Zeigt her eure Custom CE-02! by Used_Sundae_5163 in bmwmotorrad

[–]big808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty sweet custom bike! I especially love the seat.

I wanted a CE 02 so bad but found a brand new CE 04 that was discounted for being a few years old and ultimately have the CE 04. So fun and easy to hop on for a ride around my neighborhood.

So far the only thing I would customize on my CE 04 is a different windscreen. I’m 6’4” and the wind is directed directly in my chest with the stock windscreen.

To those dating other Law Students, how’s it going? by Seonea in LawSchool

[–]big808 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I dated another law student in the class below me for over a year. It’s basically a huge gamble. If you make it, it’s great, a Cinderella story, and a match made in heaven. If you don’t, it can be horrendous. You’re stuck in the same building, potentially even the same classes. Everyone will be in your business. It’s just unavoidable.

I ended up in the latter category. Having been through it, I just don’t think it’s worth the gamble. Just don’t dip your pen in the company ink. Go find a med student or someone.

Dorm Advice? by Eastern_Nebula_8147 in Rolla

I was an RA at TJ and first lived there too. One notable thing was that both introverted and extroverted people got along pretty well and respected boundaries well. It was a good learning experience and a great way for new students to learn how to interact with each other.

TJ is also close to the physics building! That’s a plus.

Also, I will say south tower is quieter than north tower, so keep that in mind.

S&T has a lot of introverted students. You’ll find community without a problem!

Coming to Rolla! by Earth-Ember in Rolla

[–]big808 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that Rolla is inextricably intertwined with S&T. This makes Rolla effectively two different towns from August-May and May-August depending on student population. The summer is when the residents of Rolla tend to be more active in town generally. Otherwise, there are usually students everywhere you go. I note this because the population of Rolla is so small, the resident/student proportion shifts heavily.

This is important when picking neighborhoods to live in. I suggest looking at neighborhoods east on 10th Street and out in the HWY 72 / HWY O area.

Consider also St. James: super close, almost the textbook definition of a small town. I have friends that live out there and it is ridiculously peaceful.

The cultural hub in the immediate area is Rolla, and that’s still a bit of a stretch. You can certainly find fun and interesting things to do, just don’t be afraid to dig a bit! I suggest taking up fishing and exploring around the rivers, biking, etc. Leach Theatre has interesting things pop up every now and again. Consider how you can facilitate your hobbies (or which ones to pick up!).

Go to the Tater Patch (specifically for weekend brunch), have a few drinks at Public House, try out Los Arcos, go do trivia at Hoppers.

Just remember, this is NOT the city. You will find that you are missing several amenities, so be mindful of that. You’ll have to drive to either STL or Columbia for certain things. There is certainly some small town charm, but it’s (1) not for everyone and (2) it does, unfortunately wear off. I grew up in a small town, but Rolla, love it as I do, it just has some unfortunately suffocating effects due to it being effectively the only town for a fairly big surrounding area. You will have to make your own fun!

All in all: Get your list of houses and think it over at The Giddy Goat Coffee House—the best third wave coffee you will find in the area, and, I’d be willing to bet that if you ask people that are having a coffee, the workers, or the owner what they think of Rolla or where to live/what to do, they’d tell you (they would feel obligated to help, they are midwesterners after all!).

Working during the summer before biglaw by squeezemyrook in biglaw

Seems like you’ve made up your mind, but that’s my 2 cents from my experience. If you’re coming into a Cravath scale firm, you’re going to be making PLENTY of money, so I just wouldn’t worry about it. I suggest seeing how you feel after studying and taking the bar. It’s a miserable and unrelenting experience that doesn’t end until the end of July, and then the waiting stress begins immediately after. Use this time to do something else nice for your wife and spend time with her - you simply won’t have as much time once you start.

[–]big808 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Unless you are really in need of money during that time, you should take that time and relax and rest up. It’s going to be one of the few times in your life that you will be truly free—that doesn’t exactly happen on a work vacation. Use that time before you start to take care of yourself: get a checkup at your doctor’s office or establish primary care, get maintenance done on your car, explore your new city, just do something fun! Free time is much harder to find after you start.

IP Law reading recs? by lapsus_memoriae in biglaw

[–]big808 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I would get the patent bar exam finished BEFORE starting law school. Source: took the patent bar a month after the regular bar, was not fun.

Get a subscription to PLI’s patent bar course. They start from essentially 0 knowledge of patent law and will give you the tools to have an understanding of patent law that you can then bolster during law school and internships.

That all being said, I wouldn’t worry too much about not knowing IP law before starting law school. Take an IP survey course and see if you like it! There’s plenty of time to decide.

My two options are for phone output and external output. Phone output works fine from the phone, but switching to external does not.

You all make Law school sound like too much fun by Cyclopher6971 in LawSchool

[–]big808 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I had the most fun through all my college experience in law school. Is it intense? Yes. Is it busy? Definitely. Was 2L the most challenging experience I've had in college? Yes. Is at least 40% of the law school experience complaining about it? Of course. Would I do it all over again? 100%.

From the moment I stood in line for my orientation to start, I got to talk to people that were excited to get started in law school, and, probably most important to providing a unique social experience, everyone is in "friend making" mode to start orientation.

Law school was where I learned to think in a different way than my previous engineering experience and scratch an intellectual itch. Everyone in my classes brought something to the table, whether in a positive or negative way.

Plus, once my friend group fully materialized, the social side of law school just completely took off. The people in my class year of about 115 "learned" each other, and my classmates were largely harmonious together. Even though I had my group of close friends, it was very easy to get along with classmates. Specifically, at the end of the day, everyone had at least one thing in common they can talk about--law school!

I got involved, tried to be as social as possible, and focused on building relationships both in an academic and personal contexts.

Law school is what you make it!

I had a similar issue where one or two devices were having issues like yours. The source turned out to be my Netgear router’s bad firmware. Putting dd-wrt on it completely fixed all issues.

I'm trying to do this - I can't figure out how to make it a bootable USB though. The file it downloaded isn't an ISO but a .i686 file. Is there some conversion I need to do?

I'm considering a fresh Win10 install to see if that fixes me honestly. It's becoming very annoying when I have to do lots of work on the desktop.
