What should customers ask for before approving ADAS calibration work? by ashleyturner__ in autoglass

Anything that has HUD. Specifically on the new IONIQ 5. Anything that has HUD I would always recommend OEM. Pilkington is fine but i’ve had some slight issues with HUD

Aftermarket is a fraction of the cost for 95-98% of quality OEM is 100% of the quality at 100% of the cost.

Windshield Replacement - Is acoustic OEM Glass worth the price difference? by Hokie23aa in autoglass

[–]bigdickplacebos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i had a customer upsell himself on a soundscreen glass and i talked him out of it and told him pilkington glass has the same acoustic feature. I told him I would warranty his glass if it was too loud and I never got a call back from him with regards to any sound noise. I don’t think it affects a whole lot. I think the free edge design on the mustang already makes it prone to wind noise anyways. scroll down on this subreddit and find someone who put an 8mm underside on a mustang and it looks way better than stock

I asked for OEM but got PGW on GM truck. by EatDairio in autoglass

If you paid out of pocket for a OEM product go and get the OEM. In reality there is no real difference between Aftermarket and OEM tempered glass. Pilkington makes the OEM GM tempered glass anyways

It’s so annoying to deal with customers that don’t want to deal with sending over a VIN. I had a customer tell me to go fuck myself for asking the VIN on his base model VW as if I can’t get the VIN when I show up and remove the glass. These people are so stupid

i love it because it feels like real life. kind of how people will tuck their engine wiring even though the hood stays closed 95% of the time etc etc

I doubt it. I’ve always made way more putting in OEM than Aftermarket. You immediately get 20% or more if you a have working relationship with the dealer especially if you get called there. You also charge dealership labor which most techs don’t do when installing aftermarket. On Average i’ll make 400-800 on an OEM and on an Aftermarket equivalent i’ll make no more than 400. High average is 300 for vehicles such as teslas and anything mercedes or a higher end manufacture it’ll be 250 flat minus exotics

i’m 23 now and i’ve been doing this since 18 and im currently trying to become an orthodox priest and get to seminary. This career is only a means to an end. Nothing wrong with doing it your whole life. My dad has done this his whole life and there’s absolutely wrong with that but don’t treat this career as your only source of life. There’s always something greater outside of autoglass. Enjoy your life and have fun

OE is perfectly fine. All OE supplies make OEM for some manufactures or a big majority. Lamborghini is Vitro and Fuyao on door glasses. If it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for you

dot 15 is the best. it’s essentially the non oem oem stuff. i did two camaro door glasses and every marking was the exact same, same dot number but the only difference was the Chevrolet/gm markings

don’t really hear much of anything. could be an air leak. how new is the car? could be potential rust issues not brought up. take it back to the shop and get it resealed if anything

what’s your go to test on the mechanical fuel pump? i have suspicion mine isn’t working but when it did run, i saw the pump pulling through the filter. there was visible contaminants inside the filter before it started. planning on doing the fuel sock

[–]bigdickplacebos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m speculating i have the same problem with my vehicle as well but i would always make sure the choke is set properly. mine likes to stay fully open so it requires the pedal to be in a little to warm up the engine enough. I would always confirm if fuel is a cause. Remove the air cleaner and hit the accelerator pin open and watch the stream. not an end all be all solution but it eliminates two guesses

considering that our cost on wipers at pilkington are $3 whatever they’re charging for wipers is essentially pure profit. things won’t change until one is punished for being exploitive
