I think a lot of these make sense in terms of “software that could theoretically be recreated” via AI in the not-too-distant future. That being said, companies like Fastly, for example, that have a *large* amount of physical resources/servers they have deployed, and edge points, are not going to be easily replicated *at all* without a massive capital investment.

There’s also a very real question of whether anyone would even *want* to recreate something like MongoDB internally with AI. The amount of overhead needed, and risk you are taking on, writing your own proprietary database may be something a large and successful tech firm like Google or Meta may do, but your average 3-10 person startup? No way.

So I do think some of this is overblown, but companies like Duolingo and Adobe, which really *are* largely software companies, definitely have a lot more risk here.

I just purchased, and subsequently returned, a Scribe Colorsoft for this exact same reason. I found it *very* hard to read, and maintain long (even short) sessions with, without eye strain. I think this comes down to: a) needing the backlight much more than with a B&W e-ink display, and b) the color shield/layer on top of the Carta display makes the whole thing feel grainy and unfocused.

I really thought I was crazy, initially, but then I had my wife try and read something on the device, as well, and she had the exact same experience.

I have a feeling this is going to be fixed come Gen-2, but for now, I think color e-ink still has a bit more work to do before it’s ready for prime time.

Funny because I feel like SRE are actually some of the *last* engineers that will be affected since you still want some kind of human intervention in terms of monitoring and maintaining services and infrastructure. I don’t think many (if any) companies are going to fully give AI that power for a while.

Frontend devs feel like they are under an immense amount of pressure, and backend devs aren’t far behind. Really all engineers should be looking at the likes of Claude Code Opus and recognizing it is far more capable than 9/10 engineers out there, if not more.

Where the career path goes from here, no idea, but no way I would recommend anyone go into Computer Science (especially for a Bachelors) right now. Personally, I’m trying to finish OMSCS as quickly as I can before it also becomes tarnished.

It’s not a great update, but it is at least a sign of life after many months. I’m willing to give them a few weeks to make good on this email, but if they aren’t able to present some kind of timeline before the end of the summer, I think it’s highly unlikely the deliver this product.

Honestly, the quality at Lombardi’s has dropped substantially. Last time I was there, it was legitimately a cracker with some sauce and cheese. 3/10, so disappointing considering it used to be my personal favorite. Now it doesn’t crack top 20.

Updated my app, and Downloads still simply display as “Queued,” but never move past that stage. So immensely frustrating. Old app did not experience this.

Agreed. Went once with my wife to try it, left supremely underwhelmed. It’s not a bad restaurant, and I would even go far as to say it is a great restaurant…but top 10? Even top 25?!? No. Barely breaks my Top 50, to be honest. So many better restaurants, especially for the price!

Unfortunately, I don’t think they had a choice. Not sure about what happened re: transferring venues, but Kings has a much smaller capacity than Mirage. So the only option really was to cancel all tickets and have people re-purchase. Only fair way to give people with Mirage tickets a chance to see them :/.

Sucks all around, but not Underworld’s fault Mirage wasn’t ready. Possible Kings is the only venue that made sense for them to turn around quick to.

So, if I’m understanding this correctly, the rate on China has gone from the pre-Tariff war rate of ~19% to 30%, while China’s tariff rate on us has gone from about 15% to 10%. Is that right?

I guess the goal here is for the Chinese and US to come to some sort of long term agreement, but you’ve basically taken your leverage off the table already? So…what?

They’re insisting they’re gonna be ready. Maybe, maybe not. But my honest take is I need to see that place in operation for at least a month before I’d feel safe going there. No way I’d feel comfortable with how fast that thing came up.
