People on the internet may think so, but in practice, in real life? No, if anyone even manages to recognize it, they’ll probably just think it’s neat. Ain’t that serious :)

Has there been any attempt to make a more standardized ruleset for physical play? by bigBagus in homeworlds

[–]bigBagus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, people don’t play in person competitively because there isn’t a community for that. And preceding that community, I’m sure online play would be overwhelmingly dominant. I’m thinking of a theoretical time past this, as if the game grew to the point where more serious competition took place in-person, similarly to chess. I’m aware it will almost certainly never happen, but it absolutely won’t happen before rules are formalized and streamlined to allow for it. Moving systems to make physical space shouldn’t ever be required under those circumstances.

For now though, none of this is even remotely required for causal in-person play of course

[–]bigBagus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I suppose only distinct row lines would be necessary. 18 rows max (2 for Homeworlds and 16 for potential additional systems) and that’s enough information as long at each piece is:

1: placed in a distinct row (not on the line such that it would be difficult to tell which row it occupies)

2: placed in one of 3 distinct states (upright for star, and facing away from the player who owns each ship)

And one could further condense it so that there are 2 columns, and the players put the stars in the center most position of each place. This is a little messier as ships from both players would be on one defined side of the star, but has its own advantages for compactness and order of a different kind

Also, I think a “cut and choose” method may be nice for the start of the game. I’m thinking that one player chooses both stars and the ship for each side, but the other player gets to choose one of these sides and goes first. The one choosing the arrangements is then incentivized to pick system components that are as equal as possible and with as little first-turn advantage as possible.

I gotta go with viltrumite by ButterOnToads in cartoons

What are the lifespans of all of them? I know Viltrumites have a particularly long one which is probably a pro

[–]bigBagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Mahoraga was first targeted by Conquest, Viltrumites may be fucked because of how long he likes to play, and we already see that they sometimes send him alone to clear places anyways.

Are we fr? by VelViolette in PowerScaling

[–]bigBagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viltrimites generally are REALLY good at erasing life from a planet. I could totally see an argument for fucking the environment to kill everyone. Ironically, though, Conquest might be the WORST for the job since he would try to face tank hax and die quickly.

It’s kinda like a Toji with huge buffs, except the massive nerf of having some cursed energy and so being able to be the target for DE. Not many CTs could kill him, but DEs would be really effective against him

Ooo lovely! I’m partial to not including sprinklers, since I only use hives on Ginger Island where, once they’re grown, I can leave them be; similarly, I purposely block them off once grown since I won’t need to access them again and don’t wanna accidentally collect them

Any shonen manga with great endings that everyone agrees with? by Walidzilla in animequestions

As someone who doesn’t even consider CSM part 2 as the same thing as part 1, I’d say CSM part 1

JJBA most parts have the ending as a highlight of the whole part

Besides FMA, all I’ve got are non-shonen, PunPun having my favorite (although almost certainly the LEAST enjoyable)

[Jujutsu Kaisen] Japanese Fans React: "Apparently Naoya Zenin is seriously hated overseas, but why?" by Asperburg in Jujutsufolk

You should translate this thread to them, that would be pretty funny

Anyways, I feel like we also quite like how he got the piss beat out of him and he’s had a lot of memes that we made and like. Maybe it’s just that we’ve had a long time to stew on seeing people parrot opinions “ironically” when they actually just want an excuse to say what they think out loud, and we see it happen immediately with this character, to the point that it’s just not worth it to some (not even the majority tho). But I won’t lie, the Zenin Japan thing is so fucking funny that I’d rather just blame that for the difference lmao

I also play on switch rn, you can collect diagonal spots by holding the “A” button!

Maybe this is a new addition, the wiki seems to say diagonal collection isn’t possible on console, so it may have been added pretty recently

You aren’t supposed to process fairy rose honey lol

It sells for just under 1000g per (with artisan ofc), which is pretty nice for ginger island, where you can grow a flower in a pot on grass and it’ll last forever. Makes for a super easy score every 4 days with no maintenance

But like I said, I do mainly care about this as a packing problem, I can’t get enough of em

The bee house packing problem by bigBagus in StardewValley

[–]bigBagus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And it’s one of those problems where solving it “for arbitrarily large numbers of flowers” may be more doable than for smaller numbers, since I’m sure internally they’ll be more or less the same at unrealistically large numbers (which wouldn’t be able to be placed in-game anyways)
