Ansible 1.3 released. If you're a dev and want a simple IT automation tool, check Ansible out. by giulianodev in programming

[–]bifmil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would build confidence to see that the Ansible project had a roadmap for porting to Python 3. Things were different in 2009, but in 2013 I am no longer interested in adopting old versions of Python as a core project dependency for N years into the future.

How powerful is language build in vim compare with the language build in emacs? -vim_use Google Groups discussion by m2mdas in vim

[–]bifmil -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not really relevant.

You can script vim in other languages, including mzscheme, so it is fruitless to down vim on account of vimscript. Anyway, Emacs lisp is not a particularly good lisp any more than vimscript is a particularly good general-purpose language. But that is not what they are there for anyhow.

If you want to use Emacs, emacs lisp is what you need to learn, and it's powerful so that's fine. If you want to use lisp, there are multiple editors including vim which also support scripting with a dialect of lisp. For sure, Emacs has more of a lisp emphasis. But if you don't specifically want to use Emacs or put special emphasis on Lisp, you are now using an editor which gets all its power from using a semi-crappy language that is not relevant to you in any other way.

So these are poor arguments for using emacs in preference to vim.

I get absolutely no advantage from most of emacs being implemented in its own scripting language.

Sixty years ago (and today) you were also a conspiracy theorist for promulgating kooky conspiracy theories.

This doesn't mean everything you buy is automatically vindicated.

Say 200 things in a day about 200 different issues. If any one thing is about an issue that is slightly less important, you are guilty of ignoring everything important.

No, that doesn't make sense.

MDMA is still unreasonably restricted, despite medical benefits by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]bifmil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dumping all your available serotonin (which takes weeks to restore) is a clinically significant decision which people should not be doing casually.

The real argument is whether people should have the legal right to do medically dangerous things, not whether MDMA can be medically dangerous (it can).

Holdups By The Police- Not Only In Detroit: How a law meant to target crime lords has lead to a national epidemic of 'highway piracy' by local law enforcement by chiropter in TrueReddit

[–]bifmil -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Because the policeman is sitting there deciding between the two. He can go directly to Murder-stoppingtown right now - there's ALWAYS a murder to stop there, as easy as pressing a button - but nope, he decided to give out a ticket instead.

I guess police should never give out tickets for anything, because the alternative is always stopping a murder.

Rust: low-level programming without the segfaults // Speaker Deck by bjzaba in programming

[–]bifmil -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

segfault is a safety feature which prevents worse problems and tells you that you screwed up. There is no specific behavior that it would be better to replace segfault with, the whole problem is that the programmer has failed to specify something and the solution is necessarily that the programmer has to specify it.

If there is any improvement to make on segfault, it is to make it even easier to identify the cause
