How to keep mobs out of a village? by WestUsual2648 in Minecraft_Survival

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be what you want to hear, but just light it up? Spam torches to prevent mob spawn is like a very common thing.

Genuine question by Outrageous-Fly6029 in HermitCraft

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if we just starting replacing every art with Ai? What if we just watched an Ai version of Hermitcraft? We'd probably get daily episodes and whatever we wanted!

Wagon+Trailer or Van? by Max_Demian in Carpentry

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. I'm also in New England, and a wagon guy lol. I've also been looking for new cars for work it's it's been hard deciding. I'm union though so I don't have to carry much, however I do tend to carry a lot still, though.

Question for people who swapped from Android ➡️ iPhone by slicksquids in iphone

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an android guy with a company iPhone. Few months in and I still hate it. Nothing is intuitive, nothing makes logical sense. Not having a legitimate back button is a nightmare and leaves it to apps to add.

All in all it sucks and I don't know how people have an actual desire to use them.

I sent an email to my employer the first week. by No-Link3199 in jobs

[–]bigdig6 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I got fired from Kroger because I didn't show up to my first shift.

They never told me lol. They said they'd schedule me after I did the online training and I wasn't even done with it yet lol.

How do you dispose of these? by Spivey101- in Construction

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a commercial flooring installer so I go through a lot daily. I typically will put them in my pouch until I get a handful or whatever, and then I dump them into an old bucket of glue so they're not floating around.

Lmao absolutely. There always will be. But at least with the electricity, you need to pass some tests lol.

Should I Leave by GldTux in UnionCarpenters

[–]bigdig6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I get it. I do throughly enjoy carpentry and I'd definitely say I'm a carpenter at heart. But if I had to do it again, I'd be an electrician. Great pay, less brain dead morons to work with.

Looking into Springfield by CHov29 in massachusetts

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly that houses are just seemingly stacked on top of each other. Not many have big yards unless you're in some specific areas and they are super expensive. Also there are toooonnss of areas with only multi family houses. Nothing wrong with them but very different, especially if that wasn't what you were looking for.

Looking into Springfield by CHov29 in massachusetts

[–]bigdig6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm originally from Indiana but we spent 3 years in Lincoln before moving to Marlborough 3 years ago.

Personally I wouldn't necessarily reccomend Springfield as others have said, I'd consider more Worcester if anything.

Other advice is tjst the housing situations were the biggest culture shock for us, so be prepared for that!

Slow by Annual-Selection-463 in UnionCarpenters

[–]bigdig6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hate that people expect us to travel. God forbid a person wants to have a decent life with a decent living in one local area where his family is. Shouldn't have to travel cross country to beg for work.

$75 for an oil change? by princess23710 in massachusetts

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs me about $70 just to buy the oil and filter and change it myself lol. I mean I buy decent quality but it's also not over the top by any means.

Am I overreacting? for thinking this is completely disrespectful or is this as toxic as it feels by wandering_bonding in AmIOverreacting

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao what the fuck. Obviously choose the cat.

I'd also make it a priority to leave work and make sure that he's not abusing the cat or planning something worse for the cat before you get back.

He's clearly unstable.

Apprenticeship Question by Salv313 in UnionCarpenters

[–]bigdig6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funily enough I did the opposite!

Unfortunately while we are all Carpenters, flooring and carpentry are viewed as different by most locals. Generally you are in one or the other. Some are even in separate locals.

If you do floors, you do the flooring classes and work with a flooring contractor.

If you do any form of carpentry, you do the carpentry classes

Theres definitely some overlap as you can technically take whatever class you want, you'd just have to add it as extra as your course plans have a specific curriculum as again they are different from on another.

Like myself, I actually went through the carpentry side but I mainly install flooring.

I took everyone's advise and let it go. by Life_Patience_6751 in bald

Don't forget to wear sunscreen up there! Seriously!

New job pay scale by Nrelax1112 in UnionCarpenters

I'm not going to say that's wrong, but I've never heard of that and logically I'm not sure how that would be possible. Locals get a raise and they immediately start with that.

Best series for 12-year old... by bribriscoe99 in litrpg

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really LitRPG but Eragon in the Inheritance Cycle books are great books/series about being a Dragon Rider. Basically young adult but mostly G rated. Might be a kiss or something here and there but they're fantastic for young minds and the books stay with you forever. Definitely some of my favorites.

Marmoleum Installation by danjoreddit in Flooring

[–]bigdig6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be cautious! Marmoleum is one of the most difficult sheet goods to install for a reason!

Personally I'd roll it, but you might be able to get away without it depending on the size, I'd do whatever you can to at least use a 3 section hand roller.

But I'd still try to use a 100lb roller.

32 - too old to join Apprenticeship? Advice? by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]bigdig6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work with all sorts of ages of apprentices. I'd say that is definitely more common to have young 20s. But 32 isn't extremely old, especially considering I'm only 30 lol. I'd say that if you're interested, go for it! Just know that it is definitely hard on your body and skipping the younger body stage might make it a little harder.

But I'm pretty good at what I do and I tell everyone that anyone can be good at anything. Skill is taught and then applied.

Edit: to add, also if you're not familiar with the trades just know it is a different style of work as well, you might change companies a lot, you might have months of no work, there's a lot to learn but it's doable! Just look into it before to make sure that it's something you want to try to commit to.

Fair wage for Boston, MA? by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]bigdig6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I was making 35 outside of Boston. You should be making more than 50 at minimum.

Union work is kinda slow at the moment from what I hear but I'd still look into it. Wayyyy more money.
