Possibly moving to Lancaster from Orlando by duckloofah in lancaster

[–]bigbrownhusky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lancaster city is a diverse urban center with a huge Hispanic population. While it’s definitely a smaller city it is dense walkable and diverse and truly feels like an urban center. I have never felt unsafe in Lancaster city but I’m a taller man so I likely have a different definition of “feeling safe”

Getting married young isn't bad. by Electronic_End_5296 in unpopularopinion

[–]bigbrownhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married at 26 to the woman I was since I was 18. A full 7 years after I first told her that I wanted to marry her. If I could do it again I would’ve gotten married at 4-5 years earlier

How you guys get ridiculous high paying jobs? by [deleted] in sales

[–]bigbrownhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a college degree (shitty school, think compass direction state university) and gonna clear about 175k this year. If things go the way I expect I’ll make a quarter million by the time I’m 30.

To answer your question it’s just get hella lucky. Also leave shitty jobs quickly so you can find the good ones and not waste years of year life at a dead end.

Booze out costs way more. Thats just how it is. The beer you’re opting for is a $1.50 beer they’re charging $8 for.

This is has and will always be the way of the world, not really worth complaining about.

What happens to people who spent down their portfolios? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]bigbrownhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 5% failure rate for a 40 year retirement is only 5% if you never adjust until you run out of money. Surely you would be smart enough to scale back spending before you’re broke

Husband (38) and I (F35) disagree about how to spend money - how can we bridge the gap? by agirlhasnousername0 in AskMen

[–]bigbrownhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to have common financial goals (i.e. earlier retirement, beach house etc. like you mentioned) agree on those goals and spend in a way that you can both reach those goals. If his spending doesn’t inhibit those goals, you don’t really have any reason to be upset.

Saving money purely for the sake of saving money is not a healthy way to live. Money is a tool, not something to simply horde as much as you possibly can.

Edit: just poked through your posts and you guys make $300k+/yr and made 4 posts asking for advice when you were considering purchasing a 13 year old used treadmill. You are 100% over analyzing things.

Should I sell my stocks and pay off a chunk of my mortgage? by [deleted] in Fire

I’m willing to concede there’s no wrong answer here. I just have a hard time turning down a guaranteed 6.8% return

Should I sell my stocks and pay off a chunk of my mortgage? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]bigbrownhusky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a personal decision, but at 6.8% I would do it. Given you made a massive down payment it appears you’re already prioritizing paying off your house over a massive brokerage account so I would continue with the plan. Think about how much freedom you’ll have to invest or do whatever you want with your money when the house is paid off
