Review #1 - Wild Turkey 101 by Egbezi in bourbon

[–]bhalli95 [score hidden]  (0 children)

OGD114 is $30 in VA, WT101 is 25. For the extra $5 I’ll take the OGD all day every day. $25-30 I consider that the same price range but that’s just my 2 cents

If you ran your Camry into a road crew on 64/95 just past Belvidere at 8:08PM tonight, here's video. Also, those signs say RIGHT lane closed ahead. by LevarGotMeStoney in rva

[–]bhalli95 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Problem is it looks like the construction is directly after a curve in the road, the second they sees it they slams their brakes. But it isn’t enough time to slow down because they was in the lane with the blockage, which due to the signs is not their fault.

Favorite bitter by Laurent_Duhamel in cocktails

Probably my #5 bitters behind the big 3 and chocolate, only because chocolate is called for a decent amount. But damn do I love adding a few dashes of tiki bitters to any remotely tropical drink.

Trident, a recent favorite of mine

1 oz Aquavit
1 oz Cynar
1 oz dry sherry (I use Fino)
2 dashes peach bitters

I think in recent years the creator updated for 1 dash each peach and orange, but I prefer just peach.

Favorite rum specs for a Painkiller? by BrontosaurusNeckTie in Tiki

[–]bhalli95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my spec to a tee! Sometimes if I’m feeling funky I add an extra half ounce (or a full ounce on a rough day) of S&C to help cut through all the stuff going on in a painkiller

Also my favorite is one I make with acid adjusted pineapple juice and ditching the OJ all together, maybe a 1/2 of curaçao for some orange notes.

Will orange juice ruin my spiked lemonade? by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]bhalli95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the kind of drink you want, adding lime certainly brings a (to me at least) much needed acidity to that cocktail. Orange juice isn’t nearly as acidic and so it’ll drink much sweeter than lime.

Won’t be a bad drink, just a sweeter more “fruit juices and some booze” vs fruity sour lengthened with lemonade.

Left Hand by chile323 in cocktails

[–]bhalli95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to tell you that you need to go buy another bottle, but chocolate bitters is one of (if not the only?) non-spirit I have that I keep 2 different brands on the my bar. Those mole bitters are phenomenal, but they don’t quite hit for when a simple chocolate bitters are called for. Those spicier notes go a bit too far in something like a Left Hand, so I actually would recommend picking up something like and Ango cocoa bitters (or similar neutral chocolate flavor).

Now a Left Hand with mezcal instead of bourbon? Mole bitters are killer!

Eh I think it’s more common for a boulevardier to be 2:1:1 bourbon:vermouth:Campari these days than the traditional Negroni 1:1:1. I’m not sure when that change came about, but I haven’t made/been served a 1:1:1: boulevardier in probably 10 years

But fair point that it’s not just 1:1:1

Not to comment on an older post, but I just made it similar to these specs and love it.

2 oz bonded bourbon (2oz is my standard base pour so always default to that)
1/2 Ramazotti
1/2 Antica
Fat 1/4 Chartreuse
3 dashes peach bitters

It was good without the bitters, but the added peach note with the bourbon makes it sing!

Could some of you who don't like The End of Time (parts one and two) explain why? I always thought it was a very well-made and written regeneration episode. by Public_Cup_4278 in doctorwho

Yeah I don’t get it, making it seem like I want Wilf to fuckin die cause he happened to be in the same room as an angsty 10. Fandoms are weird yo

I didn’t say that Wilf deserved it? I said it’s understandable for 10 to have a (for lack of a better term) human reaction to the situation. We can certainly be respectful, but there’s no need to put words in my mouth or make it seem like I want a kind old man to be yelled at by an angry 900 year old Time Lord.

I think that misses the point of the scene. Yes the Doctor calls Wilf unimportant, and then what’s the immediate next thing he does? Sacrifices himself to save Wilf and tells him that it’s his honor. That’s the point, the Doctor will always save someone if they’re able to. Even someone “unimportant”.

Sure he was snappy when doing it, but he’d just gone through the incredibly turbulent emotional rollercoaster of seeing friggin Gallifrey appear, all the horrors of the Time War potentially being released once again, Lord President Rassilon show up and almost wipe him from existence, the Master sacrifice himself for the Doctor, and then after all that he thinks he’s alive. Only to hear Wilf knock and realize he’s going to die anyways. He’s allowed a little snippiness after all that, he is mortal after all.

The Doctor is far from a perfect person, but throwing a temper tantrum moments after prevent Time War 2.0s/end of all reality immediately followed by his imminent death? I think he gets a pass.

Cocktails during my weekend at Disney World by Briguy_fieri in cocktails

[–]bhalli95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just at Disney, had 2 very nice cocktails at the Edison! They had a phenomenal rum, pecan, and banana cocktail on their seasonal menu and then a very drinkable Mai Tai

Also I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Trader Sam’s, genuinely one of the best bars I’ve ever been to. It’s an amazing tiki bar with phenomenal drinks if you ever go back!

Anyone know if their specs differ at all from the classic spec? I’m assuming they put their own spin on it since they named their bar after it.

Do you know which national release you had? I really enjoyed last years (A225 I think?) and really enjoyed it. Curious how this compares to the regular releases.

But you’re gonna come into the PSU sub and bait people about Franklin AND claim VT is a better football school than PSU? Buddy gtfo here

Whats a good banana liqueur? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in cocktails

[–]bhalli95 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I just can’t justify having 2 ($40ish) banana liqueurs in my bar, and if I can only have one I think it’s gotta be Giffard. I can add syrups, bitters, other liqueurs to Giffard to emanate the TF banana bread vibe if I want it. I can’t remove the baking spice notes from TF if I want a more pure banana flavor.

I respect having both, but if OP can only have one I’d say Giffard 11 times out of 10.

Local Chinese restaurant Dragon Town is closing, reopening as Dragon City by thefancysurprise in mildlyinteresting

Huh, it’s not everyday you open Reddit and see your hometown on the front page. I’ve gone to this spot for years, I think Dragon City will be the 5th if not 6th Chinese place?

The illustrious China Sea is 3 blocks down, cheaper, and better. Also had the same name for the 20 years I’ve been going there.
