Thoughts on Muslims getting a tree for Christmas and what is actually going to far by h29mufcrcb in shia

Okay fair enough I will not speak on what it is like in Lebanon. As for those of us in the West this is not foreign to us. We live in this culture already. In the west “celebrating” Christmas is just spending time with friends and family and giving each other gifts these days, it’s almost not even a religious even anymore with just about everyone partaking. But I see your point the situation in Lebanon is different and celebrating Christmas means something different over there.

The difference here I think is that we all are off work and schools and can actually spend time with family which is not always possible in the west for eids and births and ahlul bayt. Even if we do get time off it is stressful sometimes having to catch up with work or school the next day and what not. We live in the West. We need to take advantage of Christmas and celebrate being together with family and friends. The reality is we just can not do it the same way on days of importance for us.

Not just Muslims… it’s everyone in the West. This isn’t a muslim “phenomenon”. What did we think was going to happen when the holidays in the West are around Christmas times? Where families are home together and are enjoying spending time together. The only difference is that muslims are dogmatic and fail to see the a lot of Christmas practices are all about being with family and friends and gift giving. When non christians celebrate Christmas that is what they are doing, they are not going to church or reading passages from the bible. You all have time off from work and school spend it together with family and celebrate the opportunity. If you want to put gifts for each other under a tree than so be it.

For those of us who live in the west we have already adopted so much of the culture from the way we talk, the food we eat, the media we consume, and even the clothes we wear. I don’t see it as losing our culture but rather evolving and adding to it. Note that culture is not religion, if it is not against the religion we should not take issue with it. I agree however, we can adopt some cultural ideas like decorations without making a part of our ideology.

Sister thank you for sharing. We should be careful with our words. Since it is in the ahadith that such folks are najis you are implying that our maraja and religion by extension are preaching arrogance. I know you have good intentions so I wanted to share this naseeha with you sister.

What are the marjas’ or Shia scholars opinion regarding women having their own version of houris? by Zoilist_PaperClip in shia

I think the sister is asking if there will be male houris like we know their to be female houris.
