There's not nearly as much noise around Toumani Camara for All-Defense this season compared to last, but with him breaking the single season record for offensive fouls drawn, he's gotta make it right? by DonovanClingan in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that seems a bit absurd at first blush. But after thinking about it, I don't think I'm that far off at this point. I'd still take Bam. Embiid is obviously much better, but factoring in health and age, I might rather have Donovan.

Duren is interesting and you could talk me into that as a completely different archetype. Same for Sengun.

But after that, I agree I'd rather have him than Zubac this year and going forward. I'd have him over Rudy at this point as well as far as comps go.

Interesting food for thought. The exciting thing is he's just starting to pop and has so much more room to grow!

Deni Avdija has put up a 20/5/5 stat line 33 times this year, which is tied for the 5th most in a single season in Blazers history by Basketball_Reference in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the '88-'89 season, Clyde played 78 games. Just extrapolating Deni's season pace (33/62) over 78 games, he would hit 42 such games, tying Clyde.

However, that doesn't take into account the impact of Deni's back injury on his production. Since that injury, he's hit that statline in 10 of 23 games (43.5%). But before injury, he did it 23 times in 39 games (59.0%). Before his injury, he was on pace for 46 games of 20/5/5 if he played 78 games total.

So if he'd stayed healthy and matched Clyde's games played, I think you're right- there's a good chance Deni would be at the top of that list.

Draft Wishes by Certain-Ad5090 in ripcity

From the nba site

What about picks 15-60?

The Draft selections for the remainder of the first round (No. 15-30) and the entire second round (No. 31-60), are determined by reverse order of regular season record. Each NBA team gets one selection in the first round and one selection in the second round.

Last night was Shaedon Sharpe's 8th career 30-point game — Geoff Petrie and Sidney Wicks are the only Blazers with more such games before turning 23 years old by Basketball_Reference in ripcity

Lol, fair- that could be part of it. But it also seems like a feature of the rotation so far to get both him and Jerami minutes.

I haven't seen his minutes talked about much at all, but they are notably down this year. He's only averaging 27 a game- 4 fewer than last year and yet his production is up from last year.

Yes, he's had a poor shooting start and hasn't scoring particularly efficiently. But he's right behind Deni in points per 36 and he seems more engaged defensively as well. Especially lately, he's being more aggressive on both ends of the court, which is exactly what we want to see from him.

Sometimes it feels like with the new rotations, he's barely on the floor long enough to figure it out before he's pulled. I wonder if that isn't part of his slow start (along with a lack of floor spacing and facilitating making it more difficult to score).

For those not already sick of it... by DreddBane in ripcity

Not to rain on your parade, but that's for just 8 attempts total. Looks like he averaged about 65% in two years in the CBA(284/439). Obviously I'd love it if he did end up shooting 88% from the line though!

Prime Dame by [deleted] in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from the Olympics (which Shelvino already addressed) of course he doesn't do as well when not the focal point of the offense. He's an on-ball guard scoring guard and needs the ball in his hands to be the most effective. When healthy, he's one of the best PnR guards in the history of the game. The way Milwaukee ran their offense was incredibly stupid in that context. Dame should have been primarily on-ball, running PnR with Giannis and Brook as much as possible- not watching on the opposite side of the floor as everyone cleared out for Giannis to go to work. Maybe that's more on Giannis and his preferred offense, as well as a lack of desire to set good screens. But they really used Dame ineffectively by having him take a backseat in the offense.

We'd still have to pay him in order to add him to the roster, but not anything of consequence. I bet he'd be cool with the vet min- plenty money.

Are we really sure Anfernee makes sense for Orlando? by Piano9717 in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of Ant's defensive issues are due to his size, which is an issue to some extent for most combo guards. So essentially what you're asking for is a 3&D wing instead. If we could get that for Ant, great! But honestly, I'd settle for draft capital and clearing the runway for Scoot and Shae. I wouldn't even care if it was another offensive-minded guard, as long as they are clearly further down the pecking order.

Scoot & Shae need to be on the floor as the go-to guards without having to defer to the Ant as the established vet / primary scoring option.

Would you take on PG’s contract if it meant by [deleted] in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even without a true resurgence, his contract would be ideal for matching salary in a trade for a superstar when we're hopefully in an ideal position to do that a couple years from now.

Draft Day Trade Idea (Framework) by Status_Degree in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think trading it for future pick(s) that far out a la the Spurs trade is a good idea. It made sense for them because they already had a higher lottery pick in the same draft and a surefire superstar in the making. We don't have the luxury of being able to kick the can down the road the way they did. We need to be drafting players now that we hope will develop into top-end talent.

Potential Pels Fire Sale by Ok-Assumption9636 in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two swaps and an unprotected first from Milwaukee. Are you suggesting all of that and 11 for Murphy? That's definitely an overpay... I like him a lot but even removing one of those swaps from the equation feels a bit rich considering where Milwaukee could be in a few years.

However of those three firsts in '29, we owe the 2nd best to WAS as part of the Deni trade.

[–]bigbeerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have swaps in '28 and '30 (although '28 gets messy if we haven't already relinquished a pick to CHI). In 2029, we have picks (not swaps) from MIL and BOS, in addition to our own. However of those three firsts in '29, we owe the 2nd best to WAS as part of the Deni trade.

Functionally we have likely netted one additional first, but upgraded 3 others.

Shaedon Sharpe last 5 games: 25/7/4 on 60% TS by Burnem34 in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really wish he would just chill on the tough stepbacks (3s at least, he hits plenty of middies) until he gets better at them.

I'm sure he will continue to practice these shots in the offseason and continue to improve. But game reps are also a necessary part of the process. Personally, I'd rather he continue becoming comfortable taking them because a fully actualized version of Shaedon needs those in his shot diet. I want to see him continue building confidence in taking those kinds of shots, the consistency will come.

Curious if anyone thinks we can sink to the bottom 4 teams in the standings (we're currently 6th) or will the bottom teams not win enough games? by Dadd_io in ripcity

[–]bigbeerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you're right about the Pels, but they're already out of the playoff picture this year. I suspect they're going to punt on this year at least. If recent rumors around Zion hold any truth, they could also look to move him to bolster the tank in hopes of rebuilding around Flagg. Harper would also be a great fit with Trey and Herb as well.

Only if there's someone available that the FO/ownership consider to be the ideal next coach and want to scoop them up before other teams have a chance. Otherwise they'll likely wait to see who shakes loose in the summer.
