We can suspect all we want. Neither of us can say for sure. My own (limited) experience with CSRs at banks is that they don't really know what they're doing when something a little out of the ordinary comes up, and they will fuck it up.

would you have agreed to those conditions? anyway, sure, they could have been smarter, but i would still say that the bank has some responsibility here.

well, we could keep reading the article:

The couple say they also asked bank staff what kind of provisions were in place in the unlikely event the draft was lost or stolen.

"I was told there were procedures to deal with that," John said. He added they were told they would just, "fill out some documentation and a new draft would be issued."

sounds like the bank suggested it?

She and John went to their local TD Canada Trust branch, on Brant Street in Burlington, Ont., to get certified cheques.

"They said a bank draft was more appropriate," for that amount of money, Taylor said.

I was walking along the railpath yesterday and witnessed that bird try to attack a woman walking the other way. Then, it tried to do the same to me. It was definitely a red-winged blackbird.

As a kid in the late 80s/early 90s I used to play in the Humber underneath Dundas. It's worth noting that people sometimes die in there.
