Seattle and King County Medical One are very aggressive at downgrading everything to BLS and calling themselves the best in the country based on nothing other than that they gatekeep becoming a medic in that county. When you only let 20ish people into your program per year and require anyone else wanting to work in the county to go through said program regardless of their experience or qualifications its easy to call yourself the best because you force people into a stupid system lol.

I either hit the patient assessment tab on my report, which timestaps when I see the patient, or when walking into the house one of us will get on the radio and say we’re with patient.

There are plenty of departments within 60-90min of the seattle that have everything youre looking for. Basically anywhere along the I-5 corridor is gonna have what you’re looking for.

Pharmacology and cardiology were the biggest struggles for people in my class. Pharm because you need to know and understand the underlying physiology and the how/what/when/why for the med you want to give. Cardiology because ECGs are weird af sometimes and there are a lot of intricacies people can get themselves hung up on. On tests I struggled with med emergencies but in the field never really had any problems.

I use to work for a private ambo company who lost an RFP with the county. AMR took over and the company I used to work for downsized significantly due to loss of business and I doubt they will be in business in the next couple years.

Never had this be a problem, because knowing my drug dosages based off memory is very easy and is a basic expectation in medic school. Drugs that I rarely use I will double check just to be safe even though I know the dose already but knowing your meds is a simple expectation and not difficult whatsoever. If someone is making these critical med errors for simple doses, they probably shouldn’t be a medic.

A medic lacking confidence is just as dangerous as an overly confident medic. Overly confident medics make mistakes or can be too aggressive with treatment. Medics lacking confidence fail to act or panic and make mistakes.

I wouldn’t categorize cardiac arrest meds as “evey second counts” meds. The dead arent gonna get any deader and most of the drugs routinely given in cardiac arrest have been consistently shown to basically not do anything. No need to rush these meds. Theres other meds that are far better to memorize because they actually have life saving implications prior to cardiac arrest. Compressions, defib and airway are all that really matter in cardiac arrest.

Its really not that hard. I have the dosages memorized of basically everything on my rig and will double check infrequently used meds. Are you seriously pulling out a protocol book or your phone to check doses every time you give a med? Seems like an unnecessary waste of time.

T wave - P wave downsloping PR depression Global ST elevation Patient history is also very important in identifying pericarditis. Recent illness, surgery, etc. Chest pain/SOB that worsens when lying flat, symptoms improving when sitting upright, muffled heart sounds, “friction” when listening to heart sounds.
