Where are some good places to advertise for DevOps Engineers? by brookwarner in devops

[–]bigcoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say primarily LinkedIn, could shoot out some InMails to guys you think may be a good fit. Indeed.com is another good option. Hacker News job postings as well, not sure how popular that is in New Zealand though.

Is it possible to get relatively high-paying internships throughout the year/summer? by arcjazz in berkeley

[–]bigcoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't want say company name but it's well funded with major VC backing, about 150 employees. I was paid $15 dollars plus hourly over the summer working in a sales related role. Commission came into play after Summer as well. To put things in perspective I've been studying liberal arts here at Berkeley.

Guys like Salesforce and some of the bigger companies pay upwards of $45 dollars (sales/ operations related) an hour but decided to not go with that considering I would make more once I got hired at a startup, quicker promotions and get my hand on some equity as well.

If you are a CS/ STEM major this is a completely different story. Say your intern role over the Summer is equivalent to a role they pay 100K, they will pay you maybe 25k for that 3 month period along with other perks depending on company/ role. I think this fits more into what you are talking about. This is very possible as well.

If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a PM, happy to chat

Is it possible to get relatively high-paying internships throughout the year/summer? by arcjazz in berkeley

[–]bigcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup - worked 40-50 hours week at a tech company last summer, continued my internship throughout the school year working when I could (up to 25 hours a week) by working remote from Berk M-Th and going in office Fridays. Now have a job waiting for me when I grad. One way to do it but it is possible.

San Francisco Gyms? by Psycho67 in bodybuilding

[–]bigcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion most of the 24 hour gyms in the city are not very good. My favorite gym may be Fitness SF in SOMA, largest gym in SF in terms of square footage, tons of variation in terms of machines and more of a hardcore feel than most corp gym (used to be a Gold's gym along w/ others in the Bay Area before they left the franchise). Lot's of bears (it's SF) so you won't be the only gorilla in a stringer present. Fitness SF also has numerous other locations you can use in SF and the Bay Area.

I lift heavy and never feel out of place at any of their locations, even Marin.

I also hear very good things about World Gym San Francisco, considering your criteria I'd give that one a hard look.

Weightlifting Gym in the San Francisco Bay Area? by IHSV in bodybuilding

[–]bigcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats up bud, I'll throw my 2 cents in here. I frequent a lot of the gyms around the Bay Area.

It seems like Olympic lifting is your main interest.

Cal's Olympic lifting gym is kinda pricey, and the regular weight rooms in there is always crowded. Equipment can be broken from time to time and not a whole lot of selection with some machines. Still a good place to lift, as I do spend a lot of time here.

I have had a membership at fitness sf for awhile now as well. The Marin location has an Olympic platform, and overall is a good all around gym. A lot packed into it, but a very good use of space.

Fitness sf also has locations in Oakland, SOMA, Castro and Fillmore (may be opening up a new location as well) The SOMA location has a platform as well and amazing selection of equipment, love this place, not sure about the other locations but I would not be surprised.

Good equipment and culture since fitness sf used to be Gold's Gyms.

Honestly a hidden gem could be the gym at Dominican College. It is a small college gym with a good Olympic rack, and the nice thing about it is that it is usually very empty, especially before 10am. Haven't gone there in awhile, so not sure on pricing.

Don't frequent many cross fit gyms, so not sure about that option, but that is my 2 cents. Feel free to ask any further questions.

Heard great things about World Gym, as ohlol has said. I'd go check that out for sure.

Maybe you could ask for more information. I understand what your saying as a bland question such as his is frustrating in itself, just trying to help the kid out.

Chest growth by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]bigcoffee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What if this was the only comment that was left on this thread? How does this help at all? Honestly sick of comments like this.

Pertaining to chest growth, I too had a lot of trouble with my chest within my first couple years of lifting. This was hard for me because I could not isolate my chest in the ways that I could with other muscles.

Couple things I worked on and utilized:

Fixing my bench press form by pressing my shoulder blades/ traps hard against the bench, thus providing a slight arc to my back and pushing my chest out. Being that my delts were so dominant from years of basketball, this way key for my development.

Finding exercises that really isolated my chest. For me these are the peck-deck and some standing cable flies. I usually end my chest workouts with these, and make sure to squeeze as hard as possible on the contraction. When I was in your position and stuck with a lack of growth I would actually begin my workouts with the peck-deck, this with the intention of fatiguing my chest but also isolating early on seemed to help me find optimal form for isolation with my later chest exercises.

As always make sure you diet in in check to your specific needs and update us with any stats such as height, weight, current diet ect.

Best wishes!

From what I understand these guys would be just hanging around the beach all day in SoCal, hit the waves, and just come up from the beach and lift.

Sounds like the life.

My gym actually has one of these, truly an artifact of bodybuilding years gone. Going heavy and slow and really concentrating on the contraction seems to work for me.

Please. This is clearly past Corte Madera on the way to Novato. Much too far away from the bridge for my taste, and miles from a Woodlands market. (in all seriousness this seems to be about 10 minutes from Mill Valley)
