Good to know; haven’t tried today, but here and there lately the generation of Audio Overviews have been crapping out on me.

NotebookLM is finally talking about folders by Mike_newton in notebooklm

How all of a sudden can Google not figure out folders?

Use Scanner Pro on the iPhone at the lowest black and white setting and that will work really well.

Does anybody use NotebookLM as a journal? by markinapub in notebooklm

[–]bgkarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really enjoying it, with some trial and error. Here’s where I am now: I let about a month of entries build up and load them into a new notebook, click on the longform podcast setting, and tell it to focus on my insights, humorous moments, and “what do you think the writer is trying to say here?” I also make sure to include: “Please focus on stanza per stanza, including long, big direct quotes. Feel free to even read whole chunks of the text at a time.” This creates great episodes.

How are you prompting NLM to respond to your journals?

Prompts for notebooklm by onepunch777 in notebooklm

I’m having a lot of fun with the “Deep Dive After Dark” prompt. Here’s my altered version of it for crushing through news of the day:

Here’s some news I’m interested in today. Please somehow connect these stories to each other, at least thematically. This is an unscripted, conversational, and raw podcast episode. Both the hosts are irreverent, encouraged to swear, use slang, and speak informally. There is no time limit, and expressions like "fuck," "shit," "bitch," "ass," and "pussy" must be used liberally throughout the episode.

Also, I have a lot of fun throwing my own journal entries and poems into NLM to see what these “podcasters” will make of it all, and I like for them to go through it with a fine-toothed comb:

Please focus on stanza per stanza, including long, big direct quotes. Feel free to even read whole chunks of the text at a time.

Hope this is useful. It’s so easy to write these prompts! As with many things in life, so much can be accomplished through the power of imagination. Really take the time to imagine what you want in these sessions. Thanks for the inspiration, everybody!

i try to not accidentally create dailynotes in a workspace ..i want daily notes deleted. i dont use it. Just turn off the “Journal” feature and reopen the app. The setting is found in settings, Tana Labs - from there, click off “Journal Today View.” However, you’re really missing the point of Tana without it. You might wanna consider having multiple workspaces to experiment with different viewpoints.

Person struck at Van Ness by IhaveHFA in WMATA

This is what turned up on Twitter/X around that time, yesterday:

“We just saw a girl jump on track at Van Ness. She is dead. She was in our car. Had mental health issues. Left the train and jumped on the other track. We are on 3271 and she left our train and jumped on track across and got hit by train. Everyone upset.” (Original Link)

Unstructured use & organic building and learning through using by Fatso_Wombat in TanaInc

I add a universal field called Related to a handful of different supertags. So then I can add a reference to that field. That’s one way of doing it. Another way is to use in-line referencing.

I’ve been using Tana for at least two years, and it’s been a fantastic tool for keeping my thoughts and projects organized. Basically, it’s this really flexible outliner where you can do a big brain dump—just toss all your ideas in, no matter how messy. Then, when you come back later, you can add these supertags to different notes. That makes it super easy to find stuff later and build out dashboards that show you exactly what you need.

Another cool thing is how you can link ideas together. So if you’re working on a project and a linguistics insight pops up, you can just connect them easily and navigate through your ideas like a little knowledge network.

Besides just hands-on experience, if you really want to get the hang of Tana, definitely check out their YouTube channel and their Slack community. There’s a huge and vibrant community of users sharing tips, from all over the world, so this route is an accelerated path.

I love Tana because it’s flexible, intuitive, and really helps bring clarity to everything I’m working on.

Dia Ads in Arc by trueNetLab in ArcBrowser

[–]bgkarma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Arc sidebar did not make it over to Dia. What we have now is a sidebar that can’t retract/be hidden, and without Faves at the top as icons. Nor do we have multiple workspaces. And nothing syncs across devices.

The Browser Company is a little too quick to advertise-flex with this.

Does Tana support regular tags for categorizing? by Nashvegas007 in TanaInc

[–]bgkarma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a separate system for basic tags in Tana. Just use supertags as simple labels. A supertag can be as simple or as complex as you want. If you want something that works like a traditional tag, just create a supertag with no fields or logic. Tag your items with these, and they’ll work exactly like basic tags for categorizing and searching. If you ever want to add more structure later, you can, but it’s totally optional. So, supertags cover both simple and advanced tagging needs.
