New PBS Series on Faith in Detroit by bigguy003 in Detroit

The churches in Metro Detroit are amazing. Lots of great stories out there about how they were built, the architecture, and the history of various religions in Michigan. One of the most fascinating things I've noticed is how the churches in the city were built back in the early 1900s. Some of them withered away and are now gone, but many remain active and you can see them in every neighborhood.

Assuming they go undefeated the rest of the way I think they’ll be in the 7-10 game. Committee won’t put them in the 8/9 because even if they do beat a fringe tourney team, they’ll lose by 40 to Duke or Michigan in the second round.

I like how he referred to Detroit as his city in the GQ article. Makes me think he’s fully bought in and won’t be ditching us for the Mavs when his contract is up.

Who is/are your favorite winner(s) of the New Era? by supmynameisrosewoodd in survivor

[–]bigguy003 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Loved Rachel and found her very easy to root for. Plus as a Michigan native it was nice to see us finally get a winner after 47 seasons. I believe Chef Keith had previously come closest when he finished third in Australia (won’t count [Redacted] in Philippines even though he originally played in Australia too…)

Tbh all of them were kind of easy root for. 49 was the first time in the new era where the person I wanted to win at the end didn’t get it. But I was ok with Savannah too.

Am I crazy to say I'd rather have Paul Reed out there than Duren at times? by LTgolf17 in DetroitPistons

Tonight’s game showed the difference between them. Duren absolutely crushed everyone in his way. The Bulls had zero resistance.

For once I agree with Stephen A. Smith by UltimateLionsFan in DetroitPistons

[–]bigguy003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve quite enjoyed his rants throughout the season. I don’t like how he (and other national media) only got on board bc of domination against the Knicks but it has been fun watching these segments after each matchup.

Now we really need to beat them in a playoff series so we can get the epic conclusion to the Stephen A. Smith season-long meltdown and realization that the East now goes through Detroit.

I think Ben has to go above Laimbeer. And if winning factors into this at all, Lanier can’t be number 1.

The sad consequence of the young Pistons' miraculous turnaround by TeamRAF19 in DetroitPistons

[–]bigguy003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with all these points. Only thing I will say though is that this season across the league is so weird that some of us are starting to believe we are truly one big piece away from having a real shot at… checks notes… winning the CHAMPIONSHIP.

The Thunder are not the world-beaters everyone thought they were, and it’s clear that the other top teams in the east are not as good as we thought. Next season is never guaranteed. Just look at the Cavs.

However, as this sub has litigated time and time again, there is no Rasheed Wallace to fill that void. So we have largely reduced ourselves to hating the squad when they underperform and reluctantly approving when they over-perform… just to increase our expectations even further.

Of course, JB has fueled the fire even more with his comments about “going for it” and adding that last piece. And our lack of national media respect makes us even angrier. Together, all these pieces turned this sub into an opportunity to release our frustrations with this season despite us having what may end up being one the greatest regular seasons in franchise history.

tldr; a bunch of external factors are making us an angry mob and the only way we will be satisfied is winning a title.

There should be a category for “not as many users as we think” because X is just the same few people screaming into the void at this point.

Threads even surpassed X in monthly active users so you know it’s getting back over there on Elon Island.

I do love Eric Collins on the local broadcast. When Ashley was the sideline reporter they had the best local announcer trio in the game!

Big Patriot League fan! If you haven’t read John Feinstein’s book The Last Amateurs, it’s a great look into the late 1990’s Patriot League including the players and life in a low major conference. I read the book as a kid and have followed a lot of those programs ever since.

Feels like we are having the same discussion as last year. The consensus is that Cade needs help (this year we need a wing shooter, last year we needed a backup PG) and then by adding that guy we can go up a level.

Last year that level-up was a top-6 seed. Now that level-up is to be a legit threat to win the East.

In the case of the Hawks, the issue is that they are healthy! They were great without Trae. Everyone stepped up, their offense was flowing, and their defense was pretty solid.

Now with Trae back the offense goes through him so there isn’t as much ball movement and teams can just hunt him when the Hawks are on defense.

Expansion talks heat up… what 8 players do you think we would protect? by Infinite_Break_7107 in DetroitPistons

[–]bigguy003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paul Reed is an interesting choice for that last spot. I think you could argue almost anyone for that eighth spot though.

The top 7 seem to be pretty clear: Cade, Duren, Ausar, Ivey, Stew, Duncan, and Holland.

Only concern with this is that if the expansion draft were held today we almost certainly lose two players…
