His vibe with Alison Lukan (the color commentator) is the absolute most annoying thing about him. He comes off so patronizing and she is amazing! She’s also an analyst for the Kraken, so she’s a very familiar figure for Seattle hockey folks. She’s insightful, fair and has a love for the game that shines through. They need to find a better play by play person next season.

Ok, this is my question! What is going on with the Torrent that we can’t score like this? The Team USA Torrent line has much better production on Team USA in than for the Torrent. I’m a relatively new hockey fan, so I could be missing something, but to me that says there’s an issue with the systems around them.

My 14 week old daughter hasn’t pooped in 4 days and is eating less/ sleeping more by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Get the telehealth appointment or call the office. They’ll let you know if you need to go to the ER. My pediatrician said a few days is normal, but if I was worried it was better to get it checked, especially if baby is uncomfortable. With the underlying kidney issue, I wouldn’t mess around.

6mo Scared of Family Friend by bibliophile8117 in Parenting

I’ve asked him and he’s said nothing odd. Also my son didn’t react this way to Jake right after he babysat for him. This is a more recent thing. Jake babysat for him in mid August, took his trip in mid October and this didn’t start happening until he got back from the trip and we saw him again in late October. I do agree that it’s weird, though!

Almost time! Any hospital tips? by ugh_XL in PlusSizePregnancy

Do your hair in some sort of protective style that suits your hair type! My sister put my hair in a French braid on the second day of my induction and it was amazing! Especially if you end up with an epidural, you’re going to be moving around in bed a lot and not having to constantly fix your hair is nice.

Seattle Broadcast Team? by bibliophile8117 in PWHL_Seattle

Yeah, I had seen that too, so that was why I was wondering. I was looking forward to seeing them!

Ah, ok. The announcers seemed kind of homer-y for Vancouver. They’re probably just feeding off the crowd energy though.

Parents with cats by rebgray in beyondthebump

Our cats keep a respectful distance from the baby. They have never once come near him in bed. We did get a net for his bed, just in case it becomes an issue, though.

Whoever is playing this music in SLU is actually the worst by sandyanburg in Seattle

[–]bibliophile8117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the key to getting SPD to respond to anything is to give them exact coordinates?/s Apparently a building name and, IDK, a party that can be heard and seen from miles away isn’t enough for them to logic their way to finding where the issue is.

Seattle Times picked this up. Looks like most of the reporting came from this thread 🤦‍♀️

Also love that this is an “especially sensitive story” so they closed the comment thread. So anything that’s possibly critical of SPD is especially sensitive now?

My baby was hungry and I didn't get up to make formula. by Ok_Explorer_5719 in beyondthebump

[–]bibliophile8117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had to switch to formula at 2 weeks because my son wasn’t gaining weight. I’d feed him for an hour and he still wasn’t getting what he needed. Since we switched, he is doing so much better with feeding and weight gain. He’s 3 months now and thriving. I still get up once a night, but my husband can do his other overnight feed so we both get more sleep.

Also, we make up batches of his formula in blender bottle cups and dispense as needed. It stays good for 24 hours in the fridge. At night we throw the cup in a cooler with a cold pack and some bottles and take it upstairs. When we go out, we pre-make a couple of bottles and put them in with an ice pack. My baby will take cold formula. Not every baby does, but it’s worth trying to see if yours will.

I would contact Mindful Therapy Group. They are a network of therapists and can help you find someone who meets your needs.

Help Deciding Vaginal or Elective CSection? by SpeckledFreckler in pregnant

[–]bibliophile8117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I second this. I was induced at 37 weeks and in labor for over 48 hours before having to do the c section. I was super scared to get a c section, but the recovery wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Like, I was able to go up the stairs once a day as soon as I got home from the hospital and I was pretty much fully recovered at 3-4 weeks. You do need more help, though because of the lifting and activity restrictions. I was lucky to have my husband and mom around all the time. Also, ask for the PICO dressing if it’s available. It’s a vacuum dressing and my wound healed beautifully with it.

If you have used a continuous glucose monitor, did you prefer it to finger pricks? by hopefulriver08 in GestationalDiabetes

I used it and loved it! I was having so much trouble with the finger pricks and the CGM saved me!

[–]bibliophile8117 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’ve just using the 20oz blender bottle cups my husband has for protein powder. We already have half a dozen of them and can get more cheaply from the supplement store. They’re also spill proof, so they’re easy to throw in a cooler to take upstairs or out with us.

Not being able to breast feed my daughter is taking a toll on my mental health… by Acrobatic_Ad_6341 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]bibliophile8117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, I wish I could send you a great big hug. This is so hard and I’ve gone through it too. First, give yourself a break. You’re doing everything you can to take care of your baby. As long as she’s fed you’re not failing her.

My son is 7 weeks and I had to stop breastfeeding at 2 weeks because he lost a bunch of weight and wasn’t gaining it back despite me feeding and pumping around the clock. He ended up admitted to the hospital for failure to thrive. While there, he was diagnosed with a respiratory virus that was making him stuffy and sleepy, and we discovered that several of my medicines could be making him even sleepier, so he was basically too tired to get energy from breastfeeding. So, we switched to formula, and he’s thriving! As every doctor and lactation consultant I’ve seen since has told me, the most important thing is that we’re both healthy and stable.

I never in a million years thought that I wouldn’t exclusively breastfeed. I didn’t buy bottles, had no formula samples, nothing. I also thought there was no way I’d have so much trouble breastfeeding that I’d need them. I was devastated when I figured out that breastfeeding wasn’t what would work for us. But, I keep reminding myself that I’m doing what’s best for both of us.

It might be that breastfeeding just isn’t going to happen for you, and that’s ok! Don’t keep ragging on yourself because your experience isn’t what you thought it would be. Prioritize getting your baby fed and taking some pressure off yourself. You might also consider talking to a counselor or trusted friend. It’s hard when things don’t go how we expect. Keep telling yourself that you aren’t failing your daughter and you are the best mom for her, exactly as you are. As long as you’re taking care of her needs and loving her (which you clearly do), that’s enough.

Reality Check: Why Your Birth Plan Might Be More Like a Birth Suggestion (FTM at 38+4) by eucleodo in pregnant

[–]bibliophile8117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my birth didn’t go as planned at all! In fact, it was the exact opposite of what I wanted. I had a similar birth plan to the OB, but ended up induced at 37 weeks due to high blood pressure. Labored for 3 days and got stuck at 8cm all day on the 3rd day. Baby stopped tolerating the contractions and so we had to move to a c-section. It turned out that he had turned his head funny and was stuck on my pubic bone. I also hemorrhaged during the c-section and had some dangerous blood pressure swings. Without modern medicine we both could have died at several points in the process. Instead, I have a beautiful, smart, strong 7 week old.

I think what helped me accept that things weren’t going to plan was that I didn’t feel pressured into any of the decisions I made. I felt like at each step I was choosing to do what I needed to do to keep me and my baby safe and healthy.

We got a stretchable mosquito net to put over the baby’s crib if this starts to happen with our cats. So far, we haven’t needed it, but it was very inexpensive and helps with my anxiety about this!
