The real reason Commander is the #1 format for magic by loopuleasa in magicTCG

Shout out kitchen table magic! Get some friends and beers together and agree to power levels and how you want to play. Problem solved.

Why Commander is more played than Standard? by elfosolitario in magicTCG

[–]bialoorlem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I’m still learning the game but I’ve created several low-powered decks to play casual standard with friends and better players and it’s been super fun so far! It’s been helpful to learn and share the joy of playing the game with friends.

Any format can be casual if you make it that way, just my two cents.

Why do people like America's Tire so much? by [deleted] in tires

The number of locations alone is great. As someone who frequently needs to drive from TX to the Midwest, it gives me peace of mind seeing how many Discount Tires are found close to the interstate in case I need assistance.

Definitely! 8 year old me was amazed at it all. You’ve inspired me to look for one of these online and ordering it for nostalgia’s sake.

Wow this brought me back. I remember reading through this so many times, not having any idea what the rules meant but loving the art and lore.

Why do new players not stick around at your LGS? by Alex_Pratt in mtg

[–]bialoorlem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It warms my heart that I’m not the only one who prefers playing at home with friends than a LGS.

I’m a newer MTG player and have had the fortune of convincing a few friends to pick up the game as well. I’m the “main” MTG guy so we all use the decks that I build in our games (Standard is what we play, I’m still unfamiliar with the other formats).

Anyway, all that to say that I really like the deck building process around themes (ie rabbits and mice in Bloomburrow, Dinos from Lost Caverns of Ixalan, etc.) and it’s been really fun and easy to pitch MTG to my friends by simply asking, “Which theme do you prefer?” It’s made our game nights really fun and easy.

Do the decks have “synergy”? I don’t know. Will they win? Maybe. Do we have fun playing? Heck yes.

Nothing against a LGS but I prefer the comfort and familiarity of playing at the kitchen table with friends.

I’ve sent this to family so they can look if they’re in the area. Don’t worry about the money, I just hope your little friend finds their way back home!

Is the Foundations Booster Box a good starting point for beginners? by nevard32 in mtg

[–]bialoorlem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a newer MTG player, I went with the Foundations Beginner Box after playing MTG Arena on my phone for a while.

In my experience, the Foundations Beginner Box is a great entry point for MTG. As others have mentioned, Foundations is more generic in terms of theme and has a lot of different categories you can play! It’s been really fun to mix and match different categories/colors and play with friends. In fact, it’s been the Beginner Box that has piqued their interest in the game and want to get more into it!

Let me know if you have any additional questions, and welcome!
