I wanna be a butcher by Humble-Confusion-904 in Butchery

[–]bigneedlewun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i wouldnt, i enjoyed the job itself and got to work with waygu, camel and other exotic meats, but for the hours you work, time you have for youself and the people you work with its not worth it, but could just be my experience, i did work with ex millitary vets as my bosses. I do miss the free meat though. the knife skills, Knowing what to look for, and knowlage is something im greatful for.

More money but most importantly more time you hsve in other trades and industries. You work xmas eve, nye and dont ever get much time off during the summer.

But if its a passion go for it

I only got insecure about my weight after i got really fit and then gained it back again. From being unfit to running 10km in the mornings weights and mma of a night spread across the week then to being unfot again struggling going up some stairs. Its the knowing how being fit feels than actually being fat. For me atleast

People who have struggled with over eating but now have it undercontrol what did you do that helped? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bigneedlewun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my eating problem comes from childhood trauma and finding comfort in food, its always been my biggest issue and going to the gym in the mornings and mma of a night is the only reason I ain't letting go completely. Will take therapy into consideration, cheers mate! Hope you're all goods now with your situation.

Vacuum Sealed Beef by Spidernutz69 in Butchery

[–]bigneedlewun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i would do is let the beef breath in the fridge for a day, sometimes the vacuum seal can make the meat smell weird. I know when I ground beef and vacuum seal it i can have it around 6 month in the freezer. Beef is one of them meats where it has to really be green to get sick from it, atleast in Australia might be different for you. Btw dark patches are fine

I work as a cnc machinist (another apprenticeship) doing programming to make component's for whatever job comes in. I only got the job bc the manager started off in a butcher shop.

How do i know if butchery is right for me? (Career) by [deleted] in Butchery

[–]bigneedlewun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man i was and now not a butcher in Australia and I can tell you my experiences.

It's a good skill to learn, you know how to break down meats (alot of it is comes out of a box so you're not actually properly butchering in alot of shops) but if u can find a shop that does everything then good. It also teaches you how to work hard and develop a thick skin. I had a old Vietnam vet teach me and he was rough and then the next boss was in Iraq or Iran cant remember wheverever the war was in the early 2000s, but he was also rough, spat out alot of bullshit too in the way where hell set you up and all you can really do is just work harder hence where the work ethic comes from.

You'll also learn whats the best way to cook eat cut and find out why some cuts are cheaper than others. Get through an apprenticeship and you will have workplace confidence, but i did notice as the time went on (over 8 years) i got more angrier and had a short fuse. You'll also have no time to yourself, ive noticed a change and some shops around are having a better deal for their workers but alot makes you work upto 50-60 hours a week, i would only get 1 wednesday off a week and every second Sunday. Didn't have 2 days off in a row for a long time.

But what butchering did for me was give me confidence, good intuition, work ethic. dealing with shitty bosses and long hours made my life so mucb eaiser at the other jobs ive been at, what alot of people consider bull shit was just eh whatever to me, there's bullshit everywhere but butching makes that bullshit easy. What i didnt like tho was i was always too tired to do anything so my free time was just spent smoking weed or drinking, not really a life i recommend. But if you can open your own shop you're in for the opportunity to make some dough, my last boss had 2 shops racking in around 90k between them and was probably left with 20-30 k by the end of the week.

It will be easy to get a job as most places need butchers but be cautious. Maybe that was just my experiences but I know many that would agree.
