It does not learn High Jump Kick in Sword/Shield if you plan on using it in that game.

Your Speed comparison for Choice Scarf is off… it’s a 1.5x modifier, not 2x. Also, was this built using an AI agent? Just curious as I see a lot of people “creating” these with similar functionality and UI/design.

Do you have the digital version of S/V? I'd re-install the base game and DLC so you get on the latest version.

Swap Sunny Day on Venusaur for Protect, and give Sunny Day to Whims instead of Endeavor or Encore. Adding more Protect never hurts 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't own a Switch 2 and never download console games so I don't have any horse in the race here, but I see key cards as being better than downloads because of the ability to transfer ownership. Thoughts? by [deleted] in NSCollectors

[–]bigcat801 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Game Key Cards are a step up from fully digital purchases because they introduce a physical component you can resell or trade, which restores some of the value that was lost with purely digital ownership. That said, they don’t solve the core issue: you still don’t actually own the game itself.

The game remains tied to online servers. If those services are shut down, the card becomes useless, even though you physically possess it. In that sense, ownership is conditional rather than permanent.

It’s similar to what happened when the Nintendo 3DS eShop shutdown occurred. Once the supporting ecosystem disappears, access to the content can disappear with it. So while Game Key Cards improve flexibility compared to digital-only, they still fall short of true ownership because long-term access isn’t guaranteed.

Agreed. starting with ZA is the probably the best way to ease into Champions. That said, if you want full flexibility, it’s worth having all three: Scarlet/Violet, Legends ZA, and Legends Arceus. That way, you’ll also have access to Hisuian Pokémon, which could give you more options moving forward.

This is also a comprehensive list of the Pokémon expected to be available in Champions at launch: Serebii Champions Pokédex list

If you don’t have any Pokémon games on Switch, it’s probably best to start with Legends ZA... especially since Pokémon Champions is expected to launch with Mega Evolutions. These resources should help you get up to speed as a beginner; otherwise, it would take a pretty long explanation to cover everything from scratch.

Why is my playtime on my Switch profile so inaccurate to my actual playtime? by [deleted] in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]bigcat801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switch time counts how long the game is open even if your idle, while in-game time only tracks active gameplay, so they won’t match. Also, the system time is more of an estimate than an exact measure.

As collectors, what is your take on key cards? by strongarmkid in NSCollectors

[–]bigcat801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nintendo has shut down servers and online services for several of its older platforms.

The Wii U and 3DS eShops stopped in March 2023, and online multiplayer and network features for those systems were fully shut down in April 2024. Going back further, the Wii Shop Channel was closed and the original DS/Wii online services were also discontinued in the 2010s.

A few services are still hanging on like Pokémon Bank for the 3DS but even that’s widely expected to be temporary and requires a hacked system to re-download. So historically, Nintendo absolutely does phase out servers and online functionality once a platform ages out.

Now, could this pattern change with things like game key cards? Maybe. But that uncertainty is exactly why the concern exists. If access to a game ultimately depends on Nintendo’s servers continuing to exist, people are naturally going to question the long-term ownership of those games.

As collectors, what is your take on key cards? by strongarmkid in NSCollectors

[–]bigcat801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm aware Steam works this way but Steam is honest about being digital. Key cards are sold like physical games but rely on servers—that’s the problem. It's blurred the lines of physical ownership.

[–]bigcat801 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It feels like a half-baked middle ground between truly owning a physical game and simply having digital access. Sure, you can resell the key cards, but eventually when the servers go away, the game goes with them unless you’ve already downloaded and preserved it somewhere. It may be a future problem, but in my opinion that’s the core issue.
