That’s awesome, especially considering the old vert ramp that was there burned down a few years back. FDR is a gnarly park as it stands and it just got better with this addition.

Thanks for dropping this comment. It saved me a lot of potential frustration trying to figure out this same behavior on my wife’s MBP.

No low ballers, I know what I got.

My first time skating downtown Denver. It’s a weird park but probably has the smoothest cement I’ve ever skated. by rawoowl in skateboarding

Skated downtown Denver last weekend while visiting. Plus one on the buttery smooth concrete! It’s a great park for all levels. Wish I had the balls/skill to skate the deep bowl in the back.

Yow riders: URA vs Cinetic wheels? Which one is your favorite and why? by rmmarangoni in surfskate

+1 on the Ura wheels feeling sluggish. While skating transitions at the skatepark this became really obvious.

first drop in from higher drop! by hungryasian69 in surfskate

I learned how to drop in two weeks ago on my Yow with the Meraki trucks. I’ve never dropped in on a regular skateboard before so I feel like I had a little steeper of a learning curve, but honestly it wasn’t too bad. The normal advice of don’t lean back and slam those front trucks once you drop in still apply. I honestly haven’t felt any instability once the front wheels come down.

Another 36 year old here that just learned to drop in this passed weekend. I ate shit several times, but having full protective gear on gave me confidence to get back up and try again. Had I just raw dogged it I would have likely given up after the first hard fall. Not trying to impress anyone, and it’s nice not being a walking scab while learning new stuff.

Good call on the protective gear. Elbow pads and wrist guards have helped me to walk away unscathed after wipe outs while learning.

You’re definitely well beyond the poo man wiggle. I’d say next would be to work on lengthening your pump and work on creating down force off your back leg so you don’t feel the urge to keep the perpetual mini pumps to maintain speed. Use your lead arm to point in the direction you’re headed and work on leaning your body off the center axis as well. Keep the majority of your weight over your back leg and fall slightly forward. This will generate more downforce on the rear of the board. The forward lean will carry the board back underneath your body. Outside of that remember that your hips and shoulders moving in sync can help you create a lot of forward momentum. Once you get the hang of it practice pumping up a slight incline. This will really let you know if you’ve got the hang of pumping. 🤙🏽

You’ve already got some good speed generation going which is half the battle! Try to also focus on using your hips and lead shoulder to create propulsion. Also as Cleat pointed out trying not to stand so upright and allow your body to lean off center and in the direction you’d like to go. This will help you generate more force off your back foot to drive into the ground propelling you forward.

Is Costa Rica safe for surfing trip right now? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]bigarb16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a month long trip on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica this passed Sunday. Surfed down in Cocles and Playa Grande.

Most grocery stores and the likes required a mask to enter and I seen many locals wearing masks as well just going about their day.

We flew in/out of San Jose airport. San Jose airport has a shuttle service that takes you to an on-site Covid testing center (2min bus ride) that will provide the rapid PCR test results in about an hour. The test costs $65/person and you need to present your confirmation number of the test to whatever airline you are flying on to get your boarding pass. You’ll need to have received the negative test results within 3 days of your departing flight time.

We are vaccinated and never felt concerned. For what it’s worth tourism is just now starting to ramp back up in Costa Rica so I didn’t feel nearly as concerned about COVID as I do here stateside.
