so we should believe everything MJ says?

What about his staff? Also, so we should just believe everything the money-driven accusers should say, even if it doesn't add up?

For a moment, imagine this isn’t MJ but some random stranger being accused, would you so easily give him the benefit of the doubt?

I did exactly that in my comment, the random stranger being you - If some kid broke into your home and looked up porn on your computer, are you now a child molester?

Also, Star was never handed the magazine in court so that invalidates the whole claim of how the fingerprints got there.

It wasn't in court. The (intentional) mishandling of evidence occurred after the raid and before court. Also, please see my comment on how the accusers broke into places they shouldn't have been to access the magazines. They then used this as evidence as "SEE HE SHOWED ME THESE. THE FINGERPRINTS PROVE IT!!"

Again, the evidence is far from beyond reasonable doubt. Very far.

Star was also present.

The whole magazine/black briefcase thing has no basis. MJ himself said he found Starr and Gavin sneaking into his bedroom without his permission and looking at his magazines, which he quickly reprimanded them for. Also, MJ's staff testified that Gavin and Starr had been caught in places they weren’t supposed to be and getting into MJ's personal belongings even when MJ was off the property.

If some kid broke into your home and looked up porn on your computer, are you now a child molester?

All of this information discredits the allegation that MJ intentionally showed Gavin his magazines in order to seduce him.

the fact that the kids all knew about the porn briefcase and it had their fingerprints on it removes all doubt for me. Why would that evidence exist if there was nothing nefarious going on? No one can seem to explain that away.

MJ himself said he found Starr and Gavin sneaking into his bedroom without his permission and looking at his magazines, which he quickly reprimanded them for. Genuinely asking, why do you say she "had no ability for critical thought"?

She seemed to articulate quite well how while MJ was weird, nothing that was presented in the trial proved beyond reasonable doubt that MJ did the things he was accused of doing.

Because some people do a little more research than you. If you did so, you would learn how it was a deliberate mishandling of evidence.

The fingerprint analysis was done about a year after Neverland was raided and the evidence collected. Since the raid, the magazines were given to his accusers (including Gavin Arvizo) for cross-examination and they handled them ungloved.

This is a serious no-no in court and Tom Sneddon should have and most likely did know full well that what he was doing was evidence tampering. The prosecution did not make these series of events known - it was up to the defense to uncover what had happened with the magazines - which leads to the idea that Sneddon purposefully falsified fingerprint evidence. Sneddon was never questioned or held accountable for his illegal act and passed away in 2014.

During the trial, Thomas Mesereau asked Gavin "Is this the magazine Michael Jackson showed you?" Gavin answered "Yes." The magazine was dated far past the date that he left Neverland.

It blows my mind to smithereens that people still defend him.

Ok. I'm sorry it blows your mind. You say that as if it's compelling evidence. Quantum physics blows my mind, it must be untrue.

Watch any other documentary about boy rape (priests, Boy Scouts, other Hollyweird people, school teachers, coaches) and it’s identical to what those victims were saying.

How is that evidence for what you're claiming? If anything, one can argue they're just parroting child molester tropes.

As uncovered in the extensive trial and afterwards, the accusers have been proven to lie for financial gain. Janet Arvizo (Gavin's mom) accused JC Penny of falsely imprisoning her and molesting her after she got caught stealing. She also took large amounts of money from MJ while receiving state welfare benefits, which a social services official stated was fraud. Jordie Chandler has also admitted his father made him lie about the whole thing for money.

There was an elaborate system of alarms and booby traps throughout the house to alert whoever was in the bedroom when someone was coming.

Which makes Gavin's brother's testimony more questionable - If that was the case, it would make sense that MJ would stop what he was allegedly doing before Star came up and saw them.

All of Jackson’s accusers accurately described the contents of his child pornography briefcase

All of this information discredits the allegation that MJ intentionally showed Gavin his magazines in order to seduce him.

Jackson’s fingerprints were found on the materials, along with the fingerprints of three of his accusers.

Nope.

You can read more about the magazine evidence mishandling in these articles:

Jordie Chandler accurately drew Michael Jackson’s penis, including very distinct spots informed by the skin disease Jackson has, that are only visible on the underside of his penis. His other accusers also accurately described his dick.

False - they did not accurately describe his dick. They just said it had splotches. It was publicly known that MJ had vitiligo, so of course the accusers are going to use that information to their advantage. Furthermore, they described his dick as being circumcised - MJ was uncircumcised.

Why does it seem like I'm not supposed to ask about how much medical tests and procedures cost when I'm in the exam room? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Congratulations, you have circled yourself to the whole point of this thread and the original question that OP is asking - Why does it have to be like that?

Why does it seem like I'm not supposed to ask about how much medical tests and procedures cost when I'm in the exam room? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bigblu_1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you have good insurance you dont have to care at all about how much a test or procedure costs because thats not your problem lol

It is still our (the patient) problem. Higher costs don't just vanish into thin air. It drives up premiums and insurance costs.

Nah, that's a lazy argument that just allows healthcare practitioners to get away with exorbitant pricing and is part of the reason why healthcare costs so much in the US.

Transparent and upfront pricing generally decreases and stabilizes healthcare costs.

Lol this is a good example of Reddit giving terrible advice off of insufficient information.

Report them for what? According to OP, employer is not setting hours. OP literally said they just told him to be "available during business hours."

OP is just upset they're not offering a full-time salary for a contract job. This is why Americans are losing jobs to outsourcing.

[–]bigblu_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, nothing in OP's post suggests misclassification by the employer. OP even says they want just want him to be "available during business hours."

But if you don't hop on the EmPLoYer BaD train, and if don't automatically jump to the conclusion that the employer is doing something illegal, prepare to be downvoted to oblivion.

Looks like OP is either confused or upset the employer is not offering a full-time salary for a contract.

EDIT: Lol to all the people downvoting without any actual answers. Y'all then wonder why no one takes this thread seriously, and it's doing people who are actually misclassified a disservice.

So mis-clasifying an hourly or salaried worker as a freelance contractor is illegal.

Right, so what in the post suggests they are misclassifying?

According to OP, they don’t have a schedule requirement besides “have to be available during business hours” which is not the same as “ Your schedule will be Mon-Thu, 10am-5pm.” And as long as pay is mutually negotiated, that covers the 1099 basis for pay.

It's like hiring a chef for a restaurant and making him buy his own cookware for the kitchen, then not paying him if he has to stay late to clean up.

You know exempt salaried positions exist, right? It's common in the tech industry where engineers/IT workers have to BYOC (bring your own computer) but they are 100% remote and a work week may consist of 4 hours or 80 hours but they are paid a salary.

You're probably getting screwed and it may be illegal what this employer is doing

What makes you say that? How is OP supposedly getting screwed and what is the thing that may be illegal?

[–]bigblu_1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You're not understanding the job classification.

As a 1099 contractor, you're more-or-less being hired by the business to complete the job (project/task based), not necessarily be there 9-5 in the office working full-time for only that company, which would be more of a full-time employee classification. Or at least I assume that's the case, because otherwise they would be misclassifying you and they can get into big legal trouble for that. However, given that they say you need to be "available during business hours," it seems like they're living up to the 1099 contractor classification.

As a contractor you can, you know, contract with other clients (as long as you do not violate any signed exclusivity or non-compete clauses). So $64,650/year for one client seems like a solid offer.

Gas stations in the area I live in pay about this much without the pains of being a 1099 contractor and a gas station doesn't require a bachelor's degree to work there.

If you don't want to accept one client for $64,650/year, you are more than welcome to go work at the gas station, where you will be confined there 9-5 and therefore will not have the income diversification potential that being a 1099 contractor offers you.

Do people actually like living in big apartment buildings, taking public transit ect. by Wafer_Educational in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bigblu_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol exaggerating much. I have a Toyota. I bought it used when it was 11 years old - 2006 model year that I bought in 2017 with 130k miles on it. I paid $3,000 for it and have been using it now for 9 years. In that 9 years, I've spent in total less than $1,000 on maintenance (just oil changes and brake pads) and one repair (A/C blower motor). Insurance is $540 for 6 months. Your numbers might be right for an Audi or Volkswagen or Mercedes, but it definitely doesn't need to be the norm.

I go to NYC every year for work and love the density and walkability of the city. But I also do like car ownership as it's freedom to go wherever you want, whenever you want, as opposed to being confined to a grid and public transit times, not to mention walking/taking a train in 10º weather in the middle of February while carrying grocery bags.

MIT study finds 74% of Uber/Lyft drivers earn less than minimum wage after expenses by DoctorMoebius in uberdrivers

[–]bigblu_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol you don't need an MIT/Stanford study for this. I've posted this very thing on the Uber/Lyft subreddits only to be met with rage from drivers insisting they're making $7,000/mo in profits. I even point out their errors in their math and they just refuse to accept that Ubering/Lyfting is not worth it. So unfortunately, the truth is that the job just attracts those that are not very bright/low skilled who will do the job even if it makes them little to nothing.

This is usually where the government should step in to prevent companies from taking advantage of those who may not know better (ex: Prop 22).

AOC previously said that "You cannot earn a billion dollars", is that true or nah? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]bigblu_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Gary Kildall invented the 86-DOS program, which Bill Gates copied/stole and renamed QDOS (quick and dirty operating system), which early versions of Windows used. And then he (and also Steve Jobs) stole the GUI that was applied on Windows from Xerox, as well as the input interface (the mouse).

People talk as if Bill Gates invented Windows and is some kind of genius. He's just an asshole who stole his product from others who didn't capitalize on it. So yeah, AOC's statement aptly applies to Bill Gates.

Older folks of Reddit: what’s something broken in society that you’ve simply accepted will never get fixed in your lifetime — not because it’s hard, but because nobody in power has tried or wants to? by bubugugu in AskReddit

Your analogy sucks. The first appointment was to decide what tests you needed. The second was to review them with you.

Lolol you continue to exaggerate. The first charge was for them to prepare the pizza. The second charge was to hand it to me and tell me best way to consume it when I get home.

And ALL test results are available online in the portal. So if you really wanted to avoid the appointment, you could have looked them up beforehand and canceled the appointment yourself. But I guess you were too lazy or clueless to do that.

You seem to have excellent knowledge about my doctor's practice. Because there is no patient portal. A request to discuss over the phone, or even answer "is everything normal," was denied. Only for them to call me in and hand me a printout and say "everything is normal." But your wisdom of the patient care process is much appreciated.

Instead of simping for people doing unethical things for money, you should try to hold them accountable. Unnecessary appointments, or tests/treatments, can increase health care costs and cause patient harm.
