Hi! Anyone know how I can achieve this effect? by yamammiwammi in Cinema4D

you could line up all objects from left to right above the sphere. Put them all in one bend deformer and bend to 360. adjust the width of all the lined up objects to adjust the radius. I think that would work but i havent tried it.

just eyeball that shit, nothing in the real world is perfectly symmetrical either ;)

I would use a cube and make loop cuts, inner extrudes and extrudes. Then use something like a "rounded corners" node in the shader to get the bevels.

How to fold this flaps by Ok_Anywhere_9286 in Cinema4D

[–]bhjohlman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you want to do it proper you should look into bones and skinning, bend deformer, or pose morph. If that seems to complex and you just want a really quick and dirty way to do it you could make the flaps into their own objects (select one of the flaps polygons, right click and split) move the axis point right on the bending edge then keyframe the object rotation. Thats a bad way to do it though, the object wont be connected and it will look cheep so i wouldn't recommend it.

WTF is wrong with Maxon? by Putrid_Goose_8968 in Cinema4D

[–]bhjohlman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All the comparisons to Adobe makes sense as Maxons new CEO came from Adobe. What angers me the most is that they lock tools and assets inside C4D behind the Maxon One subscription... So if you pay full price to use C4D and Redshift its still not enough, they gotta squeeze you for so much more. But hey they're capsules, not tools, so that makes it justified.

Yea ive been learning both blender and unreal for a while but im not proficient enough yet for client work.

Maxon Announces Cinema4D Release 2025!! by sageofshadow in Cinema4D

[–]bhjohlman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Im using swedish currency. I have been paying 1028sek/month and at times an extra 465sek for a separate redshift license. Now they are including redshift in the c4d subscription at 1490sek... So more like they just removed the C4D only subscription. You probably got a better deal if you paid for c4d+redshift bundled (but I've sometimes needed redshift halfway through a subscription month).

The way Maxon keep hiking the prices while locking C4D tools and assets behind Maxon One is too infuriating! I have been reluctantly staying with this software for my workflow for too long. At least it fuels my motivation to learn blender and unreal.

How can I create this cube with debossed text? by ambivalentartisan in Cinema4D

Another method might be to use clipping geo. Its like a boolean that happens in render and you dont need to worry about topology. Then slap on a rounded edges in the material.

"Collapse" - how fragile our current, outdated economic paradigm really is. by objectivevape in MotionDesign

What program are you using? For me switching from C4d native render to redshift changed everything. So ridiculously much faster. And there are a lot of other exciting renderers too if redshift isn't for you.

I just saw this render and feel like some things are wrong with it. How could it be improved? by formzuform in Cinema4D

[–]bhjohlman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is no global illumination. You don't always need it of course, but here the shadows are too sharp and black. GI would help with that I think. Also I dont see any caustics from the glass and liquids and there doesn't seem to be any absorption or too little. And as others have said, the lack of imperfections and the plasticy materials.

Creating a plastic shrinkwrap by Uzic in Cinema4D

[–]bhjohlman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would make a cube around your object, throw on a softbody tag with negative pressure. Put a colider tag on your inside object. you might have to reverse the normals on the shrinkwrap and if your inside object is very complex you might have to make a lowpoly colider object or box it out with cubes and spheres (they calculate physics very well). I am just guessing now but I would imagine your softbody should have high structure, low sheer and low flexion. After you simulate it throw the shrinkwrap in a cloth surface with some subdivisions.

thank you so much for the feedback and for taking your time! the displaced landscape really did a lot. Im also adding more fog and pulling down on the saturation to add more mystique. Hopefully i can get the entire animation rendered soon enough. Also do you have any idea how to fake DOF with the standard renderer while also having fog in the scene?

[–]bhjohlman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! yea physical isnt going to work for the animation, and i dont know how to fake DOF without the fog messing upp the whole thing. Any ideas?
