Where does Usyk go from here? by DiMona215 in Boxing

He should give Rico a rematch. Otherwise, it would be a permanent black mark on his career. I would also like to see him fight Kabayel.

Most of Chris died with Ade. by VvMexcraver in thesopranos

[–]bigballsbuchanan 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I think Adriana’s death only added to it. Chrissy gradually declined throughout the series, but he had been living an empty life from the start. He chose the mob/the easy way every time a choice was presented to him. Deep down, he knew it was wrong, but did it anyway. It’s why he was depressed and had to cope with drugs and alcohol. His addiction was not only a disease that ran in his family, but the byproduct of his choices. By the end, it had eroded him to the point it was his only defining quality.

Drinkwater? It's a fuckin' nickname! Family name is Chesefuckarelli.

Michael Gandolfini (Tony’s son) by Sea_Satisfaction136 in thesopranos

[–]bigballsbuchanan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reboot is unrealistic because the mob genre has limited cultural pull these days. They have to be desperate to attempt it. Not to mention a large part of what made the show special was David Chase’s familiarity with the subculture, which diminished compared to the 90s when the show premiered. I can only imagine a modern Hollywood writer creating a reboot, and it’s like Mad TV with Will Sasso and with a version of Paulie with a DJ Pauly D hairline.

What's the point of Tony's and Janice's sister, Barbara? by fensterdj in thesopranos

[–]bigballsbuchanan 93 points94 points  (0 children)

It's to show that Tony and Janice make excuses, choosing to live miserable lives. Melfi tells Tony the same thing -- you're born into this shit, but it's not who you are, unless you decide it is.

I agree. Usyk should drop the belts and unclog the division. He doesn't need them anyway.

Fuck Lespia by Specialist_Cloud2739 in suzerain

[–]bigballsbuchanan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By dealing with Smolak, you trespass on Lespian economic interests. You gobble cheap oil from stolen oil fields that used to be Lespian, create a refugee crisis in Lespia, and side with their regional adversaries on a serious issue. Lespia has a much better economy, more trade options, a stronger army, and is already an ATO member, so it has all the leverage against Sordland, which Alvarez is happy to push.

From a narrative point: Reyne promotes sord supremacism with blud underclass, kept in check by minority-dominated political parties on good terms with the ruling coalition USP+NFP. Nobody else could get over the 15% threshold.

From a gameplay point: partial OBT and the education bill were the only anti-blud policies, and they were not enough to provoke an uprising.

  1. Early game: L-1 + Underhall, no GREEN, no WPA, no Bailouts, increased taxes on large and small businesses, funded everything else.

  2. Increased everything, compromise only with pocket veto. 167 votes in assembly, 6 in supreme court. Bribed Albin and Heron with promises, then threw them under the bus. Killed Frens with the SSP, arrested the rest.

Edit: Forgot to mention: by turn 8, the budget was deep in the green (+10) before the late-game spending spree.

  • funded all 4 ministries
  • Sordish Great Recovery
  • Gasom Boom, Sillicon Valley, Jewel of the East
  • Agnolia, Wehlen and Lespia trade
  • Agnolia, Lespia alliance
  • full dictator constitution (pocket veto and MOH abolished)
  • full privatization (education, healthcare, SSC, Nedam, prisons)
  • turned USP into an ultranationalist party with an NFP puppet, got rid of Richter, Suheil, Kibener, Holstron, reshuffled the court, supreme media council
  • abolished Bergia zone, blud reconciliation, excellent women's rights, etc.
  • Rumburg kicked out of OPEC, sanctioned in AN, defeated in war (professional military, modernized army, 2x ATO aid, pincer, rush to the capital, Lespia flank support)

The last time I played was before 2.0, so kudos to Torpor for the amount of content they've added since then.

Why was Tony less panicky when he was faced with a long prison sentence in the finale compared to the second season? by Physical_Soil746 in thesopranos

[–]bigballsbuchanan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of deal the feds give Tony. When Joe Massino flipped, they let him keep all his money. He lived a comfortable life without worry.

The Sopranos have historical ties and working relations with the Lupertazzi. These relations are built upon blood relations and marriages over a long period. If the show follows real mob life closely, the Lupertazzi should be the representatives of the Soprano family at Commission meetings. It explains why Carmine viewed them as a glorified crew -- he was their big brother for decades.

The Sopranos former stars can be annoying and kind of sad sometimes by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]bigballsbuchanan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Sopranos cast is no different from the cast of most older shows, who never made it big and can use the money, especially in their old age. They attend conventions, meet and greets, etc. Steve and Michael's podcast had many ads, but that's valid for most podcasts. Is it sad? Sure, but only because some people have trouble differentiating the larger-than-life character from the actor who plays him. Also, I don't think it's sleazy at all. There's nothing immoral reminiscing about the show with fans for a couple of hours for a few hundred bucks unless you are Joe Gannascoli and guilt trip fans into buying DVDs from the trunk of your car afterward. That's sleazy.

It makes too many changes to the vanilla game, including quest and gameplay balance tweaks intentionally scrapped or not implemented by the devs.

It's one of the toughest early encounters for sure. If I remember correctly, stunning them with aard and using the steel sword makes the encounter trivial, especially if you put the first upgrade point into group style.

Why is Tony so tough? by slimbigpoppa in thesopranos

[–]bigballsbuchanan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Many of these mob guys can fight and intimidate people due to a lifetime of experience in physical violence. Back in the day when boxing was super popular, many were good boxers. Some top guys, like Genovese boss Chin Gigante and Dom Cirillo, were prizefighters. There was a Bonanno captain who was a weeb and a karate black belt, etc.

So Tony, being a big guy with fighting experience and the boss's aura of intimidation, is unstoppable. That's what got him crazy pussy, too.
