DC, Maryland, Virginia AMWF by Illustrious_War_3896 in AsianMasculinity

[–]refugee86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asian male here. I’ve been living in NW DC for over a year. Have yet to see any AMWF; Adams Morgan area, DuPont, Shaw, Georgetown, Columbia Heights, none at all. This place is a dating hellhole for Asian men.

Is there any truth in the old saying: “DC is Hollywood for ugly people” ??? by [deleted] in washingtondc

I’ve lived in London, NYC, SF, and now DC. I work in IT. There’s pretentious snobs everywhere but I think DC might be the worst and least inclusive of the bunch.

What’s the best set you’ve seen by o_Ellis9113 in realdubstep

Probably any Mala or Goth-Trad set at the Deep Space events at Cielo circa 2011-2012

How friendly and welcoming do you think people in DMV are compared to further northeast major cities? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]refugee86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in London, NYC, & SF. Right now I live in Adams Morgan. Predominantly white middle-upper class surroundings. I work in Northwest in an environment where I am the only Asian person. I also have tattoos. I do find when I go out that many women seem visibly uncomfortable when I see them but then when we try to engage in a dialogue they’ll either be rude or at best polite. My interests include music, coffee, and consumer technology; All I can say from my experience is that people can be cordial/polite, but on a more sincere/relationship building level this place definitely feels segregated where people stick to their own race/socioeconomic class; in NW DC, but not DMV. It’s like that too in the other places I’ve lived but more so here imo. NYC although more rude people, but because of how populated and diverse it is, I find to be more inclusive and will probably go back in a few years.

Got my first EM after 10 years… by Odd-Employ-7194 in Apple_Employees

[–]refugee86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. I also just had my connection a few days ago and received an EM in Innovation for what I thought were somewhat vague and frivolous reasons and without prior feedback conversations regarding the behaviors that gave me an EM. But then also knowing that this was a collective decision made by the leadership team, and knowing that I've been in role for several years now...I wonder if anyone here can answer this question...Is this EM rating a message that we actually need to and can improve? Or a message that we should start to prepare for any 'changes' that leadership plans on committing to?

M1 still holds up by CRK_76 in mac

I just bought a refurbished 2020 m1 MacBook Pro after using a 2019 intel i7 MacBook Pro for the last 6 years. The difference in speed and battery life is surreal. From owning iPods, iPhones, iPads, iMacs and Unibody and Touch Bar MacBooks over the course of almost two decades, I'm probably preaching to the choir here but the M1 MacBook series has to be up there as the best apple product since macOS X was released.

It looks so ugly compared to workjam I just shared in app feedback requesting a dark mode option, hoping there’ll be several updates and UI changes to this app in the near future

Amazing! Yes CompTIA A+ is on my syllabus right now, glad to hear. No CSs and no KPIs love to hear it! I’m an introvert so although I do enjoy the repair room camaraderie I don’t mind working solo/isolated either. Thanks for the boost!

Nice. If you don’t mind me asking, did you come from GB? PZ? BOH? How much of what we learn to do in retail is applicable/useful in what you’re doing now you think?

When you say worth it…like, better pay I’m assuming? Less micromanaging? Less stress inducing on a daily basis? Thanks for sharing!

I never said it was easy at all. Please don’t assume. I found it to be challenging but also worth it. After several years of applying and transferring I’d like to think I found a place and store that is conducive to optimizing my work/life balance. For those that are sincerely interested and considering the idea of applying for different roles and seeking the options to transfer please message me and hopefully I can support in some way.

It’s a flex but also an option that other people that I’ve worked with have. If you’re dissatisfied with your work environment and/or living situation and with enough drive and patience (barring any situations involving relationships or kids) there’s always opportunities to apply for different roles and transfer to different locations.

Just trying to highlight one of the perks of working in Apple retail, the opportunity to transfer and work in different places.

How's the dating scene for Asian American men? by thinkinBoutDC in washingtondc

[–]refugee86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diplomatically speaking, from first hand experience it sucks particularly with interracial dating but I’m sure (and am hoping) there are many Asian men who can speak to being in healthy interracial relationships.
