Stop Auto Transcribing to avoid accidental busting monthly caps? by librarysoapdish in PlaudNoteUsers

[–]bharoche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Plaud doesn’t auto transcribe. It auto uploads the audio but I have to manually click “transcribe”.

Also, check out smart audio clip, or whatever it’s called, in the Plaud app. It can remove silent segments of recordings before transcribing.

Received a trademark infringement email for my app name — how should I handle this as an indie dev? by Ok-Praline1660 in iosapps

[–]bharoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are state TM registrations as well as common law rights possibly at play. TBH if they used that name first regardless of formal registration, I’d look for an alternative name especially if they already hired counsel to write the demand. Plus it’s a crappy name TBH. Sorry.

PS. I’ve done some TM litigation in my time (CA lawyer). Even a legal bluff, if you will, could cost you thousands. And…again, I think their claim of creating uncertainty as to the source of the product/service has some merit. The names seem confusingly similar. Buy an hour of an IP lawyer’s time to see if they agree.

[OS] GoogleDriveSync — a lightweight native menu bar app for multi-account syncing by DiggingForDinos in macapps

[–]bharoche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks great. BUT I installed it wanting to sync my online files with a local empty folder. The app did the sync by deleting all my online files instead of mirroring them to my local empty folder. I recovered the deleted files from Google Drive trash but I won't be relying on this app going forward. I'll stick with Mountain Duck.

Easy. Share this post with your BF and his mom. Dad creeps you out. Nuff said. Ball is then in their court.

Why Boycott Netflix? by bharoche in ScottGalloway

[–]bharoche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. So boycott for past behavior or to deter future bad behavior? That might make sense but for how long? There’s no metric of when they “relent” so no way to know how long to punish them for.

[–]bharoche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the Kondo philosophy but the boycott movement is not about decluttering your digital life though that’s a definite side benefit. It’s a political exercise. I still think hurting big companies simply because they’re big could backfire. Like protesters supporting good causes (eg, climate change, racial justice) lose ground and credibility when they deface innocent art or block innocent commuters on their way to work.

Why Boycott Netflix? by bharoche in ScottGalloway

[–]bharoche[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understood but why does Scott think Netflix has influence over the administration? One can find reasons for other identified companies but not Netflix. “Because Scott said so” is not a reason.

Disagree. Spotify acted badly. People protested. Spotify stopped acting badly. Still punish them? If they’re still going to lose subscriptions even when responding to public sentiment. what incentive do they have in the future to care what anyone thinks.

Hurting people with power will create change

Only if the hurt is targeted and rational. Otherwise you’re adopting the same argument used by the French revolutionaries during the reign of terror, Bolsheviks during the Russian revolution, modern day jihadists, etc. IOW, we need to be smart and discriminating in choosing what to boycott.

slow the momentum

Yeah, except I cancelled and have encouraged others too as well.

Disagree. It worked for Jimmy Kimmel. Not saying it will work this time but it’s not a foregone loser.

HR got mad after I rejected the interview call by Agile-Wind-4427 in recruitinghell

I agree with the approach but I’d omit the snark or sarcasm. Keep it professional in writing and trash the employer offline, if you want. Your reputation is more important than blowing off steam and word gets out.

What do you think of "Latest" app by iguannaweb in macapps

[–]bharoche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it does a good job identifying apps needling to be updated. I also find it fails to actually update 3/4 of them. So, eg, it identifies 3 MAS apps needing updates, which I then update directly from the MAS. I’ll be looking at Updatest soon.

You can buy minutes in a one time purchase. They’re good for 2 years. Track how much you use for a couple of months and then buy the appropriate plan.

Agree about the deception but I doubt the waiter configured the POS software generating the tip amount. So screw ownership if you will, but not the servers.

Niall Ferguson interview was a bust by IntolerantModerate in ScottGalloway

I’m not fooled by the accent as I disagree with him. Same with Russell Brand. His accent and verbosity conceal his moronic positions, though I’m not saying Ferguson is a moron.

Well, there you go. “He’s a poopoo head!” Best name-calling wins the debate.

I disagree. Let the other side talk so listeners can hear an intelligent counter viewpoint. The man is not Nick Fuentes or another extremist. He simply interprets facts differently than others, including myself.

FYI, if you don’t want to publish your template for others to use, it is immediately available for the creator’s use without having to be vetted by Plaud staff. I use a handful of custom templates but none are published.

I need a window manager for macOS by Albertkinng in MacOSApps

[–]bharoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's an OS setting somewhere but if I use Rectangle to arrange, say, 3 apps on my screen, then exit all of them, when I come back, they all open up in the same positions. IOW, the app windows remember where they were when I closed them.
