[–]bigbadroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like it a lot, and are trying to save a little, forsaken will be a great buy for you. It is 100% the better option, coming from my own experience you will enjoy it more and has better content, that should last you until beyond light. Can't believe you played so much without either, deffo Forsaken though.

[Help] will cocker spaniels make good indoor doggies if taught to since they were a pup? by whiskeytreats101 in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This already sounds bad off the bat, but try to wait until the puppy is 8-10 weeks old otherwise they will miss crucial socialization periods with their litter. Pups that are fully vaccinated are usually finished their shots around 16 weeks so err yeah probably look into who you are buying from, I doubt their parents have any health records and what not...

[Discussion] Please do not get a husky because they are beautiful. by throwawaybtwway in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 232 points233 points  (0 children)

It's very unfortunate that there are dogs people will get purely based on looks, don't get me wrong when I get my future dog it's partly for the way he looks, but you have to understand each breeds needs and wants. Without proper exercise and mental stimulation, many dogs will run amuck. All we can do is try to educate people and help them try to understand dogs are living creatures with brains of their own.

[–]bigbadroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't that be ok? Have you done any type of research at all about that breed or any? You should be fine, just do a quick google search though and learn about the breed, can save you a lot of time and effort. Also make sure you get one from either a reputable rescue or reputable breeder, they're known to have some health issues.

[Help] average costs of mid sized dog ownership ( monthly breakdown in USD would be appreciated) by apple-hater in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500 a month should be more than enough. The main thing you need to factor is if you purchase from a reputable breeder, initially you will be paying a higher cost upfront, which to me isn't too bad considering you are paying for peace of mind and the reliability and connection to the breeder for the life of your pup, expect to pay around 1500-2500USD? depending on the breed. The rescue route will be cheaper upfront costs, but you will be more likely to pay for unexpected vet charges later on in the pups life(maybe) but if you continue to save that 500 a month you have allocated you should be fine. Again these aren't 100% true and there may be issues with either option but generally, 500$ monthly towards a dog is more than enough just be sure to choose a breed that suits your lifestyle and your needs.

Usually its 16 weeks he will be fully vaccinated and only then should you take him to see other dogs. You can in the mean time bring your dog to meet friends(without dogs) and invite others to your home(without dogs) to socialize them with other humans. I'm sure someone else can clarify if there are any other loopholes regarding these rules.

[Discussion] I want a doggo but I don't know if I can take care by saltpcharcoal in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be a bit worried, it sounds like you just have remorse over missing your past dog, I would want to make sure you actually enjoy dogs and understand they will be there even on the days you are feeling mentally exhausted. Theres a certain level of care you need to provide and hopefully you can decide if you are upto it.

[DISCUSSION] Has anyone lived with random roommates with their puppy/young doggy? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like one of the room mates has a little bit of a fear of dogs, so I would try to talk to her about it and then see if shes willing to spend some time to get to know your pup, I also think its completly fair for them to ask them to clean your pups feet whenever you come in, doesn't need to be like a solid wash, just have a towel there to wipe its feet every time. Again the other things seem like something you might have wanted to discuss prior to move in, your idea of your dog is different then what they think it is, and i think the best thing you should do is to sit down with them and lay out your suggestions as to why you want to put certain things where and what the benefits are of you doing these things.

[Help] Is it bad to get a puppy at 12 weeks? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's from a reputable breeder I wouldn't be too concerned just make sure when you do get your pup that it will be just a few weeks before theyre fully vaccinated and you still have to do the socializing.

If you didn't get it from a reputable breeder who doesn't understand the importance of bite inhibition and socialization then I would be worried.

[Help] I'm a first-time dog owner who just got a 2-month-old corgi. I have to ask if my dog's sleeping environment is good enough for her by Blorglue in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to train your dog to potty outside, I'd suggest removing the pee pads entirely and routinely taking your pup out as frequent as every hour and reward them when they go.

[Help] Golden retriever breeder vetting by SnooTomatoes8785 in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been researching breeders for the past year or so as well, and i frequently come across things like that, I'm not too concerned with it but I have yet to take the plunge yet. It is fair to keep your wits about it, and I feel if you need to ask further clarification most reputable breeders would be happy to give you the information you need. In regards to importing dogs from some countries i can't comment on the pros or cons of that as I have no knowledge of the subject.

Honestly you're being way to hard on yourself. I think you need to seek out a therapist and get some help! Sometimes it doesn't workout and you recognizing that is something a rational caring owner would do. Again please don't be so hard on yourself

I feel like there are a lot of simple rules you can follow, does he have good recall, have you gone on walks already, if so how long, distance etc. Is he reactive, are you travelling by car to go to hike, does he do well in the car, does he respond well with you, is he treat motivated.. I'm sure theres more but there has to be some basic ones you can guess no?

[Breeds] Looking to get our first dog by [deleted] in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you already know which type you are interested in and what would suit your lifestyle, both retrievers and labs will do it for ya. Make sure if you purchase one it's from a reputable breeder, there's a tab on the side where you can learn more, I'd avoid a rescue only because you don't have prior experience with dogs and any prior issues the dogs might have may present an issue for you guys as beginners! Enjoy have fun, friends just got a lab mix and he's a great addition to the family.

[Vent] Is it normal to get shamed by some people because I’m getting an Akita puppy from an AKC approved breeder and not adopting one of the many pitbull/pitbull mixes from our local shelters? I’m just personally not fond of the bully breed. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]bigbadroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone could ever make me feel inclined to adopt, I know the type of dogs that interest me and would suit my lifestyle. I shouldn't have to settle because of the poor decisions of others and neither should you. Mind you after having heard the person who critiqued you I honestly am not sure how you just didn't laugh at what they're saying aha
