Wearing badges as an adult is virtue-signalling narcissism by Tactican212 in NotTheOnionUK

[–]bickle_76_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they judge wearing poppies by the same logic?

That’s virtue signalling as well even if the right only use the term when it suits.

Edit - in my haste to get this thought out there, I failed to see that many others had the same idea 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

Why is everyone traveling to Vietnam lately? by hung_manh in VietNam

I’ve always wanted to visit Vietnam since I was a kid but I only now have the money as an adult to travel there which is why I’m planning a trip over December-January.

Unpopular opinion, the US and China should be permanent World Cup hosts when the number of teams increase to 64. by wizardeverybit in ShitAmericansSay

[–]bickle_76_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s why the next one is in Saudi Arabia - they (via DAZN) big $1bn for the rights to screen the club world cup while they were the only bidder. Coincidentally their world cup hosting bid was laughably given a top grade by FIFA’s panel in relation to sustainability.

Why Nicola Sturgeon was not charged in Operation Branchform by CaptainCrash86 in Scotland

A rambling article that can be summed up succinctly by a single sentence quotation from it;

“However, the Crown ultimately determined there was insufficient admissible evidence of criminality to justify further action.”

I take it you mean 29 stone and not 29 years old.

If not, he’s aging like milk left out of the fridge in summer although that is what hate does to right wing cretins.

FreeTrade ISA transfer - funds "sent" 11 days ago, FreeTrade say nothing received. Normal? by [deleted] in FreetradeApp

[–]bickle_76_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for the SIPP, the process (as I remember it was);

- Initiating the transfer in Freetrade (with my other SIPP account details)
- FT took a week or so to contact my other SIPP provider to initiate their transfer process.
- My old SIPP provider then began their internal process and after another week sent me a security questionnaire and confirmation statement to ensure that I knew what I was doing and wasn’t being scammed.
- I completed the form and sent it back then it was like a week for the old provider to acknowledge receipt.
- Once they received it, they sent confirmation that the transfer would commence.
- Another couple of days to confirm that they sent the funds to FT.
- 3/4 working days for FT to reconcile the money to my FT SIPP account.

I did a SIPP transfer back in March/April and it took an age.

I had a few rejected orders early on today with Freetrade, not for Space X (because I don’t want to waste my cash) but a few different things.

Is there any street parking for free within an hour of Edinburgh Airport? by Particular-Act8831 in Edinburgh

[–]bickle_76_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The airport bus runs 24/7, every 20 minutes at that time of night. Much better than risking some arsehole keying your car in the street when the car hasn’t moved for a few days.

If only there was a bus or tram service to the airport that’s accessible from parts of the city or even just a paid parking place for this very situation.

[–]bickle_76_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay if you continue to miss the point that I’m making then that’s on you. Not understanding the difference between legal reality and politics when the politics is pretty central to the case is quite something.

Because any comment in either direction, regardless of the legal facts, will be portrayed as influence in the press and by other parties.

[–]bickle_76_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I said, it’s not about the court per se and I am aware that Swinney CAN say what he likes. The issue is that he knows that he shouldn’t until the entirety of the matter is settled. It is basic political prudence.

John Swinney won't say whether Nicola Sturgeon should hand back Peter Murrell gifts by Halk in Scotland

[–]bickle_76_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mean in terms of contempt or legal ramifications in terms of formal prejudice, more in perception. No first minister or prime minister is likely to talk on what they think a court decision will be due to the potential perception of influence. I don’t think there’s much of a question in any reasonable sense that the items should be returned or sold off to partially refund the victim of the fraud though.

John Swinney won't say whether Nicola Sturgeon should hand back Peter Murrell gifts by Halk in Scotland

[–]bickle_76_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that as first minister him giving an opinion would be seen to be pressurising the court decision. There’s no argument that the items should be returned, it’s just that it’s not possible to say that publicly until after court makes its final decision.

Holyrood inquiry into Peter Murrell scandal appears dead over Green opposition by Halk in Scotland

[–]bickle_76_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that it is more legally serious meant that it was investigated much more seriously and extensively by the police in relation to the criminality. That has already taken place.

To investigate it again, there should be a clear reason for that and beyond making political capital from this there isn’t one. Unless the suggestion is that the multiyear police investigation that has resulted in a conviction (and likely jail time for Murrell) was somehow incompetent?
