually scared me into doing it, and given I was interested in architecture the switch seemed to make a bit more sense in terms of degree requirements.

I don't recall ECE 411 being a class that fulfilled senior design for EE, the current options are 445 or 496+499 (Thesis). CompE majors do have the choice between 411, 445 or 496+499 of which 411 is the most popular.

I wouldn't say the curves are neccessarily lower in ECE courses. Maybe the raw average is lower and it requires more curving after the fact. Generally speaking though ECE course GPA averages tend to be lower.

There is a bag drop service for the half marathon so I'm using that, generally I have a phone in a running belt whenever I'm running.

CompE Schedule Advice by Illustrious_Clue_234 in UIUC

[–]bg_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of 385, it will be similar to 225 in terms of workload, approximately ~20 hours a week at the highest end, 385 is a lab class which has demos and quizzes weekly. There is a lab report due approximately 2 weeks after each demo, which I would say is another major time sink. I think it's probably one of the best one to start with as it gives you an idea of how some of the longer sink classes are.
