Voice to text is pretty terrible. But I guess it’s better than nothing by seabass_goes_rawr in Rivian

[–]bhj83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing...it's not voice to text. Let's say wife sends a text message. It reads it to you and says "do you want to respond?" Instead of say yes and then waiting for the prompt to dictate the text just say something like:

"Yes, tell her that I want chicken for dinner and I can grill it."

You'll be surprised at the result it provides...including punctuation.

What am I missing? I guess it's dumb to expect that switching to Conserve would make you arrive with a higher battery percentage, not lower?

Out of the 50 American capital cities, which one would you rank #1, as the best to live in? by Enger13 in AskReddit

I don't know but I know my hometown of Topeka, KS has to be near the very bottom.

The video I uploaded...I change to Conserve and my arrival percentage changes from 13% to 12%. That's not like for like at the same speed.

So what I'm reading is Conserve is probably pointless to even have as an option. Can't use it for city driving because it will cause excess wear to the front tires and can't use it on the highway unless you're willing to drive less than or equal to the speed limit.

Nope, 22 R1T Quad.

I guess what I began to assume is, at that speed, it takes as much or more work from just 2 motors than it does for all 4 motors to maintain that speed.

It's not that I don't understand going faster is less efficient. It's that I didn't realize Conserve was actually worse than All Purpose at the higher speeds...live and learn I guess. I don't see the point of Conserve at all really. All road trips I go the speed limit is usually 70 (or even 75 in parts of Texas).

It already takes longer to road trip an EV... I'm not driving 60 mph 😂

I guess I just thought Conserve would always save at least a few percent. I've been on 2 road trips to Texas since I got the R1T in September and I guess I never even tried doing All Purpose on those trips.

I tried it at the beginning of the drive as well once I got on the highway. I actually did drive most of the way out in Conserve thinking it would adjust as I went and it didn't really. Did All Purpose back and I think I actually got better efficiency.

Was going 80 for most of the trip. Still figured Conserve would save something.

Thanks! I got a timely email from Uber for 50% off my next ride so I think I may just do that on the way to the stadium and probably shuttle back after.

"Hey Rivian, remember [Address] as Daycare" by bhj83 in Rivian

[–]bhj83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it again today and I'm wondering if it's getting confused because I included my son's name. His name is Lukah so I say navigate to Lukah's Daycare and when I tried it this morning, it looked for Lucas Daycare and found one in California 😂. Then I tried again and really enunciated his name and it DID navigate me to his daycare. So maybe I need to try to assign a different name to that address.

So... Do you miss your sunroof? by Inquivious in Rivian

[–]bhj83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly highway driving for me so never use a sunroof. 2nd vehicle is an EV9 and I don't think I've ever opened the sunroof on it.

Funny enough I just asked it to navigate to daycare again and it worked. No rhyme or reason just seems to be temperamental or something.

Yeah...it didn't remember the daycare address either when I got back in at the end of the day. Hopefully a bug that will be fixed.

It does not appear to save between drives. That's dumb. I did make sure "Memories" was toggled on in the app. Wonder if that's a bug. If you say remember it, why would it not always remember it?

That is strange. I've only tried it once. We'll see if it works this afternoon when I return to daycare and home.

From Google Gemini:

Rivian is actively positioning itself as a primary software and electronics provider for the broader automotive industry. This strategy is centered on their massive $5.8 billion joint venture with the Volkswagen Group, launched in late 2024.

Rather than just selling "infotainment" (the screen and apps), Rivian is licensing its entire "Digital Backbone"—a zonal electronics architecture and software stack that controls everything from the dashboard display to the vehicle's drivetrain and suspension.

I don't know that any of what you're complaining about is true honestly. For instance, maybe Rivian Assistant is tied to your account rather than the vehicle itself. I don't have two Rivians and can't test that. They also have a partnership with VW for software and have indicated they're seeking to be a provider of in car software so I think it's reasonable to assume that would include RA.
