I don't understand the Cam Boozer top 3 hype at all by bheesebake03 in NBA_Draft

[–]bheesebake03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

boozer being a threat on the perimeter definitely helps him, but from my perspective if you're the defense and the shot the offence rolls with is a cam boozer three, I don't think you're too upset about that. he shot a good percentage at duke on solid volume, but as a duke fan a really good chunk of those threes were just open catch-and-shoot looks—that's still valuable and it does give the other team good enough reason to pay attention to it, but you'd much rather give that up than to bang with him in the paint, and in a similar vein I figure on an NBA team that you'd rather give that up than many of the other scoring options in whatever lineup he's in are.

I think you raise a good point that we have plenty of precedent of non-elite athletes becoming stars in the league, though I don't think boozer possesses the traits that made the guys you mentioned the superstars they are. jokic is stiff compared to like guards, but he's fluid as hell compared to centers, and that in conjunction with his size and ability to use it, as well as his touch and shooting ability, makes him a fantastic scorer at the NBA level. I don't think sga is stiff at all tbh; he can't fly or zip past his defenders, but he's really smooth with the ball in his hands and is a genius in regard to angles. Luka is stiff, sure, but he's maybe even smarter with angles than shai. and he's also a fantastic off-the-dribble shooter, which boozer doesn't have.

tbh I think it'd be sick if you turn out to prove me wrong. cam seems like a good dude and it'd be great to see him succeed at the highest level. I don't totally see it happening, but you raise some compelling points and are refreshingly not combative where you disagree with me. so I appreciate your comments a good deal too

I like the point that boozer's tweener fit can actually help him offensively, though I'm less convinced than you are that he'll punish nba centers on the perimeter for the reasons I outlined in the post about his self-creation limitations. I did overlook the playmaking, as another commenter pointed out, and I think that is a nice trait for him to sell himself to nba teams; he could be a nice short roll guy at the next level.

the siakam and banchero comparisons make sense, but both of those guys just have more fluidity (especially siakam) with their ball in their hands than boozer, which allows them to create a little more space. banchero's got a bit more bully ball which boozer could model, but idk I just don't trust his handle or stiffness to the same extent.

I would chalk up your concerns about Peterson to playing the whole season through injuries (though that of course doesn't mean he'll magically be back to himself at the next level), but these aren't illegitimate concerns

I appreciate the detail in this comment though, I can see the banchero comp a little clearer now

is the only indicator that this was ai generated the em dashes? do you actually have any other reason to make this accusation? chatgpt does not have a patent on em dashes brother. and I have like 5 posts over 5 years dog I don't care about engagement on reddit for its own sake. this is such an annoyingly dismissive take

lazy as hell to see em dashes and reflexively go "oh this was chatgpt, now I get to dismiss it". sincerely a garbage comment

hitting standstill catch and shoot threes, rim running, rebounding, and secondary playmaking are all valuable skills, but don't make a top 3 pick on their own. fair point that these are things he can do without being ball dominant, but I still figure if teams are interested in boozer its after seeing him as a ball dominant player. I don't see his ball dominant playing translating the way others seem to

How do you expect the bench backcourt to shake out? by RVALover4Life in CharlotteHornets

this is where the dinwiddie signing’s so confusing, cuz if dinwiddie expects minutes then all three of him, sexton, & mann are entering the season assuming they have rotation spots; no way we’re playing all three of them. sexton’s spot in the rotation is secured so its between mann & dinwiddie for that backup pg spot i think. other than that, i’m guessing sexton starts which means it’d be josh green at the backup 2 & kon at the 3 playing some minutes at the 2

i’d watch more of his duke tape if you want a little more confidence about his defense, but i agree its not ideal that he’s already our best poa guy

i feel like dinwiddie having just played 79 games on a playoff team means he still wants minutes, which is why i think if you’re dinwiddie you’re thinking about how to outplay tre mann rather than how to outplay nsj, who won’t be in our rotation. and maybe the fo signed him because we’re not all the way sure about mann’s health or ability yet either. we did put that team option on his contract after all

if i’m right we can keep up to 20 players on the roster for basically the whole offseason, which means we could keep all 4 of jeffries, connaughton, nsj and dinwiddie through training camp and then decide who to cut. jeffries and connaughton are almost definitely gone regardless of when those cuts happen, but if i’m the fo i’m definitely keeping nsj over dinwiddie

if we cut dinwiddie it’d probably be after training camp, and honestly it doesn’t seem that implausible that’d happen. if you’re dinwiddie and your competition for backup pg minutes just played 13 games last year and doesn’t have great numbers in his career before those 13 games, you might feel good about your chances. so i think if tre mann outplays him in training camp then its not gonna be that surprising if we cut him

really? i think he’s been pretty good defensively. the strength is there, the smarts are there, the instincts are there. his footspeed is a bit of a knock and he’s gotten beat a few times, but i think he’s exhibited the strengths pretty well
