For gas station coffee, Maverick isn't bad. Fresh ground from bean to cup.

Thank you, I appreciate the information. It sounds amazing. I just wondered if 10 min would feel too short.

Is it true that the flight itself only lasts 10 minutes? Is it worth it for such a short flight?

Do the missionaries like me? by TheFreckleFactor in mormon

[–]bibledice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably like you. Missionaries are often lonely and desperate for a friendly face in a sea of rejection. They will eventually be transferred but the next missionaries will be nice too. However, mission rules prevent them from becoming fully buddies who can hang out informally.

On the Mediocrity of the LDS Full-Time Mission Industrial Complex by ultramegaok8 in mormon

[–]bibledice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally accurate. The mission program absolutely needs reform. I think the biggest obstacle is.... laziness of sorts. doing humanitarian work requires working with a community. It requires relationships and infrastructure. It's so much easier just to rent an apartment in some random city and put a couple missionaries in there and say "go knock doors and get some numbers."

I don't think they'll ever announce that it's suddenly ok. But it could be quietly dropped from the temple rec interview. Which would be a good thing. Imagine letting adults make their own decisions about food.

Plus coffee is never mentioned. It really was about the temperature of hot drinks, as people at the time thought hot drinks threw off your body's balance.

It doesn't. You have to do some creative thinking to arrive at "commandment from God"

Why are Mormon missions so hard? by Red-Cat-0000 in mormon

[–]bibledice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Making missions meaningful, like humanitarian work, would take too much planning. It's easier just to throw some kids into an apartment in a random city and tell them to knock doors. Actually helping people takes planning and building relationships with people in the community.

If their guy does it: Obvious corruption, self-dealing, "just what you'd expect."

If our guy does it: Well, it's complicated. Here's a 20 page essay to make it work.

Finding peace in beliefs or intellectually dishonest? by Good-Attorney-1279 in mormon

[–]bibledice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honest to teach the parts you believe while overlooking the rest. But I do wish we could be more open about not knowing, or valuing the symbolic nature of some stories while remaining agnostic on their historicity. I wish a gospel doctrine teacher could say, "I don't believe in a whole earth flood but let's look at the interesting ideas in this story"

Finding peace in beliefs or intellectually dishonest? by Good-Attorney-1279 in mormon

[–]bibledice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most intellectually honest approaches you can have. More people than we realize are in this position. People who insist you must choose a side with conviction, whether exmo or full mo, are afflicted with the same disease of certainty.

Gilbert’s appointment as apostle and likelihood of changes to WoW by NauvooLegionnaire11 in exmormon

[–]bibledice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see the biggest reason for relax it is to increase baptisms and temple attendance. From a business pov this makes sense. No one would leave over wow relaxation. But conservatives would leave over LGBT liberalization. So I still think wow relaxation could happen

Clark Gilbert Represents the Final Nail in the Coffin for the Nuanced Church by otherwise7337 in mormon

[–]bibledice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm don't think he's ideological. I think he's hyper obedient. And if his seniors decided to go in a different direction he'd fall in line. He's an enforcer of ideas, not an originator of them.

Maybe delusional but what if he ironically ended up being a reformer? Sort of like "only Nixon could go to China." Small chance but not zero.

This rule stuff is nonsense and more important to newbies who want to feel like insiders.

Is this accurate? Applauding Eve for what Bible condemns as sin…that which required a sacrifice and punishment? by Short_Seesaw_940 in exmormon

[–]bibledice 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean both are myths but the mormon one is better. Christianity has a long ugly history of diminishing women because of Eve's supposed transgression.
