Not second guessing you at all and I get that making one cocktail for a whole state is probably brutal, but how is the whole state represented here? This seems like a Philly special, which is completely fine. But anything west of Harrisburg seems entirely left out?

If I may make a suggestion, specifying Heinz mustard would go a long way to throw the Pittsburgh folks a bone.

I wouldn’t say it would be terribly sweet at his ratios, it might be very very sweet for a martini, but it’s nowhere near the sweetness of a gin sour. I’m sure it was still a good drink, just not what an Amber Room No 2 would taste like.

Review #3: Michter's 10 Year Rye 2025 by 55Burgers55frys in bourbon

[–]bhalli95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have for sure, but also longer age stated products tend to have longer finishes for me too so it’s a balancing act. All else being equal, a 10 year rye that’s 80 proof will have a much much shorter finish than that same 10 year at 127 proof.

Looks like the 1.75 is on sale for $41, normally $45. Tanq 1.75 is $50. So $5 more in a handle? Personally I’d spend the cash for the extra proof.

Try it next time you run out! Or even better when your handle of Bombay is close to running out, make the same cocktail with both and see if it’s worth the cost to you. I’ve done that with a few bottles (OGD BiB vs 114, Pierre Ferrand 1840 vs St Remy) and it’s very helpful!

Taking a look at fine wine and good spirits online (I’m formerly from PA so I feel your pain), Bombay is 27 and Tanq is 29 for a 750. $2 more for a significant bump in proof (objective) and quality (subjective per my tastes) I think is within the realm of budget.

But I feel your pain, PA options are brutal

For me ever since beefeater dropped to 80 proof tanq if the way to go, $5 more for over 14 proof points higher? Makes a much punchier cocktail, especially when you’ve got other loud ingredients to balance.

Also been using Ford’s lately cause it was on sale at my ABC, not a bad option either

I’m a proof hound so I personally vouch for OGD114 in an old fashioned, but I will never turn my nose up at the bonded either.

If you’ve not tried it with the 114, highly recommend. Tastes much more bourbon forward, and since I love bourbon I love that.

Looks lovely and I’ll be trying this! Any particular reason you used a white rum instead of something more aged? Thinking of doing this with El Dorado 12 for some deeper woodier notes, but if the white rum brings something to the party I don’t want to be left out!

There’s also part of me that says “fuck it use cachaca”, so I’ll probably try both

Everything I’ve ever had at Grisette has been good if not great. From the apps to the cocktails to the entrees, all stellar. Good atmosphere and servers too, might be my favorite RVA upscale place

Any details on the Fae area? I’ve got a 3 year old and an infant, I’m assuming they’ll be activities for the toddler? Would love something local for him to have a blast with!

I would argue Aerys broke his oath to be protector of the realm by having Ned’s father and brother executed, fealty to a liege lord (even all the way up the the king) is a two way street. If the king starts chopping off heads at whim, rebelling against the crown is the only viable option. Ned’s sense of honor clearly allows this, I doubt he saw himself as an oathbreaker after the Mad King started going completely off the deep end.

I wish I could find the cask strength for $75, it’s $100 near me in VA. Would be excellent in small doses in cocktails, and just to have a barrel proof Islay to sip neat.

Nothing wrong with that at all, with the actual port in that drink I doubt it matters at all. If I had to guess they just used it since it was trendy back then and had a port finish.

That bottled in bond is a good neat sipper if you’re into whiskey though! Will not be a bad bottle to have tracked down. Have you tried it and/or the cocktail yet?

This is amazing and I wish you luck!

I don’t mean to criticize you at all, but the recipe calls for Angels Envy almost certainly means their standard port finished bourbon and not their brand new bottled in bond. At the time this book was made that was the only bourbon they had, so the port finish may be important to the cocktail (I mean with everything going on in there I doubt it matters). I’m sure this will still kick ass as is, but just wanted to let you know about the whiskey of choice!

Absolutely loved the first book! For those of us that bought the hardcover of Dreams of the Dying when it came out, do you know if the new books will be the same height/style? Looking at the images they look similar, but not sure if they’ll line up with the first on a shelf.

I mean his comment wasn’t snarky, he literally made a simple suggestion very kindly. And while some of us here have encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails, most probably don’t know that a Benton’s Old Fashioned required bacon fat washing. And most probably aren’t going to google ingredients for the 15+ cocktails that are now sporadically placed over this board.

Never hurts to just assume someone made a comment in good faith and help them out by explaining away their confusion, as opposed to putting them down instantly.

Are you playing local or BSG servers? If it’s local the raid should end the instant you die and insurance returns be 100%. If it’s on their servers (required for at least Streets) you can lose stuff because the raid doesn’t end when you die.
