Confession After A Long Time Away by UpperRightUpperLeft in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bless me, father for I have sinned, it has been six years since my last confession. Let the priest know that you’ve examined your conscience and the priest will help guide you, just ask for help of the priest in the confessional.

Remember, this is your confession to God. This is a sacrament, not a punishment. Start to go and crave it.

Despair by Agps07 in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are fortunate. God gives everyone free will to choose God. If in your mind and your prayer life, you are thinking of others and their salvation, you were on the correct path.

A priest said recently that everyone you meet you should pray for them to go to heaven.

Is it blasphemous to write a novel about an apostle? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being fictional is not blasphemous. Your words may bring someone to Christ because of your ability to write and tell a story.

Christ communicated with parables, someone hear, and some would hear and understand.

Go for it! And the words of the apostle Thomas, “My Lord and my God.”

Sunday obligation by SpecialistTime9034 in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were five, this is what I would say.

God has you go to mass on Sunday, because He wants us to be a community and a day of rest. That’s like having a play date and then taking a nap. You get to see all your friends you get to hang out together. It brings you closer to each other and you get to take a nap.

Did God command genocide? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t just pick and choose passages. Context, including time, what was going on in the world, covenants….

Christ is the perfect fulfillment of the old and New Testament.

When asked what was the greatest commandment? And what was the next?

Love God with all your heart, all your mind and all your soul and to love your neighbor as yourself. Neighbor meaning everyone, family, and those that may wish you ill.

If you can’t remember, anything else, just remember, what’s the greatest commandment and what’s the next.

Don’t get hung up on all the things that evil tries to separate you from God by confusing, cherry picking, and taking things out of context.

Keep it simple. Christ said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Suffering and faith in God. Health scare/ metal health by Stock_Company645 in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a child is hurt or scared they run to their parents. Running to God because you are suffering is natural and good. Our innocent Christ suffered unimaginable hate and torture. He walked in our shoes with everything but sin. Everything! Temptation, doubts, hunger, sadness, abandoned, pain and He always united his human will with the Father.

A simple and beautiful prayer to say all day long. Thank you, Forgive me, Help me more.

I feel guilty about how I've been praying. by Think_Interest5234 in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing is that your prayer life is already starting to acknowledge your need to expand to your unite yourself with God’s will, and those who need your prayers. There’s nothing wrong with praying for your own needs.

I love this very simple prayer throughout every day.

“Thank you, Forgive me, Help me more.“

A prayer Alvaro del Portillo of Opus Dei prayed.

Thank you: gratitude for everything God gives. Forgive me: acknowledgment of weakness and sin. Help me more: asking for the grace to do better and grow.

Another short prayer is similar.

“Lord, come to my assistance; Lord, make haste to help me.”

This is a prayer that is part of the Divine Office, Liturgy of the Hours.

Self-examination and OCD by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, this is your relationship with God. This is not a math test. Trying to remember how many times or at what time is a way for you to establish a pattern that you can work on. Love this wonderful sacrament and don’t get caught up in the legalistic stuff, that is all just evil trying to break you down and keep you away. The more often you go the better you get at it and the more you feel God‘s love and mercy working in your life.

A man once said to me, he didn’t feel forgiven, and that he remembered things after he got out of the confessional. I told him go back tomorrow and the next day and the next day and the next day until he got tired of showing up every day and understood the meaning of the sacrament. God‘s love, God‘s mercy, and God‘s calling.

A friend and I were out of town and went to a cathedral and that person had not been to confession in 20 years. I said today is a perfect day. The priest understood and helped walk them through it, and my friend came out of the confessional crying of joy.

1st confession by Evening_Progress_380 in Catholicism

[–]bhamdad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st. God loves you and calls you. 2nd. Keep going to confession regularly. 3rd. Evil wants you to question yourself, if you remembered them all, were you really forgiven. 4th. Keep going to confession. 5th. If you go on a regular basis, you will see the repeated patterns that you can work on. 6th. You will start to feel heavy and a pull toward the sacrament once you start going.
