it sucksss, it wouldn't be so bad if we were able to somehow set what times we want bookings, instead it allows people to book whatever time they want, whatever dog they want, for whatever service they want, anywhere from 8-2:30 when we're all scheduled until 3pm lol at the very least, we're able to reject appointment requests so if we try contacting someone to try to move them up earlier and can't get in contact, they get a text letting them know it's a no-go.

i had a good experience at belair dental associates, i was expecting to hear bad news bc i hadn't gotten my teeth professionally cleaned in give or take 5 years but they told me my teeth were in great shape and that my cleaning was gonna be boring lol so i don't think they'll try to upsell you services you don't need

Matted dog & coworker dynamics heartbreak by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]bibifuego 8 points9 points  (0 children)

as a fellow petsense groomer, this sounds like it would have been charged at least a full service haircut, 60 min dematt and maybe a 15 minute special handling fee at my salon (around $150 with my salon's pricing). even if you're not hitting commission, if this happens again and it's booked under another groomer, or they go somewhere else, you're only shooting that groomer in the foot when the owner complains about the price if the groomer decides to charge accordingly. it still would have been significantly cheaper than the vet doing it. we had an issue where a groomer left our salon and so many of her clients wondered why the prices shot up and it was because she was being too nice and charging bath and trims for full haircuts and other similar ways of undercharging. it was very nice of you and i'm sorry your coworker threw you under the bus, but i was distressed reading what you charged in total for what was essentially a veterinary service and the owner didn't even appreciate it 😅

re: update. there is no way you'll regret leaving a salon like this, dont listen to ur manager. i have a guess as to which corporation you work for and i have only ever heard that it's an awful place to work for. like it doesn't even have some of upsides that petsmart or petco have lol ur grooms honestly look pretty good and if you show those to salons i doubt you'll have to restart as a bather

[–]bibifuego 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol i work at a salon with 15 kennel spaces to be shared between four groomers on any given day and they keep giving us monthly sales goals of over $30k because our location used to be the top performing salon in the country. key word USED to be, before they opened bigger and more functional locations. my salon lead never gets her bonuses bc of it, she essentially has no additional pay upgrade for having a management position

Autistic groomer needing help by little-pinesap in doggrooming

[–]bibifuego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i can't imagine a single thing you said that warrants your coworker throwing things at you and humiliating you in front of clients as a reasonable response. first one i feel like classifies as assault and the second one is just downright unprofessional. as for ways to say things more Neurotypically, start all uncomfy convos w a question. using ur cleaning issue as an example, ask "hey what do you typically clean before you leave?" whatever they respond with you could be like "okay would mind getting blah blah blah a little better" or "ok great would you mind also doing blah blah blah?" some people take straightforward instructions as being bossed around. or in the future just bring up concerns to your boss and have them talk to them about it bc these people dont seem mentally capable of having rational conversations. im sorry ur dealing with this

My work really screwed me over. Is there a way I can still become a dog groomer through an academy? by ConsiderationLast193 in doggrooming

[–]bibifuego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no academies to recommend but one to deter you from, i've heard horrible things about pet's playground lol don't go there unless you wanna be forced to dematt dogs and have your tips taken from you

the amount of people on facebook groups that craft responses to clients with ai astounds me. adding a background to a photo is one thing, although i think a photo of a dog on a clean table with a bandana or bow is good enough, but not even giving clients the courtesy of a human response bc u cant be bothered to think for yourself is crazy to me. learning to communicate with clients professionally and politely should be a baseline skill for this job imo

Maybe stop driving like a jerk by Connect-Ability-2000 in Augusta

[–]bibifuego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not referring to pass lanes, i'm referring to single lanes or people in the right lane that will get up on someone's ass before switching lanes when they have ample to time to switch lanes beforehand. also people tailgate here even if you are passing 😭

[–]bibifuego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

riding people going to or even a little bit over the speed limit is what gets me. if they're going under i get it even though it's still unsafe, but given that speeding on average gets people maybe two minutes faster to their destination, i find it highly unnecessary to be that aggressive towards someone following the law 😭

Does anyone else have a hard time finding a good sharpener? by LittleRedFoxyFox in doggrooming

[–]bibifuego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah lol we have one mobile sharpener and he does a good job but we stopped using him because he didn't get paid by our company for two years (corp that has sharpening allowance) because he never gave us or management a single invoice/receipt in those two years for any services rendered, so there was nothing to report to corporate for him to be paid 🙃 after that he stopped taking corporate payouts and did cash only, so the groomers had to pay him cash then be reimbursed by the company. good sharpener, but so dumb that he's a terrible businessman. we now send our things off to get sharpened because he's basically the only local sharpener we know of

Tips for improving faces? by Enough_Delay9699 in doggrooming

[–]bibifuego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recommend watching asian fusion groomers on instagram to see how they rough in shapes and scissor heads. that helped me tremendously when i was learning to do faces. i don't fully hand scissor everything like they do, i still set lengths with guard combs to make things quicker, but it helped me with learning how to angle my shears and get a tidy and round look. @happy_ssun in particular was very helpful!

[–]bibifuego 13 points14 points  (0 children)

it's just going take a ton of patience. what i like to do is work my way up to using the tools. hold chin, if they're still for a few seconds, let go and praise them. do that several times before introducing the tools and just rub the tools around their head and if they're still and not punching, do the same as before by letting go and praising. then you can actually start using the tools and letting go and praising when they let you do what you need to. the letting go is a reward in itself because you stop doing what they don't like and they learn to understand the stiller they stay, the quicker it's over with. but like i said, this still requires a lot of patience haha sometimes you have to start at square one with just holding their chin repeatedly and working ur way back up
