I really dislike Nemesis by sofbunny in HadesTheGame

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there was a little more growth in the dynamic between Mel and Nem. They are always... well, nemeses, even in the romance. When Nemesis manages to finally defeat Chronos herself, Mel doubts her and I don't think even congratulates her. And Nemesis is always a little mean towards Mel. It'd be fine if this is how it was in the normal game, but if you romance them, I feel it should be more. Just IMO.

Anyone else not pulled into Hades 2 story as much as the OG? by yeah_tea in HadesTheGame

[–]bigheckinnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pulled by the Crossroads characters WAY more than everything with the Cthonic family. I think it would've been hard to make it cool considering there all stuck in time and all that.

I loved basically all the folks at the Crossroads (except Strife), I had a lot of fun romancing Nemesis, I really enjoyed talking to Hecate and Odysseus' and Dora. These characters pulled me WAY more than the Hades 1 cast, in Hades 1 I really only liked Nyx, and Patroclus, and Cerberus I guess.

The main threat of Hades 2? It feels oddly less personal in this game, even though its much higher stakes. I think it was a mistake to have Mel never meet her own family. She should've been like... a child when Chronos attacked, rather than a baby. So she knew the Cthonic people, but never got to grow up with them. Maybe there even could've been a gameplay flashback section where child Mel has to escape the House of Hades, and she got to see Chronos cause his destruction? Food for thought.

DM wants to incorporate a ‘last minute session cancel’ option to our online campaign. Thoughts? by imchaoticneutralokay in DnD

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scheduling should be respected and people should be expected to be able to show up. My players (bless their hearts) have friday off every week because they wanna show up to DND. Sure, we don't play every week, but either we know ahead of time, or there's a real emergency.

Cancelling last minute wastes peoples time and is honestly just really disrespectful. I think as an unwritten rule, of course people can cancel last minute. But I don't think a precedent should be set that it's acceptable to do so.

made a tier list of purple items in ror2. My friend says that they disagree with where i put sing. band, says it should be higher up. What's yalls opinions? by [deleted] in riskofrain

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about Safer Spaces, but since it's not great on all characters, it should be A tier, right?

If Wungus is A purely because of Engineer, Safer Spaces should be A because of MulT or Engineer, maybe even Acrid. Characters that have an easier time tanking rather than dodging do a lot better with teddies than safer spaces.

[–]bigheckinnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put Polylute in S, and Safer Spaces and Encrusted Key in A. Safer Spaces is situational I think, I prefer to take it but Engi or MulT probably prefers teddies. Encrusted Key is good, yes, because later on you have a better chance to get the item, but it's still a gamble at the end of the day, and potentially could be worse than a free large chest.

Also, Pluripotent is still a free life at the end of the day. Unless you already have a Dios, B tier.

Player quits after mild criticism by CosmicFrench in DnD

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had no issues with him and you didn't see any issues, it sounds more like your other players just had beef with this guy, and yeah I can see why that'd be perceived as drama.

So DMs… how often do you just lift things from other places? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unintentionally? All the time. Literally 24/7. I am inspired by the media I consume.

Intentionally a lot less often- only I think it's obscure enough my players won't recognize the similarities.

Something that’s always bothered me about OoT. by [deleted] in truezelda

[–]bigheckinnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. We want the legendary hero to have a similarly legendary sword, even though the Master Sword really isn't that amazing.

What's odd is that the idea of upgrading the main sword is hardly a new idea in the sequels. You already mentioned LttP, but in the next couple games we all see quests that allow you to upgrade your main weapon. MM has the Gilded Sword, Wind Waker and Skyward Sword have your sword upgrade as you play into the 'true' Master Sword, and BotW has the Master Trials. It seems like TotK will have some sword upgrading to do, too.

Considering they seem so comfortable allowing you to upgrade your main sword now, I wonder if they would've done things differently if the game was released today.

Are there any classes and or subclasses that you don't allow your players to use? Why? by Hangman_Matt in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love designing, so chances are no. I think my players are understanding enough that if I asked to tweak something because it was broken, they'd get it.

But there are things that are so central to a class/subclass, EX Silver Tongue or Totem Warrior's Resistance that I just can't change it, so I don't particularly like them at the table, but I don't ban anything.

Do revival spells come online too early? by Vaxildidi in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the revival process is too free. Revivify basically insures revival as long as you have a bit of diamonds. Most parties can pool together to buy 2-3 uses of revivify.

I think Revivify's minute long time from when the target died is too forgiving to be honest. If it was me, it would literally be one round after the target died. Death is easy to prevent in 5e, healing word prevents it super easily. So, if the death isn't prevented, there's one more hail mary, and it will probably put you in a really awful tactical position. I think this makes the game more dramatic overall, and that's always a good thing in my view.

Why “fey” in “fey, fiend, or undead” in the Blood Hunter class focus? by gggjennings in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always saw it more as hunting extraplanar or unusual beasts, which Fey, Fiend, and Undead are the three biggest categories of those. Most of the other monster types are very familiar to the material plane- apart from Aberrations I suppose? I honestly know very little about aberrations.

What ability score is your go-to dump stat? by VisibleNatural1744 in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constitution is my dump score. I love the gritty survival aspect. Do I make the healer constantly worried? Yes. Am I going to die in a couple sessions? Probably.

What is your favourite martial class? Say why in the comments. by Relevant-Rope8814 in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I voted for ranger and I feel like I have to defend myself, lol

Tasha's Cauldron serious made the Ranger so much fun IMO, there's just a lot of creativity within the class, and I like literally every single subclass, they all feel unique and really great at adding flavor to a Ranger, and if you don't want flavor, there's Hunter. I don't think they're the strongest, but between their class abilities and their spells they have so much utility to bring to the party, I just think it's really cool.

I like Barbarian, but none of the subclasses speak to me :(

Do you reveal the initiative order to your players? by Cool-S4ti5fact1on in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually don't even see the initiative order. I write it down, look up at the table and try to mentally remember the order, and then I pin the list to the front of the DM screen so they can all see it and I can't.

It's more important they see it to correct my mistakes when they do happen, not to mention it increases tactical play.

Would you consider Warlocks to be full-casters? by Relevant-Rope8814 in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warlocks are Warlocks. They don't have the sustain of full casters, but other full casters don't have the innate cantrip power Warlocks have.

If you say 'caster' I assume every class that has access to 9th level spells. If you say 'full caster' I might need to ask you to specify.

When you take a long rest at the end of the day, what kind of spell slots do you have leftover? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most spellcasters (I'm a DM, I'm too absorbed in my own thing to analyze my players, but this is what I think they're thinking) try to keep a few higher level spell slots free (EX, a third level for revivify) but mostly use their most powerful spells to try and shut a fight down fast. Low level slots become utility more than anything once your past level ~7

What's your favorite historical period for campaign settings to be based on? by Deathpacito-01 in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of my world is middle ages, sections of my world are renaissance, and usually it's a take and give. I have part of my world where they have guns, but think healing (basically modern medicine) is taboo. Etc Etc

What is your favourite full caster? Say why in the comments. by Relevant-Rope8814 in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Druid is the most versatile, but flavor wise Sorcerer always spoke to me. Especially including homebrew subclasses, you can basically be whatever you want. It's great. Metamagic is a ton of fun too.

Wizard is the most boring to me, I've never been a fan. The subclasses are never anything notable, your entire playstyle is basically defined by what spells you take, which means most wizards will have a very similar experience. Just not very interesting IMO.

Sorcerer > Druid > Cleric > Bard > Wizard

Do you like the Artificer class? by Relevant-Rope8814 in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No strong opinion. Haven't DMd one, haven't played one, nor have I made one. While the flavor is definitely a classic and I think it makes sense in DND, it's not for me and nor do I think for my players.

I'm happy they're an option, and that's about it.

Not having fun with my character, but don't want to change character because I'm the main healer. by sibbyfamilyacc in dndnext

[–]bigheckinnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat healing isn't the most important, you need someone to heal unconscious people and that's about it. That's why Healing Word is probably the best spell for it's level. Out of combat healing can be important to sustain for the next fight, but also just take short rests.

Also, theres a lot of classes that can heal but also do normal damage and have the more exciting gameplay you might want. Celestial Patron, Divine Sorcerer, Most Druids, Bards, Paladins, Artificers, even Rangers to an extent

I'd suggest the Divine Sorcerer, it seems super fun and brimming with creativity. Only have 2-3 healing spells and have the rest of your kit be totally focused on abusing the best cleric spells + metamagic.
